I dont think you need a realtor at this stage. I always advise clients if its your first visit to treat more as a vacation and visit a few different places that provide some contrast in style/climate. Once you have narrowed down the search and decided that you want to pursue Costa Rica further you can then seek out an agent in that specific region, good agents will also be able to point you in the right direction for other parts of the country as well. The welovecostarica recommended realtors network is one of the best places to start.

dkarrMemberHi James, I’m Scott Oliver’s recommended realtor for the Central Pacific and actually specialize in Los Suenos. It’s important you get a clear understanding of recent sales, and receive insight to the best current values so you can make a better decision. Feel free to contact me to be assured you are getting the best service, as many offices do not present all options and focus on just their own listings.
dkarrMemberI know firsthand the pool of professional and ethical realtors in Costa Rica is small, I have personally worked with almost everyone of the recommended realtors in welovecostarica and have to say Scott has done a great job in recommending Costa Rica’s best. I work with Daveed all the time, you are in great hands with him!
dkarrMemberHi Randy, I’m kind of confused as I was one of the realtors that spoke to you and didnt feel I was vague sugarcoated anything. Like I mentioned the reality is that financing is limited to seller/developer financing

and it is very difficult to find the property you are looking for with just 30-40,000 down. As I said if you would like to pursue your dream of living in Costa Rica I encourage you to not let that deter you and take a look at some longterm rental options. I pride myself on giving it to clients “straight” and thorough consulting, so if there is something I missed, ask away and im happy to help.
[quote=”Scott”]I am NOT a Realtor and don’t personally sell real estate but have been involved in hundreds of transactions primarily in the Central valley area.
The topic is a BIG one and since I have already written a couple of books on Costa Rica real estate, perhaps you could be more specific as to exactly what it is you want to know and I’ll try and give you the “straight skinny.”

dkarrMemberStating that driving through Jaco in the middle of the night is “dangerous” is I think pretty ridiculous. I obviously have my bias, but think some of these comments are a bit over the top. Best advice, spend a night here and see for yourself, go have some ice cream at El Barco right in the center of town at 10pm or have a drink at Los Amigos.
dkarrMemberIf you are relying on asking this question on a forum I’m very concerned you are not dealing with a reputable realtor and/or recommended attorney.
David is absolutely right, but more importantly follow the most important tip that this site advises and find yourself some professionals to ensure your transaction is safe and secure!
