    David,

I am a high level federal employee, and I can assure you, our salaries have been frozen for two years. I assume you are not a current federal employee, and are misinformed. The freeze also reduces our federal pensions, by two years. The government inflation numbers and analysis are prepared by bureaucrates in Washington. Those of us here in the U.S., and the real world; see inflation in our utility bills, grocery bills, fuel costs, health insurance, auto insurance etc. Instead of paying these new inflated bills, I will merely inform these entities that “there is no inflation,” and that I will pay my current bills at the former billing rates.

Ahh..Obama, he started by cutting our VA disability compensation COLA for two years, Social Security COLA for two years; and froze our federal salaries for two years. I’m glad the military trained me to always expect, the unexpected! And, always have a Plan B. I have prepared financially for whatever storm may come, and fortunately in my case, social security will just pay for a new boat. In the U.S. class battle, there will only be the haves and the havenots. The middle class has and will continue to be destroyed. I truely thought there would be a mass demonstration or quasi-revolution, when Obama froze veterans disability COLA for two years. I was sadly mistaken!

The “Flash Mob Attacks” are an every day event, here in Philadelphia, PA! When my wife and I go out to dine, I feel much better having a concealed weapons permit!

I would agree with Scott, and another member’s post. The U.S. should be on top of the list. In my major city, DHS is raiding the message parlors in China Town, nail shops, etc. Sex slavery may even be happening at the business you walk by every day. I also work for the government, DHS arrests and detains thousands of prostitutes and sex slave women and girls a year.

For comfort and space, a 4 X 4 is excellent, however, be prepared to pay big bucks. We live in Guancaste part-time, we usually rent a Toyota Yaris, from Adobe; for three weeks. I rent from the same rental agency, and always asked for a frequent client discount, from their Corporate HQ, in San Jose. Adobe usually gives me a $150.00 discount, for the three weeks. Practice your defensive driving, the roads leave much to be desired!

    Sprite,
Your points are acknowledged. I have a home in Costa Rica and Nicaragua; neither is in a gated community. I am a active member in both communities, and financially support numerous organizations and causes. I obtain tax free income, for life, and have no need to exploit anyone or anything! I avoid the tourist and expat watering-holes; and frequent local establishments, where I have experienced the occasional prejudicial expats. The point I was trying to make was, Americans and Brits do not leave their prejudicial attitutes in their home country. Rather, they still exercise those prejudices upon expats of color, whom they perceive as lower class Ticos and Ticas. You are most fortunate not to experience, or witness prejudice in Costa Rica. I worked hard and made outstanding investments, to afford my luxuries; for a very comfortable retirement.

As an additional note, the females are usually more agressive than the males. It has to do with their maternal instinct, to protect and defend.

I would provide two suggestions. One, consider a dog from the numerous breeds at rescue shelters, in Costa Rica. They are healthy and loyal. However, be prepared to conduct additional training. Second, prices for certified pure breed dogs, are insane. I was raised with, trained German Shepards with the U.S. Army Military Police, and currently have one. Whichever breed you choose, additional training is paramount. You should establish immediately that you are the Alpha Male, you provide training, feedings and discipline. Your dog should never take any food from anyone other than yourself, however, you can also appoint a Alpha Female or a Beta Male. Remember, dogs are pack animals, and always defer to the pack leading Alfa Male, and the established pack leadership. Also, you must stop thinking like a human, learn about the natural behavior of dogs, and behave like the pack leader; by providing affection, disciple and orders. Also, be very cautious of the poisionous frogs in Costa Rica, I believe there was a previous subject matter forum on this site.

ricardo-cr, I could not agree with you more, well said! The cost of living will continue to rise, as long as expats continue to flash their wads of dollars or Euros, and agree to pay inflated prices on goods and services in Costa Rica. My wife and I are both bi-racial, German and Afro-American. We chose to purchase a retirement beachfront home in Costa Rica, because of the flora, fauna and the easy-life culture. I am retired military, and have traveled around the world, and experienced numerous cultures; both good and bad. I am financially well-off, however, we live well below our means. I previously traveled to Costa Rica the last 13 years, prior to our home purchase; and have seen numerous positive and negative changes. My wife is still mistaken for a Tica, and I am still mistaken for a Tico, not by Costa Ricans; rather by expats, not of color. I am still amazed at the very negative responses my wife and I receive from expat Americans and Brits, when dining out, or at the marina; that is until they see us enter our Range Rover Sport, or sunbath on our 44 foot sailboat. We have managed to merge with our Costa Rican community, and have helped our community to become a better place, for both humans and animals. There was a time, when you could live a comfortable Costa Rican lifestyle on $800.00 a month, now, that will only pay for your food, utilities, home services expenses, and fuel, if you own a luxury home. I am saddened to see what Costa Rica is evolving into, caused by negative government policies and negative immigrating persons.

    Joe,
Thank you very much for the information you provided. We will be checking out your recommendation in July; once we return to Costa Rica.

    mr.di-Joe,
Your post was of interest. I have a home in Playa Hermosa. We are also looking for some custom woodwork. We are looking to have a wooden kitchen wrap around bench, with drawers and cushions built. We have pictures and measurements of the design we would like. We are only a hop and skip from El Coco. Any information you could provide, would be greatly appreciated!

smekuly. Relax, combat veterans earned the right to go-off on individuals who denegrade military men and women. Think you are nervous now, come with me on a helicopter flight, using auto rotate! (smile.)

Just the truth Carlito, just the truth, and the evidence! You really stoop low when you question a man’s honorable military service. Hell, give me a shot, do some research, check your dark space, where the sun does not shine. 1972, warrant officer, Cobra helicopter pilot, 101st Airborne (Death From Above,) Hua, Vietnam, two missions a day, shot down twice, destroyed 18 tanks, 36 trucks, 15 boats, 100 carts, and saved numerous Army and Marine personnel from ambushes and attacks. I love the smell of 20mm and rocket fire in the morning! Meanwhile, back on the ranch, what is your claim to fame? From your writing, you appear to be someone who does not have the balls to wear any type of military uniform. Enough said!
