Alfred – I am quite shocked – are you implying the Bible, whcih I think Catholics know a bit about, according to Catholics, whih I think you might know a bit about – does not condone homosexuality – which Aragon has spun into a “don’t pick on people” thing???? Just shocked – who will break the news to Beca – she will be just crushed poor thing…
diegoMemberWhoa Scott – looks like the sheriif set you straight. “Don’t you make that mistake again young man or I will whack your ….” You fill in the blanks – You are a real charmer Beca!!! Bet you are just loads of fun on a date too. If it walks like a duck, talks like a duck – it is a duck!!!
diegoMemberOh the New Testament thing! That was very good you little spin expert you. I forgot that the Old Testament was not part of the Bible. So we can just exclude it and pick the parts we like! Very clever you covering that point in your post, so as to expose it before I nail you with it – taking the wind out of my sails. None the less consider your self nailed.
So it’s pick and choose Christianity and you are not religious just spiritual – my, my we have all the answers do we not? At least my critical comments are direct – as most of your indirect disguised passive aggressive behavior – very womanly. Typical feminist stuff – hide behind the skirt when it’s appropriate and then come out and fight like a man when you can.
But I shall not stoop to the cry-foul game that is so prevalent among those that love to play the race card and the “you all think women are less than men” card, Tisk – tisk. Aragon, you should stop using such crutches and try to stand on your opinion and intellect alone – it is less of the victimization thing and more of the liberation thing – in real world time – so let go of the yesteryear-world and wake up to the new world in which people of color and women do not need to fall back on the “oppressed” thing.
BTW I think women have more power than men but they have been duped by the card carrying feminist to try to use their masculine power (everybody has both) to compete instead of using their god given female power which Taoist philosophy clearly calls superior.
Very Ironic that feminist are abandoning the more powerful energy to seek the less powerful energy – wouldn’t you say. So feminist are not really about equal power, they are about equal masculine power – except they have forgotten about the genitalia now haven’t they. So when they get masculine power it just doesn’t really play right now does it? Kinda unnatural and non traditional – the antithesis of natural and traditional, which happens to be what most Ticos would consider themselves – and after all this site is about Costa Rica now isn’t it?
Also the quantity of words versus the quality of them is another feminine trait you use well. You are defiantly all-woman Aragon. The problem is being all-woman does not play well when trying to compete for masculine power. But it does wear masculine power down as feminine power is know for ite endurance.
Now if you were clever, (you are obviously smart, although much less clever) you would dig into the feminine power that is part of you natural element of power. But I can see that you are a slug it out with the boys type.
Have you not learned much from your CR girlfriends that astutely use their natural elements of power (femininity) to charm their way to their goals along with their smarts and status, and I am a big fan of that. No – the Gringa in you must “Overcome” and the minority in you must support the “we shall overcome” theme.
Well Aragon you obviously have this self definition clash – Gringa, minority, race thing going and its all to confusing for me. So if you can’t win on the validity of your argument than just dazzle em with smoke and mirrors and misdirection – ehh?
I am watching you Aragon and it is quite amusing, but hardly charming (a feminine trait, generally speaking).
– Nighty night Beca
diegoMemberShow me where in the Bible it says that gay behavior is condoned – or did you forget that little ditty about fornication.
You know – having sex for other than reproduction – you have heard of fornication and I believe you are astute enough to know that two people of the same sex cannot produce offspring.
I have nothing against people standing up for the little guy. But when they champion themselves for their action – then I start to question their motivation. Is it done to help others or glorify them?
I think you are a give to get type – a possible control freak – “Reb to the rescue so you will be indebted to me.” That’s my thin slice analysis as of the moment (read Malcolm Gladwell (Blink or Tipping Point)?). I will update as more info presents itself. BTW are you an early riser?
So what about the Bible deal?????? Balls is in your court, this ought to be a good one – probably a non-reply
diegoMemberYeah I caught the respect barb Beca – I am still watching you (LOL). The Tao of Physics is a good one, the new one “The science of Leonardo” is also a good one.
diegoMemberLota assumptions in that post Arragon, and I was for the most part teasing you, so don’t get your panties in a knott Rebe – you are a good egg. I was just starting to like you. You do you want Don Diego to like you don’t you. That’s just it, obviously you want everybody to like you. Me — I could care less, cause there are going to be those who like me for the huge log I have in my eye and those who do not like me for the spec of dust I have in the other eye – and what’s with all the biblical stuff anyways?
I would rather see someone who is faithful to God’s word that someone who flaunts their churchianity or is so RE-LIIgious..
You just take your self so seriously… The caped crusader for the feminine and minorities. Yet another one? Hasn’t that vacancy been fillied about a thousand times over and what are you a “last word freak” – comon get over it – I was starting to think you had lightened up a tad. Are you like the new female sheriff of the board or what?
Don’t worry the good Diego may come back someday…
diegoMemberNAW, go ahaed. adventure awaits you in Costa Rica – at least that’s what the fortune cookie said…
diegoMemberYou little monkey you… How dare you stick your toungue out at me? Watch out now a Capuchin monkey might come along and bite it off!
diegoMember“I make it a point to take good care of them and not take them for granted.” Well put Ms. Aragon –
The initial chemistry and fondness between acquaintances will wear off quickly if you do not tend to that relationship in CR or anywhere else–no big mystery there.
The initial fondness seems to be an art Ticos have refined – would you not say?
I try not to expect… Everheard of “if you are only in search of Silver, you never see the Gold all around you.”? That is my quote so I doubt you have heard it. I like it though. Expectations can be hard on ourselves and others. Like your expectations of me…
diegoMemberWhoaa – I did not write the perfect post!!! I an going to lose sleep tonight. Look who is getting their post picked apart now…. I’m really in a huff now.
Well I could speak specifically, that is not generalizing, but I would have to write a book about it.
Sorry guys and girls – don’t have that much time for Scotts forum – and the money he pays me to write this stuff couldn’t buy a plate of Gallo pinto.
Also – what is a friendship?
To most women a friendship seems to be a more casual thing.
Guys tend to look at friendship as more than gabbing on the phone etc etc. Guys see friendship as lasting and do not enter into them quickly.
My personal experience from being on the planet is that women are quick to enter into friendships with women and equally quick to get out of them. And guys are slow to enter into friendship with other men and slower to relinquish them.
I have a ton of casual Tico friends –
But as we are lucky to have a more than two handfuls of true friends during a lifetime – I wonder exactly what you all mean by friendship.
So before we go off on a tangent about all the wonderful friends we have through out the world blah blah blah – maybe we should define the difference between a deep friendship and a casual friendship – Ticos are experts at casual friendships and I mean experts – it is part of their charm. Not so good at deep ones.
Jo – Ticos paying the bill at a restaurant – You have to be kidding – is there anybody else out there who is laughing as hard as me – how much experience do you have in CR – Are you Godmother to half the nation? My idea of a Tico paying the tab is when they invite you for a beer and then after they invite you, they say “well I will pay for mine” That’s about as close as it gets… (generally speaking of course) I guess I will have to use that last qualification as a disclaimer on all my posts.
diegoMemberMzzz Aragon,
I was not addressing you specifically (I wonder what made you think I was?) – but don’t give up hope – the “Good” Diego shows up from time to time.
Don’t you think the “non-women” thing was another of your “brilliant spins” (over the top) that was not implied in my post – but “assumed by you.” Continual defense is usually a ritual nothing more than an elaborate form of insecurity – and you seem very defensive regarding issues such as race and gender. Is there a need to spin here – I did not think so.
You can make your point – but your assumptions do not validate your twisting. They seem more like validations to express your point of view. You point of view is valid no matter what and one hardly needs to spin something as a reason to express themselves. I sense you have experienced some repression. Regardless, we all have the duty to bring our best selves to the table. So leave the past in the past, crusades are for crusaders.
I am happy being me, so don’t even think I need your OK or suggestions about what I might or might not try. Alfred knows how I like to amuse myself – he gets it. You – well – you are well educated and even seem to have a softer side – but – overall I just cannot seem to figure out why at this particular point in time – for the moment anyways – you bug me. (LOL) I am a great thin-slicer, I can intuitively tell things, but would need more information to determine what just quite doesn’t smell right here.
About the God died and left you in charge thing – Well Godmother – make me an offer I cannot refuse!
PS – Rebe, another nice spin effort regarding who is picking on whom. Don’t think you will get a pass from Don Diego on that one either – I am watching you Aragon. You talk the talk but I am curious if you really walk the walk… Hmmmmm
Are you an early riser?
diegoMemberRebe makes sense this time.
But aren’t “chapulines” a type of monkey?
diegoMemberIt’s easier to keep civil liberties than lose them and try to regain them. It’s just like the “temporary” income tax that eventually created the US big government.
You see one problem with big government is it creates a lot of government workers – who then have a warped sense about government – they actually have been weaned by it, its kind of like an animal that has been weaned by a human – it will only take food from the human. So Gov workers (take ICE employees) know that most people think that those who work for the government do not have a real job, and they get isolated – kinda like cops with other cops – its the us against them syndrome (take it from me, because I have taught a lot of cops). So this inherent trust of Gov, by a ton of people who get their paychecks from them, skews the citizenry. It starts with – “Oh its okay – the government won’t hurt us! “ Okay – right, – “Not my government” would be the nationalistic cry.
Wrong, wrong and did I say “wrong.” Big government is the number one blight on man kind. Number one.
Some would call me an anarchist – I am not. What I am is a fiscal conservative. We have to make government as small as can be. How do you make government small? De-fund it. In Costa Rica’s case do not mega fund it. Arias wants a mega funded nation – an Arias big government developed nation. What is so good about a developed nation where people are so materialistic they would rather have more stuff than having kids? They do not want kids because the government has made rules (which they all blindly follow) against punishing kids and the kids are intolerable. They are in the parts of California that I maintain a home in.
It has been government institution such as the colleges that have created all this destructive political correctness. They are the ones who are tearing down traditional values by promoting that:
Homosexuality is normal
Abortion is okay to use as birth control (tell me how many of you out there that have ever been a party to abortion has not regretted it).
Motherhood is waste of a woman’s lifeFor all you PC folk out there, listen up:
Homosexuality is perverse
Abortion is murder
And women should retain their femininity and bear childrenSo before you PC types fry me at the stake for saying this – be truthful with your self when answering this question – would not most Ticos agree with the last set of the three statements?
Costa Rica is/was traditional and all you PC types including Arias want to make in non-traditional.
One last lesson before I call it a night, now that I am all wound up:
“The rules were created for the game. The rules were not created for the rules.” – Straight from Diegoism 101
So all you good little rule followers out there who have gotten lost in following the rules need to realize that rules were made to make life better – they were not made for the sake of following them for their sake only.
THINK ABOUT IT for at least a second or two, now reread it.
When they come to take away civil liberties and all the independent militia types that you Gov types like to laugh at and call nuts, who have been defanged by the government taking away their weapons, will no longer be there for you government lovers when the Gov starts to DEMAND cooperation that you are now freely giving, that in the future you may no longer wish to participate in (like the ID chip planted behind your kids ear at birth) – think I am joking eh?
Better think twice befor you blindly accept the cameras because they are tracking “terrorists.” The may consider you as one of them when you say – damn NO – I don’t want my kid to have a tracking devise.
I don’t know, maybe all you politically correct Gov types want tracking devises in your kids – What say you David M. I’m sure Rebe can make some politically correct sense of this conundrum. Do you want tracking devises in your children – do you even have children? I have several and I plan on having more and I hope they never have to make a stand against tracking devises in their kids.
Final line: cameras are far from traditional and the more the Arias nation leans towards the untraditional, is the more it sells out Tico culture. Bueno – another round of cheap electrodomesticos on the president. The problem is he will be handing Ticos the bill to pay, and the price will be paid in Tico culture.
diegoMemberI agree with Scott – this is a great subject and great people. Before I reply let me introduce myself, Hi I am Diego one of the more opiniated of the members here – I have been in and out of this country for almost 20 years – so I have seen a lot of changes – and frankly I would give up all the equity I have in this countries (and that a lot), if it would go back to the way it was in the late 80’S.
So don’t take my 35 cents worth to seriously. Here goes – (Scott are you cringing?)
Don’t expect to become close friends with Ticos – close relationships are made through family and over a lot of time. I do not think Tico have the same idea of extended family that we do in the states.
Don’t lose your temper and shout. Always comes back to haunt you.
Realize that most of the retribution you may or may not deserve will be passive in nature.
Expect to be gossiped about and do not take it seriously.
Ticos use their words as weapons very well – they have little other recourse except to gossip or snitch you off one way or the other.
Be polite and use manners
Be generous – they expect that.
However, be assertive and draw boundaries – they will respect that.
When you sit with Ticos at a restaurant you can count on the server bringing you (the Gringo) the bill for the table – so be prepared. I have been at the Pizza Hut with a friend and a couple of his family members and they even ordered pizza to go on my tab! I kid you not.
Be ready for some hard luck stories – they know Gringos are suckers for them.
Don’t trust the attorneys – no matter what they say and how nice they say it.
Be wary of anyone selling real estate. Make sure they are in the biz 24/7 or do not talk to them.
I have been here for a long time and I doubt that more than a handful of Tico see past me being a foreigner. But that’s okay; I don’t mind it because I have accepted it.
You will not be considered family even though you may feel like it – if you can remember just that, you will do well. And I think that is why it hurts a lot when they take retribution on you for what you would consider the most petty reasons. A lot of them do it for no other reasons than they can. Ticos I think have at least if not moore jealouscy amoung themselves and forigners. They in some ways like most latin culture think it is a form of expressing affection (Generally speaking – all you political correct people take a breath).
Be nice, be generous, be polite and remember it’s their country and don’t try to educate them. Laugh, huge, kiss pat the kids on the head, tell the women how pretty they are, and be randomly kind. You will see that they have a tremendous public appreciation of that and they tolerate Gringos well.
Most Tico think Gringo’s do not know what is important – and unfortunately – they are right in most cases. If you have kids – you are way ahead of the game.
Remember you are the Gringo – rich white invader from the north – and you are!
I forgot onre thing – don’t expect things to be organized or quick – it is a process driven culture – so if you are not doing bussiness here – IE trying to get things done, this won’t bother you much If you are… take several deep breaths and when you are about ready to scream over the most idiotic acts – well remind yourself where you are and why you are here and that it is not like back home – and you will be okay , Beside the medical is cheap so if you have a heart attack over the status quo – the bill will be less!!!!
diegoMemberHey Sprite,
I took you post seriousluy untill I read the last paragraph.
Unfortunately, the part that needs to emphazied is “as long as civil liberties stay intact” oooH – that was a big “AS LONG.” Public cameras are a huge invasion and the beggining of the errosion of civil liberties. So the Gov gets the info, Gov uses the info, and then you cry foul to the Gov when it misusues the info – sounds more like the Cuban System the (in-) justice, Samuel Adams would be rolling in his grave.
Honestly I don’t know why you guys come to CR and want it to be like the US. It stupifies me. Isn’t the “let’s go to someplace wild and tame it” mentality lasting a bit long – like from the Columbus days. The problem this times is it is comming from the americamn puppet Dr O. Too many Cheerios I guess.
