MemberThis is your first time to Costa Rica, and you’re looking for properties?
No offense, but that’s a bad idea.
How can you know you will want to live/own property in a country you’ve never even been to?As far as motels go, just drive to where you want to go, find a motel, ask their price, ask to see the room, then decide if you want to stay there. Overall, the cheap motels are very clean, although simple. You dont really need to stay at a big name hotel, unless you want luxury.

MemberBe careful flying in/out of Liberia though. They’re kindof what you’d call a “podunk” airport that does things pretty screwy.
When we flew out of Liberia our last time in CR, they went through our luggage, read the ingredients on EVERY bottle and threw out anything that said flammable on it.
That included hair gel (non-aerosol), bug spray (non-aerosol), alcohol, etc, and they tried to throw out my wife’s CK perfume.drummerdaveb

MemberThat’s right. $1000/month.
I have good insurance now, so it only costs ME $20/month, but if I didnt, well, you can imagine how bad that would suck.drummerdaveb

MemberIm not sure about hotels w/ “neighboring” night life, but I have stayed at the Best Western (I think downtown) in San Jose, which was ok. They had a bar downstairs. Not the best location for at night. ..
As far as night life, I’d have to recommend “El Pueblo”. Our hotel clerk sent us there for night life, and boy was it. It was this huge area (4 city blocks?) of bars & clubs. I’d go again if I werent married 🙂

MemberThat sounds pretty cheap to me.
In Southern Indiana (which is NOT a high-priced real estate area), it runs about $85/sf for a low quality, low amenities home. Its in the $100/sf range for a medium quality, medium amenities home, and if you want high quality, w/ a lot of amenities, you’ll hit $150/sf very easily.
Oh, those estimates do include a 1/4 to 1/3 acre or so lot. -
