I recently (June 9) traveled with friends to the airport from their farm south of Dominical between Cortes and Palmar Norte. As you know, the main highway, through the mountains, was closed because of the many mudslides from the heavy rains. Therefore, we had to take the costal route through Jaco, Quepos, Matapalo and Dominical. Even this road was not passable a few days prior to our trip. If you have ever traveled that route, you know that the road from Dominical to Quepos is unpaved, VERY rough and very slow going. In addition, many of the bridges are narrow and allow traffic only one way at a time. Since the main highway was closed, this road was the only north-south route and there were long lines at each bridge waiting to cross. Fortunately, there were policemen at the bridges directing the flow of traffic so it was not as bad as it could have been. Our longest wait at any bridge was about 30 minutes. All the bridges and roads were open, but there was still plenty of evidence of the flooding. Altogether, it took almost 7 hours to make a trip that normally (according to my friend) takes about 5 hours
