What are the ages of your chidren? Do your kids go to school or are they homeschooled? How did they learn Spanish – privately or total immersion? Are they happy or do they want to return to the US? Can we meet up this summer while we are down there? Any information would be helpful. Thank you. Terri
delucajmjMemberWe’re planning on moving our family out of the USA to CR by next Jan. Do you people already living down there feel sure that you will be in a better place when the economy tanks around the world? Is anybody worried about being in CR when it happens?
delucajmjMemberHi Joe.
Can you give me the web site for the Toyota rentals? We’ll be down there for 5 weeks this summer and haven’t decided on which company to work with yet.
Thanks, TerridelucajmjMemberHave you honestly had to use your 4wd to the extent that we should invest in one?
delucajmjMemberOkay. I thought I “needed” a 4×4 in Costa Rica. We have purchased land in the Orosi valley where it rains 160 inches a year and roads get washed out. I think I probably need a 4×4. Maybe I’m wrong. It certainly would save me money to not have to buy a 4×4. Not to mention as you said, gas mileage. Would you kindly tell me why you would not buy a car in the US and ship it down? I just read another post on this site that says the cars down there are not built up to US safey standards and are mostly wrecked and repaired AND the odometers are pushed back considerably. So, please, I would love to hear why you say NOT to bring our own vehicle down to CR. Thank you so much. I value your input. Terri
delucajmjMemberHi Scott.
This is not in relation to banking. It is to thank you for your web site and also thank you for Steve Riley. My husband and I flew down to CR in December and spent two wonderful days with him. Purchased 10 acres in San Joaquin and fell in love with the Orosi Valley and Steve. He treated us like we were long lost family. And we feel now as if we are. Just wanted to let you know that Steve is the best and we look forward to seeing him more often after our move. And I also hope to meet you and help out with some of your kids programs. Terri DeLuca Midland, NCdelucajmjMemberHi.
I think I responded to Jessica instead of you just awhile ago! I have two questions if you don’t mind. I would value your opinion and expertise in this area seeing your experience in selling cars and the fact that you are living in CR.
1) I assume it would be to our best interest to buy a car 1 to 3 years old to save duty…or save on the front end on the price of the car and buy one a bit older. We are a family of 4 and would need a 4×4 vehicle that seats 6 to transport teenagers. What would you recommend? I would be most interested in a vehicle that gets good gas mileage. I’m a bit shy of diesel as the price is higher here in the US. No guarantees that it won’t go higher in CR, I would guess.
2) Is it true that you can purchase unclaimed vehicles at the port for the duty?
Thanks so much for your help. We are planning on moving maybe as early as next December (2010) and should begin our car search. Thanks!delucajmjMemberThanks, AlbertoB. We’re coming down next Wed. for the weekend – heading for Orosi Valley! Yee-ha! A sibling group would not be out of the question. Need to find land and build first. Look out, here we come!
delucajmjMemberGood advice. Thanks everyone.
delucajmjMemberIt is A LOT of coins. They wouldn’t fit in my pocket. Perhaps we will just have to pack them in our container when we ship our household goods. Any comments on the security of the large port containers?
