Everyone’s points are well taken. My BCT Costa Rican bank also wants me to purchase debit card insurance against fraud. Mom did not raise a fool, why pay for the insurance, when CapitalOne offers 0% debit liability.

    tico437,
Thanks for your banking experience. A couple of days after reading your post, CapitalOne mailed me an offer for a Master Card, Debit Card, linked to a checking account. The MasterCard Debit Card offers, 0% foreign transaction fees, 0% debit liability, you only pay for what you have debited, and $25.00 monthly reimbursement, for other bank ATM fees. This appears to meet our needs. I requested a debit card from our BCT bank in Costa Rica, we have had the account for three years, yet they still want federal tax statements, and my Costa Rican attorney to provide all our original corporate paperwork. Think I will go with CapitalOne!

David. The WD-40 chemical compounds are great for leather, it cleans and conditions, just spray on and buff. Think outside the box, do a search for “Cleaning Leather With WD-40.” Hell, you can even fish with it on bait, fish love it!

We have leather furniture in our beachfront in Guancaste. I use dehumidifiers and utilize air conditioning 50% of the time, and ceiling fans the remaining 50% of the time. Keep in mind, you must still have a leather cleaning and conditioning schedule. After cleaning, I use WD-40, with excellent results.

    waggoner41,
Thanks. We have been with our CR bank for two years, under a corporate account. In order to obtain only a debit card, we now have to provide a copy of our last federal tax return, and have our CR attorney provide the bank with our corporate paperwork. We have to pay our attorney, to provide the bank the same paperwork that was already provided, to open the account. You are correct, they do not appear to want our business badly,or they actually believe that every American is trying to launder money, from pensions!

In terms of Costa Rican banks, and check clearing. We have a dollars and colones account with BCT. Checks clear in one week, the fastest of all the public and private banks in Costa Rica. To avoid the high cost of wire fees, we merely deposit a check into our account, to cover expenses and HOA dues, each time we return to Costa Rica.

    bogino,
Do yourself, a great big favor! Swallow a M33 or M68! You will not know what they are, ask a military person who has used them, to protect you right for free speech.

    maravilla and sprite,
I would agree with both of you in part. However, “no one hates war more than a soldier!” We bleed and die, not for god and country; rather, for the fellow soldier to the right and left of you. I was drafted in 1971, and served in Vietnam, The Gulf War, Iraq and Afghanistan. I stayed in the military to save as many of your inexperienced military sons, daughters, husbands, wives and friends, from possible combat death. The military is not always about killing, mostly, it is about trying to save lives!

He supports marijuana legalization, he cannot be that bad! Hundreds of thousands of disabled veterans are forced into a criminal activity; buying illegal marijuana, to help ease their service-connected disabilities. I am neither a republican or democrate. Anyone with two brain cells, and the ability to do some simple research; will also be aware that the American “War Against Drugs” the last 111 years, is based on racism, Mexicans and introduction of marijuana into the U.S. Unfortunately, most Americans cannot or will not think outside the box. America is like the Titanic, and the U.S. politicians are merely rearranging the deck chairs.

That is not the only thing the United States has lost! The real pain is yet to come!

When is a politician lying: when they are moving their lips! America is screwed, as long as it only has a two party system! It amazes me that people vote for a politician, against their own interests. Americans never think outside of the box, or exercise any critical thinking.

in reply to: Moving to CR From Canada – Worried about crime #172567

If you are worried about crime, do not move to the U.S. I live part-time in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; know to tourist as The City of Brotherly Love. However, we who live in Philadelphia, call it Killadelphia, with three or four murders, a day. I live part-time in a gated community in Guancaste, with 24 hour armed guard protection, home alarm and neighbors with several dogs. I am also retired military, with combat experience. I feel much safer for myself and my wife in Costa Rica. Petty theft, is the crime of choice in Costa Rica, and home invasions in isolated instances. In short, Costa Rica is safer than the U.S. and Canada.

I have been doing similiar research for the last year. I posted a similiar question within this forum last year, and received several responses. Do a forum search for jacuzzi. The bottom line was, buy one from the “Do-It” Center, or have one shipped in.

For someone only 25 years of age, you are wise beyond your age! You give me hope for the upcoming younger generation, who can look outside the box!
