Use SKYPE to make your international calls from computer to computer: its is free. You can call with Skype from your computer to any (mobile-) phone in the world. Much cheaper than the rates of the phonecompanies.

Is there a shop in Costa Rica where you can buy these ? Or only by mail ?

When you are here the first time all “gated communities” look the same. But there is a big difference in “condominium” and “residential”.

Not only in price but also in laws and regulations.

We keep it as simple as possible and we have this only available in our community (brand new modern apartments in Alajuela). We charge an abolutely normal rent. You rent, and if you want to buy it, you buy it, if not: you don’t buy. We cannot make it easier I think.

If you think you can make further profits with it ? No problem….

We allways read that everybody recommends to live a while “just somewhere” to find out what place you would like most in Costa Rica. But if you rent a house or apartment and you like it, that doesn’t allways mean that you can buy it. So you have to move out.
And that is different with us.

We also have a program which could be called rent-to-own (only apartments in a gated community). You pay a normal rent, and if you want to buy the apartment, you can buy it for the average price of comparable apartments at that moment. We ask one month rental as deposit and will be refunded if you leave or buy the apartment. The minimum rental period is one year.

No speculations about possible future appreciations. No pressure on getting a mortgage or paying the apartment. No fear for loosing a high deposit (= hidden rent). If you want you we can agree a purchase price at the moment you start renting.

In fact it is just renting, and if you like it, you buy it….. And you have the time to discover Costa Rica.

The world became smaller and smaller as we could travel easy and have more time and money. They call that globalisation. The world is changing but not everybody likes those changes. Americans should not complain about “a huge problem in California” if they do they same in other countries. Some countries protect their land to foreign owners (India).

We have to get used to the idea that some day GM and Ford will be owned by Toyota (for example). The world is not like it was 40 years ago when everything and everybody seemed to have its own place.

A: they probably have a very good job to Costarican standards and get well paid (far more then the minimum).

B: indeed we are not talking about the 200k+ houses…..

What is the best a man (or woman) can give ? Time of his life. Time is the most valuable a human has, you only live once. So nobody is able to pay this, because in fact there is nothing more valuable. Every salary would be to less.
    This is the filosofic part.

If we speak about a minimum (by law) this means a minimum to avoid further abuse. Some people think a minimum means that paying more is not allowed. That is not true so if you pay more you are not ignoring the law.
The minimum wage laws are to protect labourers for employers who try to abuse them.

In “more developed countries” it is hardly impossible to hire a full-time maid because the salaries and taxes make it very expensive.

If you think the population in such a development in Tres Rios is representive, you are wrong. 15% of the people in CR is very poor, 10% is doing very well and the rest is middle-class. Ticos who can buy a house of $ 200,000.– belong to the “upper-class”.

Don’t compare Costa Rica with the US or UK, Costa Rica is escaping from its label “third-world-country”. Changes will need more then one decade.

And as long we are happy to have a maid in the house for one buck an hour, we will not contribute to improve this country, neither does a double tax on real estate.

And the “perpetual tourists” who are working here (incl. real estate agents): profiteers and pocket-fillers.
Let’s hope mr. Arias will soon come with sharp regulations about this.

NO, even if you buy a $ 1,000,000.– home this will not count as an investment for the residency law. Your investment has to add something to CR, it has to generate work, labour etc.

Why don’t you go with 2 cars with both a mobile phone ? You friend keeps driving one kilometer ahead and warns you when there is a roadblock, so you have time to stop and turn or take another road.
Or get your car transported on a car-trailer.

No,no, no….. no monthly fee for this kind of “jokes”. Why ? (A) The Country Club raised the prices mainly at the end of the sales. So now they are doing every buyer a big pleasure by telling them that the prices have raised. Maybe they would have had more problems if there salesmen had to sell the condos with these higher prices. (B) If these current prices are real market prices the experienced developer did a very bad marketing-job, he could have earned a lot more. (C) Very easy to tell that somebody makes “a truly 107% profit” if he hasn’t paid in full, a (very) little bit childish.
    Don’t take this too serious……

First of all you will need a visa…. Without a visa you can not get any employment, you will be a tourist, and tourists are not allowed to work in Costa Rica. If you want to work (employed) and know what you could earn please have a look at http://www.ministrabajo.go.cr/Macros/Salario/Salarios%20Minimos.htm
And don’t forget: as long as you are tourist you will have to leave the country every 3 months for 72 hours.
    Good luck….

Just right next to Costa Esterillos, on the same road, there is 80ha land for sale now. This was a former scam (have a look at “the masterplan”) but it took some time before it really looked like a scam.
Will Esterillos become famous for scams ??? Let’s hope not, the future will tell us….
