    David,
Would you mind sharing as to what happened? Why did the 1 bedroom house cost so much! I’m sure any info will help the rest of us intending to build. Hope all goes well on the main house.

    Hi Maravilla,
As from all the info I have read, there have NOT been any hurricanes. It is still too far south. My husband and I were going to look for property on that side so I did alot of research. The only thing I came across was that they may have had a few days with alot of rain and stormy seas dues to one of the hurricanes last year. Can’t remember which one anymore as so many of them.!! Since we currently live in Florida (less that 10 miles from the Gulf) it would probably be the last place I would look if there was a strong possibly of hurricanes. The only reason we decided against it was the distance to everything and not as much infrastructure in place. There is a great website called lifeinpuntauva.com. They are the owners of Carib Sur real estate where I was referred to from Scott. Well, enough of hurricanes as we officially start June 1st! Let’s hope it’s not like last year!
P.S. will be staying at Angel Valley for 17 days in Oct. Have been in touch with Andrew. It was a little weird as when he responded to my email he was in Puerto Viejo at the time and had just left Punta Uva! It looks like a GREAT place for a vacation!

Vivian, Costa Rica does NOT have hurricanes no matter what side you are on. It’s too far south of the equator.

Scott can hook you up. You will need to narrow your search as to where you want to live. The prices are much lower on the Carribean side, but that also means lack of infrastucture. My husband and I had also looked at the Carribean side and was recommended to Caribe Sur. Take a look at there website. After much deliberation we have decided that it is just too far away from shopping, hospitals, airport etc..
    Good Luck,

Sad to say not much to tell. I’m guessing that the entire CR spot maybe lasted 3-4 minutes(if that). There was no mention of the property where the interview was done with Scott. He recommemded that people considering the move live there(rent) 6-12 months to make sure they want to live there. The other spot was with a Remax agent I beleive from the Playa Hermosa area who is just swamped and can’t go on a vacation without someone asking for his business card. A retired gentleman who has lived there for a few years who can live well on his retirement. The spot actually didn’t come on till the last few minutes of the show. If you went to get a refill on your glass of wine you may have missed the entire spot! (lol) That’s showbiz

What type of health plan have you all enrolled in? The state plan, one of the private plans or no plan at all? I know from what I have read that the private plans do not cover pre-x conditions. I can’t find any specifics on pre-x, such as waiting periods and what they consider pre-x.
    Thanks, Debbie

Hi db, I also came across that property on one of the websites. It sounds like the elevation was alot lower, but the views looked awesome! I know it said that the lots ranged from 25,000 to 50,000 but did not give any sizes. I also did not see if there was going to be any gated entry. Is eletric, water and phone included? How many lots will be in the development? Would appreciate if you have any of the answers.
    Thanks,
    Debbie

A great big thank you to all. This is great info. I am awaiting a reply from Andrew ( he was in Puerto Viejo when he received my email at an internet cafe) the dial up was way too slow! I had mentioned to him that we actually put a deposit on place to stay in Cocles! So it was a bit of the twilight zone when he received this. I’ll take it as a good sign.

    MarilynSunshine,
If you are referring to Medicare when you say the social security medical system, it DOES NOT cover out of the US. Your house mate would ofcourse keep social security but no longer have the deduction for the medical portion if he/she chooses not to.

Thanks for the info. That will certainly help with an idea of when we build a home and know what is left for a pool. We currently have a pool in Florida, so I am at least familiar with the chemicals and pool filters that need to be maintained.

Not sure of any travel agents, as I don’t personally use them. However,
you can get alot of info from tripadvisor.com. They will list different places to stay in order of popularity. Also read the traveler reviews and forums. If you are looking to retire George Lundquist does a travel package. Hope this helps,
