October 22, 2013 at 6:07 pm in reply to: Must a residency applicant have a ticket back to the US at border crossing? #202524costaricafincaParticipantYes, if you go across the Panamanian border but ‘no’
if you head for Nicaragua.
It could take a year or more to receive your cedula, so be prepared to repeat this again…and again…:roll:costaricafincaParticipantBarbara Ann,not all private hospitals will give a 10% discount if you present your Ciudadanos de Oro.
costaricafincaParticipantThere are both large and smaller CAJA hospitals in and around San Jose.
In Grecia, it would be the Hospital San Francisco de Asís de Grecia (CCSS)Grecia is quite a distance from San José, possibly an hour in heavy traffic.
costaricafincaParticipantYou are only entitled to use the CAJA facility in your immediate neighborhood that you are signed up with.
You cannot pick and choose which hospital, clinic or doctor you prefer.
If it was a real emergency, in another district, I would suggest going to the nearest CAJA facility.
It would depend on the staff whether they would provide treatment or not, although I expect they would.
Very important to keep your most recent receipt in your wallet, showing your payments are ‘up to date’.
Only CAJA hospitals are available to CAJA members, at no additional cost.
If you go to one of the private hospitals, you will, more than likely, be asked to pay a portion of the ‘bill’ up front before they will admit you.
If you go to a CAJA hospital, without being a member, they are now requiring the same, unless it is a ‘life and death’ situation. This was reported recently in La Nación.
costaricafincaParticipantAs I said in the later post ”… it sure seems to be much higher that this”
costaricafincaParticipantI do see where you have read this, and don’t know in which ‘hole’ or the lowest possible point they took this altitude reading from, but we have been to Upala many times, and it sure seems to be much higher that this, so I would advise you not rely on all information posted, as to be exact or even close and check for yourself.
costaricafincaParticipantI am not going to address the obvious that these are not correct, 😯 but especially Upala which is in the mountains and definitely not 151ft. (although there is a reference to 180 ft although reported at the ‘airport’) but more like 1,640 ft.
Try again…costaricafincaParticipantCheck this website and follow the link for additional information.
costaricafincaParticipantOf course you’re right, how could I have overlooked all of those wonderful viveros…8)
Thought I would add that we use Vanilla extract to keep those mosquito off of us… Depending on how strong you need it, it can be added to water to spray on, mixed with a body lotion or straight from the bottle.
costaricafincaParticipantSeeds are not easily available here, at least not in the huge numbers that one would see in stores and nurseries in North America. Purchasing them from the one company that offers seeds, often leads to disappointment as they may not germinate…
Suggest once again the Ark Herb Farm where you are may find seeds or at least plants. EPA often offers starter plants. If you are successful, let some of the herbs ‘go to seed’ then replant the seeds for your next crop. Look for Cuban oregano which has larger leaves, and is less attractive to the insects …… although you will likely need to fight off the insects that may devour the herbs, so suggest you plant the herbs in pots not in the ground, but not the lemon grass.
You may have to look around your neighborhood for the lemon grass or ask a friend.costaricafincaParticipantTry the Ark herb farm
October 12, 2013 at 1:06 pm in reply to: What are your experiences of moving bank accounts from U.S. to C.R.? #172928costaricafincaParticipantYou reset your home drivers license by exiting CR when you leave to renew your visa. Once you have a cedula and your visa stamp has expired 🙄 you can apply for a CR DL
costaricafincaParticipantWhat they say and what they do, is two different things.
