Well installed screen doors (aluminum, sliding) pretty much keep any type of bug outside.
Depending on season and climate, one or the other bug tries to invade homes. Big ants (not the cleaner ants) love to make their nest in closets and other dark and hidden spaces. Smaller ants like to invade electronic equipment (printers, telephones etc.) because it is warm inside (always unplug printers etc. when not in use)
Once I found a scorpion skin in my closet, so actually he changed clothes and left LOL. Once I had a baby tarantula in my rubber boot, it bit my toe but it was not too painfull (I am not allergic to any insect bite).
In 21 years in Costa Rica I may have seen a total of 20 scorpions, 20 snakes, 20 tarantulas….not too bad I think.
The number of bad people we read in the newspaper every day is way above that.

I have always eaten a huge amount of raw salad as part of my diet every single day but in late November I gave up all animal protein – all pork, chicken, beef, cheese and all dairy products and I gave up eating lamb which I adore…
I still cook the other foods for guests etc., but I am now only eating fish for protein and my grocery bill for December was half of what it normally is ….
Scott
PS. For New Year I also gave up all alcohol and cigars so this could be interesting…
CONGRATULATIONS 😀

January 31st 2013
elindermullerMemberDo U.S. unlocked phones work in C.R. at all or do you have to get it somehow modified or programmed ?
Because if I look at Amazone, a phone that costs at ICE 700 $ I can buy at Amazon for 250 $, for example.
A friend used to import used Motorola Razr´s , fix them, unlocked them, and sell them. But he told me once that, if I buy an unlocked phone in the U.S. it still does not work in Costa Rica. Is that true or did he only want to make more business with his Razr´s ?8 years ago I bought a Motorola phone on e-bay in Germany and it worked perfectly in Costa Rica with my simcard.
elindermullerMemberWe have tried to pay the corp. taxes for 2012, for several clients, during the last 2 weeks in December at BCR. All this time the system was down and the bank could not establish connection with the registry. Now, after January 1st. they want you to pay not only 2012 but also 2013, you can not pay each year separately. How tricky and dirty is that !! Many clients have sent us the money for 2012, including the fines and interest, but they wanted to wait to pay 2013 at a later time. Now they have to wire more money, pay more bank fees etc.

Cost seems to be the major issue. So far, water purity has not been a problem, but, as demand rises in rural areas, it could be. Contaminants from cow manure and pesticides will eventually get into the water supply and cause problems. Chlorination will be the solution.
Chlorination will not remove pesticides and other chemicals. It only kills bacteria (E.coli etc.). Cost is not always the reason for lack of chlorination. In our case, it is “the voice of the people”, they ask us continuously NOT to put Chlorine in the water. And so far our water quality is excellent. We have bought the equipment for chlorination, and Chlorine Tablets a while ago, but have not installed and used it yet.

I do not eat anything without salt 8) I hate tasteless food. The day salt disappears from the planet I will probably drop 50 pounds.

The iron, which is added to milk and some other products is there to replace that lost through menstruation. Unlike iodine, it is closely associated with cardiac disease in males and post menopausal women.
In nature, milk is only for babies (humane and animals). Once they are able to eat adults food they do not need the milk any more. Nature provides tons of food for women to satisfy their need of extra iron ( check it out on google) without the need of buying box milk or other pre-fab food with artificial iron added. There is also natural iodine-containing food (seafood and fish, some veggies). A blood test every once in a while will show deficiency of any kind (thyroide hormones, anemia etc.).
elindermullerMemberAt schools in C.R. the CCSS dentists visit once per year, and they put FLUORINE on the kids teeths 👿 I do not allow them to do that and my kids deny to open their mouth when the doctor comes with the drops. Our dentist in Tilaran says my kids have the healthiest teeth he has ever seen. Well, I did not feed them sugar and candies when they were small, and they got plenty of mama´s milk 😀 So I guess there is no need of that extra portion of fluorine-poison.
elindermullerMemberThis is funny, they seem to be working on the page, mine came up yesterday and today there is nothing showing.
I think it will be due by the end of January, after that date you will start paying those tiny fines.
Attorneys should know more…
elindermullerMembergo to:
https://www.rnpdigital.com/index.htm
and click on “Consulta al impuesto de Personas Juridicas”
at the next page where it says “Cedula Juridica 3 101 ” you type in the last 6 numbers of your corp. number in the empty box and click on “entrar”
it already shows the amount for next year.
By the way, it is more then I had expected !! They calculate the tax over the “salario base” which you would think is the minimun wages required by law. Well, it seems they use the wages of an engineer or so…..
elindermullerMember
i buy La Serenita brand sea salt — it has no added fluoride or yoda. or, i buy pink himalayan salt. i would never ever use that stuff in the stores with the blue top. that is table salt with both fluoride AND yoda. and some sea salts have it added, too. you have to read the labels.
Where do you get the Serenita salt ? Have never seen it in Tilaran.

How recent is your information, maravilla?
This is true, I am member of the local water board and we have also been ignoring this law for years. We test our water on a regular basis and it is the best water you can imagine. But still, chlorination is required by law and we will have to start soon.
elindermullerMember
I second that motion
It was a message to you I lost, I will give it another try after I finish with all my christmas cards and other stuff on the “Christmas-to-do-list” in a couple of days.
Merry Christmas 😀
elindermullerMemberThis may not be the right place to write this, and it has been in discussion before, I know…..
Dear Scott
could you PLEASE extend the LOGIN time to an hour or so ? Or not limit it at all ? Or create an automatic “save to draft” or such thing ? I try to type fast, or write on a word document first, but I do not always remember to do so because other forums do not have this short login time and one gets used to be logged in forever. I just lost a large PM (cry !!!)
