I want to thank everyone for taking the time to provide me with school information. I know I will want to visit schools upon arrival, however this is extremely helpful. There are some (for whatever reason) I can cross off my list & others I will definitely want to check out!! Thank you again.

    Ha Ha Ha Scott!!!!

It’s just hard for me to imagine such things since, as you are probably well aware, things are just so perfect here in the USA (no unseasonal weather, no crime, no lack of good healthcare, no hunger, no unreasonable, stubborn, power-hungry president…..oops..mybad) 🙂

I have checked Daves ESL Cafe & other websites for ESL jobs in Costa Rica. I have read these type of teachers in CR are “a dime a dozen.” I am wondering if that is true. Most of the jobs I see posted are for Asia….not Costa Rica. Are there less jobs or are there just too many teachers?

    Hello,
My family is moving to Costa Rica within a few months & are members in the USA of a Lutheran church. While there are many Catholic ones there, I have not seen any signs of one of a Lutheran denomination. As a an alternative myself & two children (ages 11 & 14) would attend a non-demoninational church. Any one know of any Lutheran or good non-denominational churches in the Central Valley area? Thanks.

I ran across a couple who are selling a beautiful, furnished home in San Jose for $145,000. They are willing to take $65,000. down, we would pay 9% (figured on total mortgage for 20 yrs) ea month to them & then get bank financing in 5 yrs.

I am not going to get into the politics, however here in the midwest, (about 2.5 hrs south of Chicago) it seems less & less we have little or no spring-like (70’s) weather. We go practically from the end of winter into hot,hot humid summers. I love having my windows open & that can happen less & less. Plus, the utility rates are more than doubling, plus when you compare virtually no real estate taxes in Costa Rica versus paying almost $4,000. per year (& we are talking about an older, brick ranch) …enough is enough… Now because of much hurrican damage the last few years in other states, my home insurance rates have tripled!!! I know I promised not to speak about politics but I do have to say that with the people in power which we now have (not to mention any names, George) I want to get out before we decide to attack another country. (sorry…couldn’t resist)/

Speaking of healthcare I have a question. My husband, myself & 11 & 14 yr olds are considering a move to Costa Rica, however we are on several different medications. We are under a prescription drug plan here in the US, so a single prescription costs no more than $35.00…others much less. Any suggestions re healthcare there? I know the government one (forget name) pays pretty much for all, but how is it? With other insurance there would I have to pay full price for medications? I understand prescription medications there are supposedly cheaper than in the US, however when you have insurance & get them by paying a co-pay it makes them more expensive. Can I please get some feedback from those who moved there from the US re what type of insurance you have found works/doesn’t work? Thank you!!

Sorry to jump into this conversation about 1 month later, however I am wondering how a non-resident enrolled in a public school. I am assuming the child is fluent in Spanish? I am moving there with an 11 & 14 yr old who speak English & my understanding was I have two choices: Expensive bilingual school or homeschooling. Am I correct?

Thanks everyone for your feedback. Ok…stupid question, what exactly is the difference between “residency” & “citizenship.” Also, regarding ESL teachers not making much money…I realize that, but does the government take child support (from US–$)into consideration??
