Reason by itself can not explain reason. Science cannot, by itself, explain why there is science. Reason and science can explain the existence of matter, the existence of the universe, the existence of life, but they can not explain why they exist. They can explain the existence of consciousness, but they can not explain why there is consciousness.
Science is a critical aspect of human existence, but it can not address the spiritual nature of man. In this respect, science is a dead end around which the Atheist refuses to reason.
Reason itself informs man of its own limitation and, in doing so, directs him to the discovery of a force greater than himself
Or…visa-versa. Heavy, man, heavy. Science did give us LSD, which led us to…the above. Brain candy, yummmmm.edlreedMember
Another happy thought…
Just finished eating some fresh strawberries with an unusual twist, and thought I’d share.
1/4 cup sugar
2 tbsps of good quality balsamic vinegar
1/4 tsp pepper
16 or so strawberries, larger ones cut in half
Marinade and stir once in a while for 3-4 hours at room temp.Pepper and balsamic vinegar on strawberries?
Yup!! Had them on vanilla ice cream and it was deliceous.
The recipe is also good as part of a spinach salad.
EnjoyGosh, what have I done? Now I suppose we’ll need yet another branch of the forum for recipes, after the politics and religeon branches are up and running.
Great post. Nice to meet you.

The great scientist Max Planck may have said it best:… “Science advances one funeral at a time.”
Sort of applies to politics as well! lol
Good ol’ Max. Had a latte wid da dude, Rive Gauche, circa ’67. Or not. Great point, worth a ponder. No more. Ponder.

This is a GOOD site for that. If I may, one rejoinder. Just WHERE is Costa Rica? What has been (and is) happening north and south of Costa Rica? Forgive me, but anyone that thinks that religion and politics are NOT involved in living here should wake up. Perhaps, even if its not your cup of tea, an understanding of these factors might verge on showing respect. In tone with your meaning, though, I too would like to see (participate in) a more intelligent, thoughtful discourse. Yes, even the “convinced” are capable of thought, if they can remember their (our) manners.
edlreedMember
hope that’s short for Edna.
Got me, no way I can keep up with that intellect. CU.edlreedMember
wow…you must be really old:lol:
You must be VERY cute. Glad you got the point.edlreedMember
I suppose there’s no point in persuing the second part of my question which was.. “Why aren’t Us political posts moderated?”
It’s obviously encouraged when the moderator and founder posts ‘ Why I’m leaving Canada.’
A whack job from Canada expressing his racist and political views makes front page of the website…with a Canadian flag.
Now we’re getting racist religeous remarks on threads and Canadian politics thrown into the mix…Nice going Scott.
Does anyone know of a place where I can learn about sustainable living? hehehe
I’ve often thought that one of the primo eras/places for living was Paris, in the late 20’s/30’s. Why? Its obvious you need to ask, and it has nothing to do with getting sourdough starter.edlreedMember
Not sure why there is aggression toward another poster when I am the one that could be accused as hall monitor.
It’s an observation that I’ve made and a question on my part, and I hope that nobody perceives it as me having a lack of respect for americans.
Censorship and inane righteousness is aggression.edlreedMember
Ronny….I agree with you……I have said several times before….this forum is about retiring to Costa Rica…..
If you want to cuss/discuss political views….go to another forum.Bob
San Ramon
Hi Bob. Living in Costa Rica is only for retirees? The reasons people come, and the baggage they bring aren’t important? Did being hall monitor in high school give you a power complex? Oh, thanks for making this site more interesting.edlreedMember
Yeah – sorry well I get over heated when I think of a man that sent thousands of people to war and caused countless injuries and thousands of deaths for his own vanity and to make money for Haliburton. Not to mention the how many billions of dollars wasted? If I was a Texan I would demand that everything with the Bush name on it be destroyed.
Again, the irony. The man got 100 million votes. He and his pop were VERY transparent, YOU knew where they came from, and the ilk he represented have done quite well. So…what’s the bitch, ‘eh? Oh, those 100 million didn’t vote FOR, they voted against? When is that gonna change? Maybe when folks recognize that capitalism is NOT democracy. Oh, please raise you hand if you voted for Junior twice. Come on, no one can see.edlreedMember
No man is an island!!!
Whether we like it or not…we will make a decision for someone else. If we ever made a decision for our family, our job, friends, it means we made a decision for everyone else.
And those “everyone else” will make a decision for you, me…whether we like it or not.
Yes, I believe to be responsible for my action and own life, but I do not rule out to make a decision for everyone else and those everyone else to make decision for me else if necessary.
However, if we stop making decision for everyone else and everyone else stop making a decision for us 100%, then the world will halt, the human evolution will end.
The only time a person stop making decision for everyone else is when he/she is the only living creature on this planet.
Lack of common sense and lots of idiotic ideas is the not way of living the 21st century.
Sounds lofty, till a moments thought is applied. Name me an individual, concept, ism, or government that is qualified to tell me (make decisions for me) how to live my life? I offer the three monotheistic religions as prime examples.edlreedMemberSo, first line, not bad. Admirable, even. Isn’t that enough? No, of course not. All those kids are sick because its their fault. Well said. Don’t they know about agua pura? Isn’t “free enterprise” a catalyst to their other (in your words) problems? Why worry about polluting and poisoning when WE provide them jobs…sometimes. Could the dearth of Safeways, and proliferation of Big Macs in their neighborhoods have some effect?
Kordan, I sense a sense of conscience and community struggling to get out. Could you champion that? I’m no saint, and yes, I don’t do enough. I am, however, sick and tired of castigation and character assassination as a political platform. Especially in these kind of forums. It paints a picture of the person (not the topic) that smacks of totalitarianism, and in my mind anyway, allies that person with the very things they profess to detest.
I champion the idea that people need to take responsiblity for their own lives and stop making decision for everyone else. I almost never went to the doctor when I was a kid- and I never see one now.
Children arent sick in the US because they have no health car–they are sick because theu eat GMO food, dont excercise, eat processed food, drink poisoned water and live in poluted cities. Not counting vaccinations with mercury
However, based on what I know–I wouldnt put much hope in this guy,
After all–it cost 500 million dollars to put him in office–you didnt pay that and neither did I
So he owes someone at least 500 million favors.

Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I’m not sure about the universe.
Albert EinsteinHow ironic these so called “patriots” are that character assassinate a president that inherited a pile of crap, all in the name of their own agendas (read pocket book). What IS it you want? You have voted in incompetents and folks whose whole agenda is making the rich richer, and talk with pride of the crumbs you have gathered following their lead. YOUR money earned thru YOUR hard work. Total advocation of watching your neighbors children suffer and die because they don’t have health care, yet not one word about the 400+ Billions allocated to the D.O.D. (not counting the currently in vogue Special Appropriations of billions for EACH of OUR wars). Again…what IS it you champion?

edlreedMember
You are right ENOUGH said, jeeessshh. thank you. Buenos!
You are welcome. Humility is one step towards enlightenment.
edlreedMember
Figure out which side if the tape you are on and if you need to look it up please do so we’ll wait. The statement answered your second question and it was directed at the string preceding my first. You are so astute. Talk about being ugly and the string has long since left any intellect, glad you joined in
So, there are TWO sides, yours and…?? So we must assume you are a regressive and…enuff said.
