like getting a credit card and they keep raising your limit, even though you do not pay even interest, let alone principal….and these are the “professionals”
yes your right but do they know something that we don’t??

it’s like someone found out they have 18 months to live so they rack up all the debt they can get.. because they will not pay it

I hope Scott would chime in with his acumen.
I don’t even go to El Pollo Loco here in Tustin California. I can cook chicken better. Because of my diet, which is to say I have a fragile stomach that produces way too much acid, I keep it simple. Jasmine rice, beans, chayote squash or green beans, chicken or tilapia, salmon on special occasions, hardly any red meats, let alone filet mignon! I do go to Costco for salmon and angus beef patties. I make superior burgers to any restaurant!
So I think I can adapt to the Costa Rican diet!:D
Scott that a nice place for rich people like you :D:D:D

Davidd, I assure you Scott is a really nice guy, think you need an immersion program in british humor, it often comes off as pomposity…..I know, I married one, it has only taken 48 years of living with him to begin to understand!

Certainly suggest you be less generious with your “knuckle sandwiches”.
I am sure Scott can take care of himself being a commando.

it would be like the thriller in manilla ๐Ÿ™‚

the british commando against Benny Blanco from the bronx.

we could film it and hopes it goes viral on youtube.

seriously I have the utmost respect for Scott Oliver
I feel like writing:

    sooooo

You know there is a huge difference between what the laws says is to be done here in CR, and what really happens. Actually the percentage of what really happens compared to what the law mandates is a joke.

Maybe not so much of a joke if you get caught, but none the less the chances of getting caught for anything here are very slim. Especially when it comes to issues like home schooling, vaccinations and infringing on copyrights law.

All of you, as Davidd suggests, that cannot get what you want by not following the straight line maybe should again as he suggests go home and follow the very broad dark black lines that take you exactly where you want to go back in the US.

One of the great things about Costa Rica is the opportunity the “practice vs theory crisis” brings to us.

If you cannot figure it out, 1, you probably do not speak Spanish; 2, you probably only associate with gringos; 3, you find yourself morally superior; 4, you cannot understand how to adapt, just like the dinosaurs…

    Like John Lennon said,

“You either change with music, or music changes without you…”

For your own personal sanity I hope you guys dig Lady Gaga… ajajajajaaaaaaaa

always loved your rational level headed replies.

this is my exact point living here and one of the reasons what makes costa rica great is this disparity with the law and what actually goes on.

it can be frustrating to the follow the line law abiding people that come here and expect everything to be spelled out exact

step by step paint the numbers here.

    its not

and whether or not I wish this cold be the case does NOT change anything

it is what it is nothing more or less.

sometimes you have to use your own judgment based on actual real world data by observation.

    for instance

I now know that when new law or tax comes into law I am never the first to line up and pay this.

    I wait

until it goes through its process.. then I make a decision.

speaking spanish is a MUST!!!! it should be a crime and requirement that people speak spanish if anything only for the opportunity to experiences the real culture by immersion

i have a grandmother that does NOT speak english living in a italian community in NY

been living there since she was 20 years old and she is 85 and she does NOT speak English

can you imagine she had denied herself life experiences because she chose to migrate and stay in a Italian community.

    saludos
Unless you know me Davidd you will not know or appreciate/hate my sense of humor.

What is also interesting to me as a Brit after 12 years of living here is that it has been my experience that I come across fewer “cultural differences” and less clashes in my relations with Central and Latin Americans than I did with Americans in the 11 years I lived in NY.

My ex-wife is a New Yorker and my gal here for the last 9 years is from Guatemala.
You are wrong!
The public school will not allow non vaccinated students in the public school system. This is not so, for all private schools
    Check out previous newspapers reports.
And maravilla is correct. I too, had American neighbors who were forced to send their children to a public school because the were ‘home schooling’.
One of the Real estate agents who used to post on this forum, left the country due to ‘home schools issues’
One may get away with the ‘home schooling; if you are only in the country for a short time. I have a friend who has 4 children and they do ‘home schooling’ but they return for many months at a time to the US where they attend ‘regular’ classes. The parents also know that they could potentially, be charged or made to put all the children in school.
costa rica finca

OK.. I guess your right… my sister in law I guess was the only exception that somehow was able to home school her children and they all passed and have their high school diplomas.

I guess my sister in laws neighbor which also home schooled her 4 kids that also has their high school diploma.

these kids are now in their early 20’s

so maybe there is something else going on here.

maybe its a little different for foreigners

again too many explanations that i care to follow up on

vaccinations like I said… its probably a law but NOT enforceable.

so if this was a real issue for you and you wanted to stay in this country. then you will have to make decisions.

some affluent Tico folks that I know of that do NOT believe in Vaccinations made a few financial contributions and went there merry way

so there are plenty of options available and in this country.. $$$$$$$

    thank goodness for that

for the rest of the people that when they come to a challenge they call it quits and move on..

    good for you
i am talking about “home schooling” — as in teaching your children at home and NOT sending them to school. and just try not vaccinating your kids here. They will be yanked out of your home so fast.
Maravilla

    do you have kids here???

I say this because.. honestly your talking out of your ass for lack of a better word ๐Ÿ˜€

this is a perfect example of how this wonderful thing called the internet works.. and people either that do NOT know the facts but regurgitate info they read somewhere before or a some soundbite somewhere.

I have alot of respect for you Maravilla so please don’t take ofense.

    first off

you can home school kids here. My sister in law did exactly that with her 3 kids..and there are many parents that do this. in the end they have to take a goverment school exams for all the materials to attain thier diplomas.

    2nd

if you don’t believe in vaccinations.. there is no law or if there is no way enforceable that will pull your kids from you and make them get vaccinated.

this country has not yet reached that goverment micromanaging level.. thank god

like the police state as back in the good ole U.S. of A.

    david

PS. for an example of pulling your kids out of your house requires a call to PANI for some type of abuse or neglect

I have come to the conclusion that there is no justice except by oneself

for example: if these mooks stole my money. I would probably devise a plan to have them whacked

    now that would be justice.

    2 things

1 is that you have to physically in person open an account

    2. they have a address like mailbox etc that forwards all their mail.

if your a foreigner then all you need is a passport

in fact i have a german national that needed a U.S. bank account so he took a few days and flew to the U.S. and opend up an account

i don’t understand how.. all i know is that the U.S. treats tourist alot better than its own citizens

a costa rican national can visit the U.S. and with his passport open up a bank account.

i have 2 friends that did just that 6 months ago
That’s really interesting. Several months ago, I, a U.S. citizen, tried to open an account at HSBC US online and was turned down because I don’t have a physical street address in the U.S. There was no way to talk them into it. A supervisor insisted that it’s against the law.
i was thinking about these new rules and i really don’t know why anyone is complaining. i mean, all i’ve heard for 8 years is how screwed up CR is, this that or the other thing is ridiculous, laws aren’t enforced, blah blah blah, and how things would be better if they were more like the US.
well, now they are. congrats. all the people who whined got just what they wanted.
until this new set of rules, you could get a bank account with just your passport, same with a DL, and you could start a business. you sure as hell can’t do those things in the States either without proper documentation. imagine some mexican immigrant walking into a Manhattan bank and trying to open an account with his passport. HA! so with each new law they pass, CR is becoming more and more like the first world country we all left. now we even had street addresses, for god’s sake. should’ve left well enough alone. now look what we’ve got. sheesh.

they deploy these tactics because of the massive fraud that goes on with social security checks being cashed by other people or going to someone who is dead.. etc

there is a massive amount of waste and fraud that goes on in all aspects of government entitlements

I know of at least 1/2 dozen people that get food stamps that should NOT get it.

in fact one couple that I know actually use their food stamps money and turn them in at a butcher shop for bones and scraps that they feed their cats.

    this happens all the time.
