I’m not one to argue for either communist or capitalist “regimes”. Historically, i just note the governments overthrown by the Russians, Chinese and Cubans, and the unending attacks and attempts at subversion by the so-called Western World aimed at those governments, to include assassinations, outright war and invasion.
Does making note of historical fact make me a commie in your mind? Is making full time the pursuit of mucking in other peoples business equate to your definition of spreading freedom and democracy? Does wielding the sword in the name of the God of your choice make you righteous? Less virulent? I guess Nazi Germany was a socialist country not dominated by the capitalists, ‘eh? How many other countries have dropped atomic bombs, and Grenada? Let’s go back a little further. Trading tea for opium? Conquistadors? The Inquisition? Wow, history is a mutha!edlreedMemberJoke I heard from a Chinese guide.
The president of the US and the premier of China were in a Limo on the highway to tomorrow. An intersection appeared, with a sign saying “Socialism” pointing left, and another saying “Capitalism” pointing right. The US prez says to the driver “Turn right at the intersection”, whereas the premier says “Turn right, but leave the left blinker on”.
What is it you (or I) know of the machinations going on in CR? Your lending of your “opinion”, as a guest in that country, does not show an inkling of any knowledge of their needs or desires. Just your viewpoint that obviously does not work (have you humbled the Cubans enough?). Are you seriously and objectively saying that CR should not have political and economic relations with China? Your paradigm for world “harmony” fails, and continues to espouse the same ol’ crap. What in their actions suggests they aren’t acting in their best interests, and I ask you again, what is it, exactly, you are afraid of?edlreedMemberAre you aware, imx, just who the US has maintained diplomatic/trade relations ships with over the last 100 years? For what purpose? And to the question at hand, just why are you so aggressive in denouncing the Costa Ricans’ right to have trade and diplomatic interests with anyone they want to? To be more succinct, other than your own particular bias, just what business is it of yours? Somehow any notion of your “paternal” concern gets lost in your arguments and obviously slanted point of view.
edlreedMemberIs it always the reaction of agenda driven bias to presume how another people think? A clear plan? Where in the world do you find “a clear plan” for the future? Please allow ANY people, anywhere, to extend the olive branch and enter discussions and actions with ANYONE that peacefully improves their existence. Just what is it you folks are afraid of?
edlreedMemberI’m not a fan of that great liberal, Clinton. Talk about a friend of big business. Just how many countries did that “liberal” attack? But amidst all the gruel that has come out of Bush’s vocal chords is his proudly proclaimed “fact” that his administration had put more minorities in their how homes than in any other administration.
How did he do that? Gee…
So, all those who have been so pleasantly surprised at the ridiculous inflation of value in their own houses (I hesitate to use the term “home” since they have become investments) and used that to pay for the kids college or perhaps a more exotic vacation every year…Welcome to day one.
To all of you involved in that obvious Ponzi scheme known as the stock market…Hello.
Now is the time for hard work and a shutting up of the agenda driven money mongers. The life style of this country has not improved under their steerage, or do we not concern ourselves with the youth of the US turning into mall rats with no idea where the capital of their state is. Or Europe. Certainly the disintegration of the family unit can be attributed to this drive for more toys.edlreedMemberNo, Sir, I don’t know the God of the Christians, Jews and followers of Islam. I do know the Old testament, from which they derive their beliefs. Curious, no, they pray to the same God. As for asking questions, explain the God of the old testament. Explain the “Princes” of the church. Explain the Inquisition. Want some more questions? Want the answers?
Ooops, sorry. Questions, much less answers, don’t occur to those who have “faith”.
Be a good person, sir. Don’t bandy and classify those “on your left”, or for that matter, anyone.
And where did I malign the average “HARD” working person? In your characterization, YOU are the only average american, which is in itself a pretentious misnomer.edlreedMemberI’m curious how the role of the “individual” fits in with this god and american dream stuff. Why does your social context have to include either? As far as I’m concerned, socially, we owe each other good heart and good intent. That’s it, and keep your crusades and dreams where they belong…in your own heads. I find the purveyors of your god and the American dream are smack square in the middle of this energy driving greed and destruction.
edlreedMemberDo you even begin to understand how condescending your approach is, Imx? You back up half your “points” like a cop lying on the witness stand…”I don’t know, but…”. You justify repetiitive use of sound bites as attempts to communicate with someone you undoubtedly consider inferior. “…isn’t that all that Americans can understand these days?”
Americans? All we can understand?
There are times you actually impart some wisdom to this site. For the most part, though, you need to please respect the obvious intelligence and integrity you are just insulting by your display of your own lacking grace…and knowledge.edlreedMembergrb, once again…a turn from fascism, or your capital gains protections. Just what is your lifestyle choice, amigo. You present yourself as intelligent, well-read and an informed family man. Yet you keep popping up with these gems. You’ve written off your children, your “beloved” status quo and declared yourself a prisoner in your own home. Now this response to a common sense statement concerning the fascist leanings/bent of YOUR president. Just where is the threat to what the US used to stand for? Its in our backyard and he’s digging up his lucre. He’s prepared for the inevitable.
edlreedMemberI hope your name suggests an open mind. Perhaps you don’t know about the Hawaiians in the World Court trying to get THEIR country back? A paradise literally stolen by armed United States military force for the benefit of Christian missionaries who had brought GOD to their shores.
It is not MY country (yes, I’m a US citizen and military veteran) that is putting military outposts all over the world. It is not MY leader who is embarassing everyone with his ridiculous views and smirks while people die and go bankrupt.
Is any of this current military and economic situation a surprise to anyone that pays any attention at all? Have we all not looked (or lived in) those masses of tract homes appraised for ridiculous prices and made the obvious conclusion in our own minds? Have we all not witnessed the breaking down of the independent lumbermen, fishermen, unions and farmers, while “our” country deregulates and they are swallowed up? Are we not all aware of the education “our” children are receiving? They can’t spell, don’t know where Washington, DC, is…but have you noticed the amazing similarity between their video games and the inside controls on a tank?
The status quo in this country is if you have calluses on your hands, you are a fool.
This is not by accident or fate…and you both know this. Yet…yet…Bubba is still your president, and if this process is going on in this country, you “exploring” still hold the stance we are a force for the betterment of the world?edlreedMemberDarn, I hate it when I get my butt whipped so bad in a debate grb. Well thought out response. But then again, what else is there to say, it all seems so obvious.
edlreedMemberAh…I see said the blind man. grb, your “prisoner” conclusion was easily understood without a reiteration. I’m alarmed by your “formula/model” and “status quo” perspectives, and what’s conveyed (at least to me) is what certain Germans were “concerned” about and “feared” round about 1944. And where does the failure lie then? With all you got going, to quote “Those of us…who have carefully planned for the inevitable”, you state that your children have neither the education nor work ethic to maintain your beloved status quo…nor, apparently, the survival skills necessary without your accustomed privileged sanctuary. Wow, such honesty. You ARE a co-conspirator in this lunacy. I think that the mind set and “status quo” you are seeking in Latin America might be found in a country such as Argentina. Why don’t you leave these ticans alone.
edlreedMembergrb, are you the prototype of the people who would be helped (besides the looters) by a government bailout? A prisoner in your own home because of the PROVEN artificial value placed on it by your apparent co-conspirators in this Ponzi scheme and their criminal manipulation of the lending industry? Is that YOU?
There was a time when the well being of this country was indicated by the ability of a young couple to get into their own home…in an honest and straightforward way.
What exactly are you saying in terms of respect about your neighborhood, home town, and the life you have led for 16 years when you now regard yourself a prisoner there?edlreedMemberGenghis Khan simply raped, looted and stole. He couldn’t conceive of making Wampum out of thin air.
Can anyone spell “Ponzi”? How bout a tough one, derivatives? And under this IPO/dot.com is…?? My gosh, nothing!!! Quick, get in fast, tell your neighbors, then get out.edlreedMemberOh, did I say…”Thanks”?
