And what on earth does that to do with doubleb’s question Costaricafinca?

Has anybody looked into how crime in Costa Rica compares to crime in Panama?
I have. It’s the same. Their cops are morons too, and the legal system is the same pathetic joke.
Boquete has identical problems to Ojochal.

Any ” carpenter” that works for less than 15 to 1800 is nothing more than a grass cutter with a saw and tape measure.
Like anywhere else…you get EXACTLY what you pay for.
My guy gets 2500/hr.
You and me both! I can’t think of a Spanish equivalent for “nut jobs”…

It’s simply not possible to refute the maths… Our banksters and their political whores have dug a hole so deep that we can’t even see the top.

What is terrifying is what some politicians are suggesting would help us out of this hole…

Remember?

“Further, the process of transformation, even if it brings revolutionary change, is likely to be a long one, absent some catastrophic and catalyzing event––like a new Pearl Harbor

Or at this time, more likely Iran…

VOIP doesn’t cut it here.
Skype is about as close as you get but even that is an ” issue’ at ICE. They wish it wasn’t there and will probably try to get rid of it or, at least, get a piece of the action. I suspect they may do a VOIP but that could take forever.Probably will.
I bought my place under the premise of high speed…if you call 128 high speed and couldn’t get it at all.
Finally I have 2 MB DSL after 3 1/2 years of trying.
Make sure and actually follow the advice of renting for a time…like a year before you even think of buying anything…other than a cheap car.

I’ve seen 4 families pack up and head back up “there” in the last year.

If you like rural living check areas like Ojochal, Turrialba, San Carlos, Fortuna and some of those places for high speed service or DSL. Maybe San Isidro del General too.
Those all all fairly populated areas where you can get pretty much anything and may have good internet due to their population.

Thanks guys. Looks like a road trip is in order !
I would have thought Liberia would have a few but the folks I have asked just give a blank stare.
Maybe I’ll run there Monday and explore for myself and if not…ROAD TRIP.

I haven’t been to the Central valley in 4 years.
Could be “interesting” LOL

Davids suspicion is likely correct. If they allowed them out of here every Tico anywhere near an airport would be standing there with birds for sale and padding the pockets of the clowns at the airport to see that they made it out. Same with orchids.

If you bring your parrots here make sure they have their own alarm system.
Trust me on that.
There’s a few punks with very bad memories of trying to borrow my toucans, several times.

There was a female osteopath at CIMA… An osteopath is basically a chiropractor that can actually take and read an xray, ultrasound, MRI etc. and write prescriptions.

Good post.
The real estate in CR has been completely blown out of whack over the last ten years.
Property that was 2 to five bucks a meter quadrupled, in some cases far more than that, for no reason other than advertizing hype. There was virtually no infrastructure improvement to make these prices blast upwards.if anything, with the crime increasing at an equal rate to property values, it should have gotten cheaper.
One can still buy land here at $2 to 5 a meter and build something pretty darn nice for $50 or $60 a square foot if you are sharp. Most aren’t.
I see realtors showing junk Tico houses#yes, there are good Tico houses too#…for $175 grand on a couple of acres that are worth a couple bucks a meter.
10000M x $2 is 20 grand and a 1000 sf house….cheap built campesino style, is worth maybe 5 grand.ON SALE TODAY for the smoking deal in paradise of only $169,954 !!!

Since it seems every gringo with a calculator becomes a real estate pro here it’s buyer beware.
First. Learn the language.
Second. Make friends with some Ticos while you rent.RENT
Third. Put the word out that you might maybe, kinda , sorta, be interested in land to build a place on but only have a little money.
OR……………… Hit the developments and get yourself a $40K house for $300K

It makes a great beer cooler but you have to plan ahead if you want to attach handles.
Pictire drilling through a skim coat of stucco and hitting 4 inches of styrofoam when you want to hang a plant…or towel bar or……….then you´ll invariably hit rebar or hardware cloth which makes it even more interesting.

You’re talking about a country where they build simple little 2 br-1 bath HOUSES, as in concrete/steel/hardwoods for 30 grand. What in the world would they want with some glorified sardine can made of termite food for 2-3 times that ?
Fortunately, the minimum for an expat to live here is above………ummm….that.
Maybe an RV park ! Lots of big RV’s on the road here ! LOL

Try Mexico.

If it does pass Costa Rica is finished. MASS unemployment, closed down supply houses,Real Estate and rentals ? Finished. Property values ? ” normalized” …you know. Back to $2-$6 a meter like it was 10 years ago, since that’s all it’s worth anyway.

I think it depends on where you are.
Up here on the lake I have had fantastic service from BCR. Ummm Plus the girl runnung the branch is a GUUUUUUAPA !
When I was building this shack I needed tons of cash on a daily basis and they quickly removed the maximum amount I could withdraw daily. I can send money from overseas tomorrow, before noon, and have it accessable here in 24 hours.
This is small town life so may not apply down in Mexi…. I mean San Jose :-)~

Well sure a good bit is beahvioral but lets face it. Costa Rica is slap full of thieves. Maybe not violent criminals but thieves galore.
I don’t think being American has too much to do with it since I have dozens of Tico friends who have been robbed either a home break in a car window smashed or recently, my e and his family at knifepoint mid-day at Baldi hot springs.
Matter of fact I do not know ONE SINGLE PERSON Tico or Gringo or German or anyone who has not been ripped off in some manner in the last three years. The police are either dopeheads ( 1500 suspended now) or trying their best only to have some idiot judge let them on their way the next day like the 2 bozos with ” armas pesados” who were caught red handed in Tilaran and arrested only to be set free the next day. Thank you for “protecting” the public Judge Sandra.
2 other idiots in camo were caught loitering outisde the bank with 9 MM pistols and a Tico called the cops. They arrested them but had to let them go since they hadnt robbed the bank YET !!!
How bout the guys on the autopista that were dressed up as cops looking in cars that were arrested and let go cuz they ” hadn’t committed a crime” ?
This place that I love is a joke run by completely incompetent idiots !
Here’s one :
http://www.elon.edu/pendulum/Story.aspx?id=821

How about the real estate girl who wrecked her car in June on Playa grande and ejected her and her infant from the car ? The Ticos stopped to help her. …out of her papers, jewelry, purse, laptop and even took the kids clothes. Left them lying there !
Yeah Reality
Pura Vida.
