Are you saying that we can decline the insurance? I was told that it was a law in CR that we had to purchase the insurance which is $950? If there is no damage, we get it back. Can someone set me straight? We’re arriving in one week and renting a car for 5 weeks. Thanks.

I’ve done both. Rosetta Stone is total immersion. Visual Link is good – but you have to translate the verbs and nouns from English to Spanish and that takes time and thought. There is absolutely NO English associated with Rosetta. You learn from picture association and since it’s all in Spanish, you don’t have to think about it. You just learn it. It’s amazing how quickly you progress. I recommend Rosetta.

We have a night scheduled in Grecia. Is it pretty much the same there or should we make a point to stay in San Ramon, too?

Hi Phil. Unbelievable! You mean there is another Phil and Terri in CR?!? Tell me, how did you like Grecia and where else did you visit? Are you back in the US? Planning to move to CR?

By the way, we do plan on renting for a year before moving down permanently. We have teens and they just may not be happy in CR. We can always sell our land if need be. Thanks again.

Yes, we do have a title. I will take your advice, however, and check with our attorney when we are in CR in July. I do appreciate all you have shared with me and will take the necessary precautions.

I purchased my property from Steve Riley, a realtor promoted here on welovecostarica.com. Does that mean anything?!?!?

Scott – Off the record I need to vent with you. This is the 2nd time I have been slammed down by you from a post that concerned families and kids. Why can’t you just allow people to respond to me without slamming me down right off the bat? The first time was when I was looking for families to discuss their moves to CR and now this. You had to question just what it is I was looking for. Apparently you are not a family / child friendly site. I am on a cr yahoo group and have gotten quite a few responses telling me the best places to go with kids and the worst – Dominical for one. I am a conservative homeschool mother who cares about the evil outside influences in this world no matter what country. Our Spanish is next to none and I’m sure there are places – like the Caribbean coast I’ve been told – where they speak Jamaican influenced English – which might be a better place to go. I appreciate your comment on rip tides, however, it just seems to me that you have no sensitivities to mothers looking for other families to meet up with or looking for advice on the SAFEST place to go with kids.

It is true that you can call the US from a US lap top in CR on Skype for 2 cents a minute? We’ll be visiting CR this summer and I’ll need some way to return US phone calls for my business.

Oh yes, we were there. We purchased from Steve Riley / Paradise Peak. Steve and his associate Puli are watching out for us. We feel that we have family down there in Steve and Puli. We are just uncertain where exactly our land is located. It is extremely remote with no houses anywhere around at the top of a mountain. Puli will be clearing it for us next month for our arrival in late June – but I really appreciate your advise and concern. We have Scott Oliver’s book. Any other suggestions would be great.

We already own 10 acres in San Joaquin on the north east side of Orosi – somewhere! So we started backwards, owning first! Does the crime seem more prevalent in one area vs. another? We really love Orosi and would like to buy a house there as well. Thanks. Terri

Sorry, Scott. I didn’t word my reply very well. My response was in the form of questions to another Gringo family of what type of info I’d be interested in hearing. We are totally green and would love to know just how a family made the move. For instance, did they sell everything and start over or did they get a container and move everything? Moving a family is a big step as if the kids are unhappy, what do we do? School is also an issue if your kids don’t speak Spanish. Any family type information would be great in helping us get our ducks in a row so to speak. Thanks for your kind replies. Terri
