I have my most valuable things like jewels/gold/documents (other than passport) in a Safety Deposit box at the bank as I’ve known tooo many people that were home invasioned & basically I wouldn’t keep much in the house I wasn’t willing to loose. Just another potential option/way of looking at the situation.

I’ve seen safes at elMar (though in Escazu) for wayyy better prices than EPA though EPA had the largest selection.

    I live in Escazu.

I’m not in “the program.” I created the site when someone emailed me seeking support – meetings & the possibility for recovery center & I couldn’t find anything that combined the 2 (I’ve sense learned that’s not kosher so since I’m a free info site – I can do what I desire & I KNOW it’s helped MANY people!! I have a former guest in one of the recovery places right now!!).

Escazu has the MOST meetings in CR so you’ll not be at a loss for support here if you come to some of these meetings.

What’s “Equine Therapy”? I have space at my place that people sometimes use to see clients. We can chat if you want. Vicki@ CostaRicaResourceGuide.com (all run together)

I’ve started to update this but have a feeling now that the Peak Season is upon us, there will be some changes:

ICE pay phone – that works – HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!

To me, if you miss the back roads, you’re missing the REAL EXPERIENCE of Costa Rica!!!

Good for you! I always snicker when people say they’re going to do that but I preface it with, if ya don’t have the time of your life, if something gets stolen, you end up at war/ready to divorce your spouse of 15+ years, you get stuck in a pothole or ditch, ya end up on a dirt road (which is NOT covered in your “full insurance” plan as that’s considered wrecklace behavior so YOU’LL get to pay for that front end!!) – don’t EVEN think of calling me as I’ll just LAUGH!!!!!

Hey – I drive like Mario Andretti & I don’t see myself owning a car in this country as the first week I’d have an ulcer & KILL someone. I’m ALL about ease/joy these days!!!

Where do you go around Costa Rica Bill – San Jose to Jaco & back??? Sure there are some easy routes but then you’re not really EXPLORING Costa Rica!

I don’t know WHERE you’ve seen many “road signs” here – let alone a DECENT map to navigate you around???

For those not familiar with CR – there aren’t a lot of street signs & when we do, it’s OFTEN SUDDENLY – AT the exit (like the one taking you from Escazu to the airport – oh, & it’s like 16″ wide & 4″ tall with NO lights around it) – heck – we don’t even have ADDRESSES!!

I’ve had guests do both – bring a Garmin GPS they brought from the states & I’d say that they were accurate LESS than 60% of the time. The NavSat IS more $$ but ain’t your vacation/ease/life/YOU worth a few $$s more to not have all that frustration/wasted gas/potential situations, etc.?? Driving/navigating around CR is tough enough!!!

FYI – The Orchid Lodge has not been Jewish-owned or Kosher for a few years now.

Fed Ex is quite expensive & a pain in the tush to get things through the aduana if it’s flagged BUT, after a few “situations” I learned a hint that so far has helped a LOT with Fed Ex, as SOON as you have the airbill #, call Fed Ex IN CR BEFORE it arrives here & give it to them & so far with this trick, NOTHING I’ve had shipped to me has been flagged by the aduana!!!

Also, put on the package that it’s a used item & where relevant, something like “forgot used laptop power cord” as I had a guest forget his once, shipped it in my name (he was traveling about) & though it had NO value (because it came with the laptop), the aduana wanted $80 & I had to be the one to go process it or get a notorized letter (10,000-c) giving Fed. Ex to do it for me & with Fed Ex’s time – it would have been like $140 or so!!

Needless to say – we just left it with the aduana.

Anyone know what happens to all those items people say “To heck with it” on??
