might add, glad all here are seemingly safe and well……told wife that CR has stricter building requirements then other latin nations-or many USAV builders to boot…
The houses are ten times tougher than the garbage in the USA (except Fl and Kalifornastan).
Ticos look at the trailers and press board 4000 sf show shacks after a tornado or hurricane and just shake their heads.
Chicken food “concentrado para engorde” (the stuff you buy at the vet store) has growth hormons and antibiotica. The first is necessary to guarantee a maximum weight gain in a minimum time, the second has to make sure that the poor animals don’t get sick. In the chicken fattening industry it is (off course) all about profit and each sick or dead animal can infect the whole litter. I don’t know how they do it at Pipasa or similar companies in C.R. , but I have literature where it says that they normally keep and fatten 25 chicken per square meter (2,5 chicken on one square foot), in closed barns, no fresh air, so sunlight….. The barn is never cleaned during the (4 to 6 I think ) weeks of fattening period. The animals are kept with the light on almost full time to make sure they sleep less and eat more.

In order to grow organic chicken, or produce organic eggs, one has to make sure to feed them organic food, and keep them outside during the day. They will not get as fat as fast, but they will be happy and healthy chicken during their short live.
Engorde is completely unnecessary. I kill mine at nearly 4 kilos, lean, large and mean.

Hello,

I actually visted Costa Rica for the first time last year (Playa Flamingo, Guancaste area) and did not really like but the circumstances under which I visted had alot to do with it. Since then I have NOT been able to get Costa Rica off my mind. I really want to go back and REALLY get a grasp of what life is like there and would really solidfy if I want to relocate in a few years. I was thinking of maybe trying to get a job at the U.S. embassy. I have had such a hard time making in CAL, even though I was born and raised here. Just thinking this might be a change of pace but the Culture shock may be too much and I also do not know if the Government is corrupt or if I can make a decent living over there????

    Any input is greatly appreciated!
I just wanted to confirm what Maravilla said. It is much more difficult for an American to work in Costa Rica than it is for a Latino to (illegally) work in the USA. And if you get caught working illegally in CR they can kick you out and not let you back in for 10 years or something like that. Basically CR is not a good place to look for work.
Thank you, for all of your information. It looks like I will be staying here after all.
No govt on earth is as corrupt as the USA and no country on earth has more bureaucrats than Costa Rica.Panama, Nicaragua and Ecuador are also a hell of a lot cheaper.

I hope you are renting. if you bought and don’t know any Ticos that can pick you up in their cousins, uncles ,sisters covered truck you are on your way to becoming a statistic.
If It’s Liberia, PM me and I’ll get a guy to come. I hope you can live without A/C on the ride.

If I don’t know the person that actually owns the business, I’ll not cast my shadow on the floor.
I left The Empire to get away from that nonsense.
I don’t even set foot in Gollo or Colono for that reason.I don’t know the people that actually own them. I might change my tune if I meet them and ask their employees about their integrity.
The Central Valley is nothing more than an outpost for The Great Satan. I need to go to my buddies meat market this morning and cut my pigs back into lomo and chuletas.
Then I’ll come home and fire up my smoker.
I had a run in today with the traffico’s and almost got a ticket for 270,000 colones (or at least that’s what they told me it would be). I know a lot of tickets got reduced, and some didn’t, and I’m having a problem finding a website with the actual infractions and fine amounts. Does anyone know where to find this?
Jaryd. God doesn’t even know.
Toss tickets in the trash and in two years they are history.
From [ http://www.miller-mccune.com/politics/don%E2%80%99t-legalize-drugs-decriminalize-%E2%80%99em-29133/ ]

“It may seem like semantics, but Portugal’s experiment in decriminalizing drugs (not legalizing them) has had some pretty impressive results. ”

The results are impressive: A drop in HIV rates, a drop in street overdoses and a drop in overall drug abuse (except marijuana). People don’t flock to Portugal from across Europe to abuse drugs. “The apocalypse never came,”

It would be nice if someone in Washington could show enough level-headed sanity and courage to do the same. A Mexican drug war is lapping at the southern border of the United States in a way that communism never did, but no one (south of the U.S.-Canada border) has the guts to quell its driving force, which is the American lust for drugs. Meanwhile, the prisons fill up with “drug felons.”

What do our other VIP Members think?

I am not sure if decriminalizing drugs would have the same positive effect in Costa Rica because the bulk of the drugs are in transit, no?

IMHO decriminalizing drugs in Costa Rica would only produce significant results if they also decriminalized drugs in the biggest drug consuming nation in the world, the U.S.A., which I doubt will happewn.

    What do you think?

I agree. No matter. Some stooge with a badge or uniform has yet to tell me what I can and cannot do.

I think 100% legal is fine throughout Central America. Let them ride in with 1000 kilos, stay in a nice hotel, buy gas, food, tires, etc. Thank them for stopping by, send them on their way north to The Great Satan. Let those idiots deal with it.

CR is like anywhere else. Stay the hell out of the cities and all is OK.
With your background come down and check out places like Bijagua,Guatuso, Los Angeles de Tilaran,Libano, Cabanga, Chachagua, La Lucha, Florencia, Turrialba, Cartago….the road to Irazu:?:

Don’t shy away from Nicaragua either. Like every other noise that ever came from the US(or ever will), what you hear about Nica is nothing more than lies. It’ll be the greatest, most progressive, greenest nation on earth once they’re able to seat a puppet.
As soon as that happens the Biden brothers will be building fatcat compounds with gates and golf courses.
Property and cost of living is far cheaper in Nica too.
    It’s a beautiful country too.

It just makes you want to go beat the Hell INTO a priest.
I don’t know one single person, Tico, gringo or ??? that hasn’t been ripped off in some way or another. The reason Latin America ( and Italy) are loaded with lying thieves has one cause. Catholicism. The biggest farce ever foisted on mankind and likely worse (in ways) than Islam.

Looks like the state dept edited that chart so you can barely see “Evul” Nicaragua is on par with CR. Talking with expats in Nicaragua I think overall crime itself is far lower in Nicaragua than here. Probably because they have REAL police and courts as opposed to the circus here.
