i went from s.f.,ca. to costa rica in 2011, with a fluent mexican-american (bi-polar, what a nightmare overall). three problems. twice in vera cruz (went the long way above mexico city to the panamerican hwy and south) pd. $100.00 to the policia to procede.

if yer near the border tell them you want to go to the police station rather than pay, they’ll run from you (literally). we went before google earth, so…no signage and incoherent directions (most rurales have never been more than a few blocks from their homes).

lots of being lost (not major lost, tho). AND, the major problem, crossing the borders. doable, but costly and a MAJOR pain. even with fluent mexican, had to pay “facilitators”.

1 major search in guatemala, with “requests” for some of our stuff (mainly liquor). great time overall, no fear.be adaptable.

i’d do it again. costa rican border very professional and easy. countries between are ugly, dirty, but fascinating. DON’T try “motels” they rent by the hour and are dedicated to assignations (with garages to hide yer car from yer wife
Wat’s the difference between lux— Tax and Property Tax
In Costa Rica , California Property Tax , If you are late is a 10% penalty. Then they sell your House and give you a grocery cart. 😯
Willem
no way! i live in santa rosa, california.don’t pay your tax, they will carry it as a lien for several years(how many i don’t know). i had friend that owed me money and was supposed to pay my tax one year. the next year they sent me a bill for two years with 10% penalty, the unpaid year listed as a lien. no forced sale.p.s. the friend paid up shortly.p.s.s taxes for 2009 were $2,844.00 (property tax)and 8.5% sales tax. and i don’t have a McMansion or acres. of course the level of civic services exceeds costa ricas’ yah pays for what yah gets! taxes pay for jobs, jobs create consumption which creates opportunities for others (as a general rule, seems to me)so pay up or go live on your own island and to hell with everybody else. john dunne had some credible thoughts on that.

congratulations, that’s a hard road. i did a bit with chuzo kotaka(ken-po) in hi. but not enough dedication (discipline). track and softball’s easier for me. i got timed out after o long typing session and lost it all. so… kaiser foundation in s.f. area says”unfavorable smoking history”. after 40+years as a member thru employment. other plans? high costs and highly restricted coverage. pre-existing conditions. well, a 60 year old (let alone career carpenter) seems likely to have pre-existing conditions of some import.not covered. hopefully our health care “reform” will address this issue. yes there are options, but not enough better than nothing to be worth it. and i don’t complain about paying my tax share, because there’d be less projects for me work on if people didn’t have money to spend. current events makes that obvious. hey all i want and ,i believe, most people, is access afordably like every other western. industrialized and some 2nd and 3rd world countries can manage.

clayton that’s a far-fetched prediction based on nothing real. name one (just one, that’s all) country that has universal health care where that’s true. or has been bankrupted for that matter. one thing is true tho, i have no health care coverage because i can’t get it because i used to smoke years ago. and i just got from the stanford senior games with a gold medal and a 7th place finish (20 competitors)which i qualified for with 2 silver medals and 1 bronze in the st. george international senior olympics. i compete in softball, long jump,50 and 100 meter dash. but i’m too sickly to get coverage i’m willing to pay for? that’s REAL rationing, bubba! can’t wait til i’m 65.

check out ICH.com. check out project censored at sonoma state university, find out what the msm is not telling you. are they biased, sure, somewhat but it’s truth you’ll never hear from the controlled propaganda outlets that pass for information in america. read atlantic monthly, nation, harpers, mother jones, foreign newspapers. see the other side. as far as the post office, require fed-ex etc. to deliver letters and advertising and see where there profits go or the price of delivery. no other country can match us in cost and efficiency (like your costa rica service?). fanny mae? well look back to the deregulation installed from clinton thru bush. they unleashed the beast of selfishness and greed rampant in the private sector. my experience in mexican and canadian health care shows good service and literally 1 tenth of the cost.i’m not mexican or canadian. i also play international softball on a canadian team, and my team-mates give me an entirely different picture of their health care. you’re being lied to, prpagandized. they complain about taxes, naturally, but wouldn’t trade for our system. if i could type forever i’d have lots more to say, but….

there’s only 1 reason we can’t afford health care, the military budget. we’ve spent close to 1 trillion $ on killing iraqis and afghanis. 500,000$ per corpse vs. 53.00 per u.s. poor persons’ help. screaming, gun-waving so-called christians intimidating others to prevent debate.saudis did 9-11. what a waste, i’m ashamed of this country and you should be too. there’s no argument here. but don’t blame me, i voted for nader, the only REAL CHOICE. there will be NO meaningful health care reform. bet anybody? i’ve seen nothing that acknowledges the elephant in the room. EMPIRE. hope, change, what a joke.sos.

re: insect threats. i’m a licensed california wood destroying organisms (not just insects) inspector. the logs can be treated with Tim-Bor, generically called tetra-hydrate octoborate,to prevent attack by insects and fungus. this substance is cheap, relatively non-toxic (it has to be ingested in ounce quantities to poison you, and readily available (in the u.s.). i consider it a wonder chem (think borax or boron) and apply it regularly with long sleeved shirt and dust mask (all that’s required). it’s mechanism of action is its crystalline structure that cuts into insects shells and dehydrates them to death. repulsive to all termites and toxic to fungus. subterranean termites won’t tube over it. it penetrates the wood following the water present in all wood. it will leach out if submerged in water, so needs to be sealed in exposed applications. products (siding and exterior trim) are available with the chem embedded and guaranteed against infection or infestation. google and check current prices. application is easy for anyone, works great and won’t poison your environment.

puritans pride is the place to buy quality vitamins at a decent price. my info is based on consumerlabs.com web-site that vets vits and their claims. full of interesting info and testing of various vits and supplements. to order go to http://www.puritansale.com or call 1-800-749-6172. i have no financial interest in them, just buy from them. also they are not the only honest purveyors, so research may find cheaper purveyors. consumerlabs.com can be fully accessed for a nominal fee or partially accessed for free. and thanks, maravilla for the info re:dogfoodanalysis.com. i now feed my chihuahuas innova evo. no miracle cures (of course, like most dogs, they have no major endemic problems to begin with), but,at least, they like it! smells good too!

i’ve raised dogs all my life and owned tosa-ken kennels and bred japanese tosa dogs. i fed them nutro (a decently formulated kibble) and supplemented it with fish chowder cooked in a pressure cooker. this softened the ALL the bones in the fish carcass and the dogs loved it. cheap, simple and healthy. my dogs (unusual for very large dogs) NEVER went to the vet except for physical injuries due to their active lifestyle. for chewing, use cow knuckle bones which are large, don’t splinter (only get ground into small rounded particles that pass thru them harmlessly). for those who don’t know, knuckle bones are the ball part of a cows joints, similar to your own hip and shoulder joints. as far as vegies, well, all predators will attack the intestines first and foremost for the organ meat and the intestinal contents, which in their commonly vegetarian prey is vegetables
(well,o.k. greens). see farley mowat ( wrote “cry wolf”) for realistic info on the actual diet of wolves.i had two tosa dogs (145 fit pounds each) that ate my asparagus shoots regularly before i could harvest any of them. also bananas, acerola, persimmons, watermelon, and avocados; by choice. dogs are NOT OBLIGATE carnivores! cats are! i’ve never had a dog that would even eat raw meat, but i’m sure there are dogs that will. heck, i’ve never had a dog that would learn to fetch (well, one dim-witted chihuahua), not that i tried real hard. they learned all the obedience i needed from them for safety, but fetch, nah.also, i doubt pressure cooking will work with other meat, but you can try it with chicken meat (it may soften the bones?).i’m sure there’s a fairly wide range of feeding strategies that will work well with the diversity of canines available.

yeah, it does! a large group of people (granted, culturally oriented rather than ideologically) manipulated by fear to engage in the slaughter of other humans due to a perceived threat. the difference? well the amount of destructive capacity set in motion! sort of like a vicious chihuahua vs. vicious mastiff. and where did that efficient and powerful destructive capacity come from? rwanda, indeed! all weapons of mass destruction were perfected and disseminated (if not totally invented) from where? hell, saddams weapons came from where? and as far as the use of them. massively powerful conventional explosives, cluster bombs, anti-personnel mines, noxious gases etc. are also weapons of mass destruction. all of which are used daily by whom? of course the use of these in pursuit of our hegemony is perfectly justifiable, right. there’s very few good persons’ in power. the u.s. is far from the most democratic and righteous entity on this planet (1 in 99 citizens incarcerated is, by definition, a police state justified or not as you see it). things could be better and we have the wealth to contemplate and achieve it, but for selfishness.rwanda, indeed! hypocrisy is the ruling attitude of the day.crayzrj.
