Actually I have one through ARCR. I am not that familiar with overnighting, etc. Can they fed ex something to a po box? I guess I was under the impression I had to receive it personally & sign?
debMemberI read in one of the books on Costa Rica that one can get their 90 day stay extended either by doing paperwork through Immigration Dept or simply go to a travel agency and they will file paperwork. Does anyone know anything about this?? The travel agency one sounds just toooo easy.
debMemberDo you have the name of the place you stay at for $28.00 per night in Panama?
debMemberI have only been here about 3 months but I know there are many short-term rentals out there. There are also inexpensive homestays where you could be immersed in the culture. As far as the boredom factor, that depends on what kind of life you want. If you enjoy nature & beautiful sights you will never be bored. Always surprises…i think someone enrolled my family in the Bug of the Month Club. Suddenly, about every other day I see something new (in my house). The rain depends on what area in the country you stay. As I said, I have not been here long but I know some areas get lots & lots of rain while others not as much. The transportation issue also depends on where you stay. For the most part, the more populated areas have decent transportation via buses and taxis..very cheap. Hope some of this helps. Good luck.
debMemberSpeaking of perpetual tourists; if one is working on obtaining residency (already here) and has been here more than 90 days I know you must leave the country for a period of time. I am confused re how long you must leave. I read in more than one place that you could basically cross the border and then return. Other times I read you must spend 72 hrs hours in another country. Can someone clarify this please? Also, if it is 72 hrs, does any one know of an inexpensive place to stay while in Panama?
debMemberDawne,
I brought a small dog and cat here from the USA. You would need to check with airline, but on Delta we could only have one of the pets in cabin with us. They both did fine…There is no quarantine requirements in Costa Rica. I don´t want to give wrong information, so please check elsewhere on forum for precise details on bringing in pets. You need to get a letter from local veterinarian with shot records and stating pet is in good health. Also can get tricky depending on where you are flying from if you are having pet in luggage area (temperatures). My understanding (again, please verify this) is that Costa Rica does not recognize 3 year rabies shots. So, if last rabies was more than 1 year ago, pet needs another shot. Also
rabies shot cannot be any more recent than 30 days prior to arrival in Costa Rica. This documentation was requested at both my departure airport and in Costa Rica. Hopes this helps….it was very easy but please verify facts.debMemberI realize no place is perfect and intended in no way to state San Jose was an awful place. Many areas in downtown have a lot of character and are quite charming. We simply wandered into the wrong area of town…wrong place at the wrong time. I had left good ole Peoria, IL and crime was on the rise in parts of that city….one young girl was grabbed and molested on the way to grade school!!!! No place is all good, nor is any place all bad. By the way, we still go downtown but now we know exactly where we are are are much more aware ……
debMemberI don´t know about Netflix, but my family had service with
Blockbuster. We just moved to CR and I know they do not serve this area. However, as many here do, we are having our mail and packages delivered to Miami, Florida. I am going to investigate whether that would work….sent to Miami, which is then forwarded to CR for pickup. Does anyone know if that would workdebMemberSomeone please correct me if I am wrong, but I thought I read somewhere one could apply for Social Security at the American Embassy in Costa Rica. Is that correct?
debMemberHi Judy,
Sorry for late response….I have been held up in the Midwest, enjoying the weather here as well. Due to various things (family illnesses, last-minute odds & ends, trying to figure out how to get 3 pets there, etc)myself & 2 sons are making the big move Feb 28!! My husband has been there most of the time since Dec 2 & loves it! I can’t believe we are actually finally doing this! So far the strangest part was selling a large home & trying to figure out how to basically get our lives into 2 suitcases (plus carry ons)each.
Debbie
debMemberThanks for the info and in answer to your question, I would love more information.
1. Is Colegio Bilingui on an “American” school schedule?
2. Do they teach Spanish?
3. Can you give me an idea on tuition?
4. Excuse my ignorance, for I do not know the proximity of San
Ramon to San Jose area; does the school service San Jose?Once again, thank you.
debMemberWe have bought a house there & I have been doing research via internet for schools for our 11 & 14 yr old. Although I don’t have any answers for you I can share my observations. The lists of private schools there most always contain many of the same schools. There are many, many other private schools that, for whatever reason, are not on those lists. It appears those schools are found by word of mouth. One thing to consider when making the decision to move to a rural area is fewer prvate schools. They seem to be in the more populated areas. Some who move to Costa Rica opt to homeschool. Hope some of this helps.
debMemberMy husband got a very nice haircut in San Jose. It cost him $3.00. If you are interested, I will provide more info.
debMemberIs anyone familiar with the “Rocket Spanish” teaching method?
debMemberI had checked into that diet (Feingold)once & from what I could tell, you would have to make everything (bread, etc) yourself. Unless I misunderstood, one could have absolutely no preservatives??
