I am currently in IL (USA) but moving to Costa Rica next month. He has a horrid (strange) appetite…loves things with preservatives, etc. It seems like he absolutely craves sweets. Anyway, I would appreciate names in Costa Rica, for I had already planned on checking alternative treatments. I had already thought of the fresh fruits there being a good start.

I’m in the same boat…2 small dogs & cat. I am dealing with Delta, flying out of IL. Make sure you address temps cause flying out of Midwest the temp has to be just right. If it’s under (I think) 45 they will not take the pets unless you have letter from vet (special name..forget) stating pet can withstand temps to 32 (or close to). But if it is below 32 they will not fly the animal. Period.
Also, check rabies shots. I don’t think Costa Rica recognizes 3 yr rabies, plus I think last rabies cannot be within 30 days of flight.

Myself, 11 & 14 yr old sons are arriving there from the US in a few weeks. We are now covered under my company, but since we are moving to CR, we will need to find new coverage. The CAJA sounds like a nightmare, however I have heard the INS does not cover pre-existing conditions, which would be a problem. I did try to review the coverage on website but I found it to be rather vague…. I am also investigating international plans but they seem pricey. We have no major medical problems, but my 14 yr old has been on different meds here & there for possible ADHD, mood disorders. I have heard psyotropic meds are not readily available there any way. ANY SUGGESTIONS?????

Does anyone familiar with aerocasillas know if vitamins can be mailed this way? Are items opened (packages) upon arrival in Costa Rica?

    Hello,
I am currently in the Midwest & moving to Costa Rica in January. At this time the only thing I can help you with is re getting information via websites, etc. I have checked out several forums which are not very lively, meaning all I see is an occasional post to which there is no reply. I think you will find this forum to be very helpful. It contains a wealth of information from regular people. I have posted several messages to which I always get a rapid response. Good luck!

It’s good to know that St. Gregory is good, for it is one I am planning on checking on when I arrive next month. Does anyone know anything about Sistema Educativo San Lorenzo?

    Thanks for your feedback about
Atenas. I later found out my husband had been no further than what he called “downtown,” therefore he was hardly in a position to judge. Plus,we all have our own tastes. He made some new friends who live in Santa Ana who say it is very nice. Any one familiar with that area? I am curious about one thing about Costa Rica….why are there so many gated communities? When my grandmother here in the US heard we were looking at a house there & learned it had, as she put it,”bars on the windows”& a high fence surrounding the property she stated it must be “in a dangerous area.” While I know petty crime is common, are the window grates partly decorative??

I have to say one more thing (& Scott is not paying me). This forum has been more useful to me & my desire to learn about Costa Rica than all of the books put together!!!!!

My husband retired early in the US & receives a monthly pension check. Our understanding is he can apply for residency under the pensionado status.

I had been trying for some time to get information re the Talarke school. I received the following from the director which should be helpful.

    Debbie

Yes, our website is presently being revised and updated, to be installed under a new title.
We are an elementary school, and although we have graduated 6 generations of 6th graders, this year we only have students from 12 months to 3 rd grade. For the year 2010 we hope to open up 7th grade and after that, will add one grade per year until we have a full highschool.

If you need any more information I will be glad to answer any further questions you may have. Call me at 273-3353 from 7:30 – 3:30 pm.

    Sincerely,

    Susana Cabezas

    Director

Is San Ramon near San Jose? We are purchasing a home in San Jose & at least for awhile will rely on buses, public transportation, etc. Do you happen to know the name of the school? I know someone else posted a note talking about private schools costing $1,000. per month in California. Well, Costa Rica does not have California wages, & while many of the schools sound absolutely wonderful I cannot afford $500.++++ per month. My husband retired early so we will be living on his pension + I am planning on picking up extra money doing ESL.
