Your receipe for mayonnaise, sounds great! However, a man has to have one vice, a Miracle Whip vice; is the lesser of all evils.Disabled VeteranMemberLiving in Costa Rica, for only four or five weeks a year, I have learned a valuable lesson. In Costa Rica I live life to the fullest, back in the U.S., I exist. I have adapted to a Costa Rican lifestyle and diet, however, I must confess, I still buy Miracle Whip; at double the U.S. cost. Fresh seafood everyday, clean air, wildlife all around my house, friendly Ticos and Ticas, that still ask permission to enter your Casa; and no stress; what more could one want!
Disabled VeteranMemberGive me fresh seafood, rice and beans…..I came to Costa Rica to live a healthier life! Not pay $17.00 to kill myself slowely!
Disabled VeteranMemberBogino,
I am in exactly the same situation, born in Germany, mother German; father American; naturalized U.S. citizen. I am also in the legal profession, do some homework, regarding German citizenship requirements, and U.S. tax laws, regarding tax evasion and citizenship renouncement. You will be shocked! So, I continue to pay U.S. taxes on two pensions and social security, thankfully, I do not pay U.S. taxes on my VA disability compensation!Disabled VeteranMemberStandard & Poors cannot get the day of the week right, why and how did they receive the power to screw all of us!
Disabled VeteranMemberScott is right on target. We bought our home two years ago, last year our property tax increased approximately 50%, incorporating the luxury property tax. Compared to the $4,500.00 a year property tax on my home in the U.S., I have no complaint.
Disabled VeteranMemberCostaricabill,
Thanks for the information and insight. I plan on purchasing a 42′ or 44′. I am also looking into flagging it in Panama, and just docking in Costa Rica for 90 days, then sailing to Panama or Nicaragua for a few days; then back to Costa Rica.Disabled VeteranMemberDavid,
All do respect, you must be on another planet, called Costa Rica. I am a current federal employee with DOJ, and all federal employees (non-politicians)are on a pay freeze for 2011 and 2012. The freeze not only effects our pay, it will also effect our pension. Our pension is based on the “High Three” income levels before retirement. Also, in terms of the COLA, if you eat, drive or have health insurance in the U.S., there is inflation at about 3% plus. The government figures on inflation, exclude fuel and food.
Disabled VeteranMemberSounds like you should get legal advice!
Disabled VeteranMemberIn the U.S., the airlines are fined by the federal government, unless you have a return ticket. The agents check your passport, during the check-in process. However, I have heard of cases where individuals had one-way tickets.
Disabled VeteranMemberScott,
Nothing personal. Just providing another option. I’m sure you would agree, options are priceless!
Disabled VeteranMemberladytravelnurse,
There is an excellent website created by an expat, who has lived in Costa Rica for years. He is factual, accurate and not business advertising inclined. I have traveled to Costa Rica for the last 13 years, and currently own a home there. I still refer to his website for information and updates on Costa Rica. If you send me an email, I will be happy to provide you with his website.Disabled VeteranMemberbogino,
Yes you could, why would you want to! My income exceeds $100K, however, I try and live a modest Costa Rican lifestyle, below $2,000 a month. The flora, fauna, clean air, fresh seafood (if you fish) and friendly Ticos and Ticas, don’t cost a dime! My most costly expense, or should I say my toy; is my sailboat (however, I use it to catch, breakfest, lunch and dinner.)Disabled VeteranMemberTry some of the miles of deserted beaches in Guancaste. You can walk for miles on the beach without seeing anyone. Got to go, the doctor is still treating the sunburn to 100% of my body.
Disabled VeteranMemberFalling out of favor, I think not. After having traveled around the world, in the military; I chose to purchase a home in Costa Rica, and retire there. The flora, fauna and Tico/Tica helpfulness and warmth; are priceless. Not to mention, clean air, clean water, and fresh ocean seafood. Sitting on my terrace, surrounded by my lush tropical garden, and viewing the ocean day and night, is heaven!
