To believe that forcing people to exercise their right (duty) to vote is a good idea assumes that said people will first educate themselves with regards to that on which they’re voting.
crazyfnmamaMemberGracias, Aaron. I appreciate your suggestions and I’ll let you know how my journey to fluency progresses 🙂
Si, los elementos basicos are what I’m really hoping for. I do live in a relatively big city with a large Hispanic population (Austin, TX) and do pick up the local Spanish language newspaper… I can’t say that I understand most of what I read, though. I, too, had Spanish in High School and even some in College but, alas, that was lifetimes ago!
crazyfnmamaMemberI appreciate the answers to my question and also where this thread has headed.
my $0.02… I’m a southern girl and down here we have a saying that goes something like this, “everything’s better with a little pork fat.”
Did I mention that I know not how to cook?
crazyfnmamaMemberThank you for that, rebagaron.
On a side note, when I opened your link, I had to laugh at myself. I have been telling myself for weeks, “learn Spanish, learn Spanish, learn Spanish”. You folks on this forum are a wealth of information… I just can’t read a lot of it! lol. Thank God for Google’s “translate” feature!
“learn Spanish, learn Spanish, learn Spanish”
crazyfnmamaMemberThank you, maravilla. And San Ramon is NW of San Jose, right? About how long is the trip? I’ll be somewhere near San Jose… I’m just not sure where yet.
By the way, I know how to make nothing, although I’ve been known to boil a pot or two of water 🙂 I am really dependent upon others in this way (restaurants, groceries, etc). Can I share your fruit with you? lol
crazyfnmamaMemberThese companies don’t put mom-and-pops out of business, the customers do when they decide to patronize the big box, instead. I support my local businesses because I feel it is my duty. However, I realize that not everyone feels that way. The loss of the old charm makes me sad, but everything changes… Although it doesn’t always seem so, this is called progress.
crazyfnmamaMemberAlfred… I appreciate your patriotism.
crazyfnmamaMemberWow, crhomebuilder, that was quite informative, indeed… Thank you for that. I have the important stuff (shopping!) now conquered! And thank you, Scott, for your earlier suggestions.
Looks like we’ll be heading down sometime in late winter/early spring to find a location for the office and a place for us to live, as well. My opinion does carry some weight with his company… Any suggestions on where to look for office location? Needs to be located conveniently to the employees (who will be educated, tech savvy salespeople types). Also, I like the sound of Blue Valley School in Escazu. Anyone familiar? Is that in a residential part of Escazu? From what little you know about me, do you think I’d be interested? Is it easily accessable? Near where the office may be? I’m rambling, I know, but I have so much to learn and so little time!
crazyfnmamaMemberCan you tell me the name of the company providing VOIP to the business community? The “no VOIP” is of concern to my husband’s company who are planning to send us down to CR.
crazyfnmamaMemberGated… I sort of thought so (also because husband isn’t totally comfortable with what will surely be major culture shock for him). Recommendations? I’m thinking one of the cities to the west of SJ. Also, I’m assisting with the fact-finding mission with regards to business location. There’s some big multicomplex I’ve been reading about in Escazu. Do you know if I’d be able to find a home near some good education options in close proximity to that place?
crazyfnmamaMemberMost likely rent but buying isn’t completely out of the question. I do know we would prefer a house but may consider a townhouse. Too, I should mentiont that the two small children to whom I refer in my initial post are of school age, so that’s a consideration.
