Very difficult to obtain a work visa here, and the chances of getting a contract is pretty slim.

Suggest you read the info on this website.

Good luck…however, I don’t think they will allow you to make an appointment over the phone. CAJA insists you go in person, to try to accomplish many things…

Why not ask your lawyer to try to make another appointment when you have more time? Or fly in earlier. He or his representative are the ones who should be assisting you. Or contact ARCR as I suggested.
The info with the phone numbers, is where you would try to set up your appointment.

Don’t know anything about a 30 day rule, but to apply for a CR license, you are required to have your cedula in hand, your home DL and the time stamped in your passport, is now out of date, as in no longer valid.
To re-set your home license without a cedula, you must cross the border and exit CR.

I can’t find any specif dates for the CCSS offices to re-open after the New Year.
I suggest you contact & join ARCR who will, at a cost of course, take you a CCSS office and assist you to get signed up.
It has been now said, that CAJA is no longer taking your expenses into consideration to determine your monthly fee, but asking that you pay 10-13% of your declared Pensionado or Rentista deposit.

Here is a list of phone numbers of many CCSS offices, so if you can speak Spanish or have someone to assist you, you could contact the office for information regarding appointments

This information is posted on this website Costa Rica Law and offers by far the best and most up-to-date information regarding Residency in Costa Rica, in my opinion:lol:

I would agree that it will take more than one day…
What is the date of your appointment? Due to the holidays and possibly the location, the CCSS offices may be ‘backed up’ with appointments.

Dealing with both a CCSS ofice and migracion in early January could be a nightmare…
Have you asked your lawyer for this information? Since you possibly paying a lawyer to assist in gaining residency, he/she should be willing to help.

Read the info on this website, which explains that you have to set up an appointment for an appointment to apply…
The above link actually relates to an expat with a Costa Rica family and not at a Pensionado or Rentista so don’t expect your interview to have the same results.

You may be permitted to sign up in any CCSS office although you can only use the facilities and doctor in the area you are assigned too and where you intend to live in,(which will be added to info on your CAJA carnet) unless you are in an emergency situation when ‘out of this area’.

All three original owners plus the three sons will have to be present in CR to be added to the proposed corporation, although not necessary to be here at the same time.
This will require specific and ongoing ‘book keeping’.

Here is a well written and informative article.
So, if your worker and family leaves your employment either voluntary or by your decision, you will be required to pay a hefty price which also takes into consideration the home supplied and any bonuses you have bestowed on them for the past 7 years.
CAJA does/will not touch a work related injury, not to even stop flowing blood, and will send the ‘injured party’ to the nearest INS facility.

This is a new policy that INS now offers, and is meant to be used for ‘multiple’ workers, rather than purchasing a policy for an individual, so although it is expensive, it used to be at least that for each worker.
It is important that you document even the slightest injury for future reference, such a cut finger that only required a bandaid … and of course, this is mandatory by law, as is CAJA. Sometimes, employers will give the funds for voluntario coverage with CAJA, but this is not the proper way to do it legally, but is much cheaper.

”Probably a dumb question but why is boric acid in the spice section”? Answer is, ‘because we are in Costa Rica”!

To get rid of the tiny ants, stick to the boric acid and sugar mix, as it really works, but keep it out of the way from pets.

Contact the Ark Herb Farm and ask if they carry Citronella plants. They tend to be hard to find, and are often just passed between neighbors… and you need quite a few plants to keep those pesky insects away.
Also try these: Ageratum (grows wild here) Marigolds, Catnip, Beebalm, Cleome. Try planting some garlic, too…

New residents that decide to open a business, at the beginning tell us how well things are going, as well they may be, but sooner rather than later, things change and often the business simply ‘disappears…’ for any number of reasons.

I have some friends who have a small vivero in Quepos, who had at least at one time, the miniature species of this vine. Try contacting Alexander or his wife Merle, at 2779-1075 or via email, heliconia95@gmail.com
They often will ship items on the bus, if you live out of the area, but try to go there in person to meet this great couple…and some plants you will never find elsewhere.
