thats good I forgot about golf courses its been that long!!!!
daviddMember
Come now david…. what kind of entrepreneur are you…. you should have pitched the reality show idea to some TV producers before mentioning it here! Now someone else is going to jump all over your idea!!!! :-)
let me ask you.. honestly. I think it would be a great reality show to see Swiekert go thru his day to day of trying to acclimate himself here all the way to when he places all of his stuff on craigslist because it would be too expensive to reship back to the U.S.??
it would be akin to a show like Preppers!!! 😯
let me say this. It’s not that I wish him to fail or wish bad things for him but one cannot honestly say you can spot some common denominators of people that stay and people that leave costa rica.
daviddMember
as far away as possible from one of the participants of this message board. (You can probably guess which one).

Swikert
I know Lundquist very well. this is a small country so I will be keeping an eye on you as well. don’t think you will be able to escape me. because I have to meet you face to face :roll::roll:
daviddMemberAnd the cycle of mental masturbation goes on and on and on.. 🙄
Guys can you imagine Sweikert actually taking a shot at living here??
I would pay to see this as a reality show.

The best man at our wedding was my husband’s college roommate and Jewish. One of my bridesmaids was Jewish. I am not criticizing a religion, I am criticizing behavior.
If you truly believe that only bad behavior should be criticized and not adherents of a particular religion then why was your first comment in this thread “Have you ever lived in an area where the Hasidim moved in?” and not “The best man at our wedding was my husband’s college roommate and Jewish. One of my bridesmaids was Jewish. And they are lovely people. It is shameful that some of you are claiming that Jews in general are contemptible.”
Of course I added those last 2 statements because I don’t know actually how you feel about that best man and bridesmaid but I’m hoping that you had warm feelings for them if they were invited to participate in your wedding party.
That reminded me that in my first year at college I had 3 roommates – 2 were Jewish (one was Orthodox) and one was Canadian. The only one I disliked was the Canadian but it had nothing to do with his being Canadian. I liked the 2 Jewish roommates and it had nothing to do with their being Jewish. ALL people deserve to be judged based on their individual traits and attitudes, not on what religious, ethnic or national group they belong to.
All those examples of “special privileges” have nothing to do with religion, they are applicable to all ethnic and religious groups.
daviddMember
I decided to contact the US State Department directly about this question also – and to point out how inadequate the response I received from the US embassy in CR was. Let’s see if that generates anything useful.
Sweikert
you go boy!!!
who’s better than you?? :):):):):)
btw this article may interest you 😮
daviddMember
Have a safe and enjoyable time in your travels Scott. And remember, don’t accept drinks from strangers while out and about… you wouldn’t want to wake up in a bathtub of ice in a strange hotel somewhere missing a kidney someone removed after slipping you a mickey. It happens all the time…. I read it on the internet, so it must be true! :-)
or you can ask sweikert :shock::shock::oops::oops:
daviddMemberScott
Your wasting your personal time that can never be recovered.
In trying to debate someone that is semi conscience and I use the words sparingly is nothing more than participating in this mental masturbation circle.
sweikert will debate you on everything from the Caja to the the cost of living in costa rica to the amount of fast food places to organ traffickers. This is in his nature.
and he is probably doing this on someone else dime
he is probably an employee that a company entrusted him to work on productive items but instead wastes his time on the internet and then goes around speaking like he actually knows what he is talking about.
and in todays soundbite culture he even sound like he knows his stuff.
here is a great scene from goodwill hunting where some topical information guy tries to use that to intimidate a less educated Ben Affleck, then later gets schooled by Matt Damon
can you pick out who best represents Sweikert??:D:D:D
It is my observation and I have gotten many pm’s supporting this statement that it’s people like Sweikert that keep the perpetuating cogs of government going and going and going.
Because they actually believe in this superficial make believe bubble of reasoning.
daviddMemberHoly smokes
I just watched this video and based on the core principles of what he mentions I fall into that catagory also
I am a Racist
daviddMemberScott
this is a big problem in todays internet world- anyone that can post a blog is a journalist
look at Rico for example
this guy used to have a site called costa rica sex.com
his inside costa rica was nothing more than a site that would rehash articles into english
his method of monetization was purely adsense at the time..
and now he has his new sites
but he is still the same
the problem is that there is no ethics no anything to put out whatever articles without any regard to any truth so there is no diligence
there is only headlines to cater to search engine traffic to click on one of his ads
now whats even scarier is that costa rican authorities could literally take and make believe article out of this idiots website and start an investigation.
crazy man..:)
even better example look at piers morgan.. a former judge for american idol.. and he speaks as if he is some authority on all things good.
it is best and I have always recommended this is to never ever put your face on anything internet.
look at sweikert
how difficult do you think was it to find out some information about him :D:D:D:D
daviddMember
I know its real tough to sell anything at the moment but any suggestions regarding the best place to advertise land for sale? What commission do the agents typically charge ? Thanks
barbara ann made some great points
I would add this mindset
think about a real estate agent here as a physical person that will be responsible to just physically show prospects your property.. nothing more and nothing less
then use some targeting internet marketing to generate leads.. your job will be to keep that physical person busy busy busy and make him earn that commission.
set up some measuring systems to make sure he does not get lazy and start pre pre qualifing the leads
good luck
daviddMember
It would bother me to learn that the NSA has my phone number. It would also bother me to get blown up the next time I got on a bus or subway train. Of the two, getting blown up would bother me a whole lot more.
Here’s a thought: Why not move to some beautiful tropical country and concentrate on living your life and all the joys life has to offer instead of dwelling on all the real (or imagined) threats that may exist out there. Somewhere like, oh, I don’t know, Costa Rica maybe.
sweikert925
I could not have said it any better and your 100% correct
all this lunacy from a country I left many years ago.. 🙂
dwelling on all the things that are beyond our control is useless.. and I am a big offender of that myself
I think sometimes it is better to live in ignorance and just deal with the things one can control. Life is too short to be even knowing what governments do or not do.
I am cutting myself off from all things political at this point unless its local here in costa rica
the U.S. will go down whatever path it may regardless of my feelings or disagreements.
so let them implode for all I care
I am going to focus on scaling the aquaponics centers and add some more solar panels to my system
and keep publishing my kindle books as this has now become a large part of my passive income.
I figure in another year I will reach just about 6 figure incomes between kindle and adsense.. and this motivates me.:)
I will also focus on building community of like minded people who share similar values and work towards support systems that can all support our community efforts.. not internet facebook communities but real live face to face people communities.
it is thru communities that will persevere as we slowly detach our dependence from the craziness of society at large.
thanks for this eye opener post

daviddMember
One mustn’t forget to take with you in a CAJA hospital, your own pillow, linens, PJ’s, soap, and towels…and make sure you have someone to take them home to be laundered.
Also one must arrange for a ‘visitor’ to be there, covering a 24 hour period, to help you to the washroom, feed you as there is never enough staff nor ‘volunteer groups’ who step up to help the nursing staff.
Sweikert
the above items is a perfect example of the details that are omitted when your doing your diligence.
now I don’t know what your personal tolerances are but you may or may not find these acceptable in the short or long term.
daviddMemberSweikert
since your information is topical
participating in the CAJA may sound good on the surface
but I know just as many people that would never deal with the Caja here at all because of their personal experiences. They pay into this because its the law. and they buy private insurance for private hospital.
you are making it sound like its a gift that expats here are receiving.
some people would not feel comfortable recovering from a major operation in a large room with 15 or more people and chances are that no one would be speaking english
some people may not feel comfortable with alot of things
while some people feel more at home using the clinica biblica, or catholica, or cima.. etc
imploring is 100% correctamundo!!!
the benefits of relocating here are diminishing.
bit by bit the cost of living here is rising from all fronts
add to the mix the specific catagory’s that are already overpriced here like
cars
gas
appliances
etcyou reach a level that its just not that good of a bargain here.
you may be better off in chicago :D:D:D:D:D:D:D sorry I had to throw that back in there :):D:D:D:D

The $1000 number is way too low to honestly live in CR unless you’re going to adopt a Tico/Campesino lifestyle. So that’s not really a plus for those believing they can make it in CR with that level of income unless they are also drawing down on a nice nestegg as well.
Whether it is wise to try to live on $1000/month wasn’t the point, you asked me for an example of how Costa Rica was offering inducements to retirees and I gave you one. But since you raise the subject it is certainly easier to live on $1000/month in CR than it would be in the US.
CR does offer special consideration to high income residents through the inversionista program. You may not think they offer enough under that to induce very many high income expatriates but you can’t deny that they do have some type of program in place to lure them.
daviddMembersweikert925
your continued rants on all things costa rica is leading me to believe that you may actually be experiencing a case of
analysis paralysis
you probably already have more information than you need to take decisive action but what you are doing is deploying Diminishing Returns.
it would be the same as if you were polishing your car and you focuses on the hood and you kept polishing and even though you already achieved the desired effect you kept on polishing the same area
over and over and over again.
At some point your efforts are greatly reduced in relation to the effect.
everyone’s personal threshold of experience is different and what I or someone else may find acceptable or not may or not be acceptable to you.
If you were truly a student…. that wanted to learn about if Costa Rica is the right choice.. you would be constantly asking questions from people that live here and thier perosnal views based on actually living here….
instead of trying to put forth your views on what you feel is right because you read this on the internet.
Ask questions and come to your own conclusions as best as you can.
does this make any sense to anyone besides myself???
I would bet you a plum nickel what your political views are but will not soil this thread. :D:D:D
sweikert925
here is a FACT!!!! ( and if anyone else disagree’s please add to this as I am open to listen to people living here.)
There are especially here in costa rica;
1.) the way things should be.
2.) The way things are ( in the real world regarding execution of the way things should be) :P:P
3.) and the balance between both as we move thru this thing we call life 🙂

it’s like the example of the brochures of living in costa rica.. as opposed to the actual living in costa ricaadd to this mix your own personality thresholds and we have different experiences all the way around.
anyway
saludos to everyone because things could be worse.. imagine living in Chicago

As to cost. Even the quotes (Cigna) you provided were better than the fee CAJA will be hitting you with if they charge you 13% on a good pension.
At $585.75/month, which is what a Cigna plan would cost with a $0 deductible, you would only come out ahead on cost if your pension on which CAJA is calculated was over $4,505/month or $54,000/year. How many people do you know that have that kind of pension?I also need to remind you that the Cigna figures I quoted above were for a 65 year old man. Cigna adjusts the premiums as you get older so that by the time you’re 70, the premium would be $613.77/month if you took the $1000 deductible option and $1,132.46/month(!) for the $0 deductible option. For that person to come out ahead on cost his or her pension would have to be $8,711/month or $104,532/year.

The quotes, if providing insurance coverage for care provided in the private medical system in CR, provide much better bang for the buck.
I will readily concede that paying for private care in CR may result in better quality but if you can’t afford it, it doesn’t make a lick of difference how good the care is. You’ll never get to experience any of it.
Maybe I’m just not as demanding as the average person but for me as long as the care I got was adequate that’s fine, I don’t need Rolls Royce care as long as Chevy care did the trick.
June 7, 2013 at 5:04 pm in reply to: A New Nicaragua Canal To Compete with the Panama Canal? #202602daviddMemberThis could be a good thing for the country
I tell you if they can just get their act together Nicaragua can most definitely give costa rica a run for its money.
alot of things here meaning people wanting to retire here are just taken for granted
In yesterday’s Guardian newspaper it was announced that:
Nicaragua gives Chinese firm contract to build alternative to Panama Canal“Nicaragua has awarded a Chinese company a 100-year concession to build an alternative to the Panama Canal, in a step that looks set to have profound geopolitical ramifications.
The president of the country’s national assembly, Rene Nuñez, announced the $40bn (£26bn) project, which will reinforce Beijing’s growing influence on global trade and weaken US dominance over the key shipping route between the Pacific and Atlantic oceans.”
