Hola to all. Just another starving Realtor in sunny FL….the Naples/Fort Myers area is almost non-existant. Sellers are having to get very realistic. it is hard for many to realize last year is GONE! We are putting our home on the market in Nov and plan to price below the rest of the neighborhood. Need to get to CR more than we need the extra profit. Never thought I’d say that. As of today, there are 47 single family homes on the market in our golfing community. If I included the condos there are 142 for sale. This is just one of many golfing communities! So if anyone knows of anyone that wants to trade or get a good buy, we are open to all options. Can’t wait to get back to CR.

There is a new Spanish restaurant in SJ. We were introduced to it by a family member of the owners. I did not see the wine list that evening, but the atmosphere was very nice and the staff (even the owner) were excellent. The name of it is Casa Juanillo. They do an excellent jobe with tapas and paella. It is 100M from Santa Teresita Church. Address is 23 Street, 11 Ave., barrio Aranjuez. Bon appetit!

I just returned from CR and missed this thread for a while. I live in the Fort Myers area of FL, am a full time Realtor and have one listing in Lehigh Acres. Lehigh is considered by many to be a “last resort” for housing. Some of that opinion is because of the items mentioned above, i.e. lack of planning/zoning, lack of sewer/water in some areas, and some of that is because it is so far out from the work areas and the roads were never developed to handle the amount of commuters.

With all my heart I do hope Costa Rica does NOT become a Lehigh Acres! CR is a beautiful place, but will remain so only as long as there is managed and controlled growth by entities that truly care, not just care for $$, but care for the environment. PLEASE, NO LEHIGH IN CR!!

Marilyn, I am also using Roberto Umana. Here is some of the info:

His office is just across from the Hotel Don Carlos in San Jose. I think I have a fax number if you need that as well.

Yes! That is the site. Thank you for the help and also the feedback. Was the quality of construction something yu saw or something someone told you about? Just curious. My husband & I thought the prices might sound too good! Again, thanks. Gee Gee

I believe you get what you pay for….yes, I would pay for quality help. What I don’t know is what is a fair price or what is too much, or is it too little? Your right, each family will be different and have different needs, so prices will vary according to the needs.
This forum and the whole WeLoveCostaRica site has been extremely helpful to us as we start the process. In fact, we have made mistakes already, but I THINK fortunate enough (with help from others, like yourself) to undo the mistakes and get on the right track. I am finding we just have to make somewhat of a “leap of faith” and trust a few that seem on the up and up. Most of the folks we are NOW dealing with have come from this site, your book, or from someone on the forums that have actually made the move. I did find a section in your book where we could check attorneys/notaries to see if they had suspensions.
There are so many different sites and so many “experts”, it does get a bit confusing. Thanks.

Scott, is there a specific place you recommend to check out not only ARCR, but others offering help with relocation to CR? Is there a list that you have compiled for attorneys/notaries that you personally know?
Seems like lots of folks want to “help” you move, but do they follow thru? Thanks, Gee Gee

It does sound like we will be on the same tour. We are looking so forward to it. I do not believe we are doing the ARCR tour. George recommended an attorney (same one we will hear on tour). I have made contact with him today and am gathering all the “stuff” needed for the meeting with him. When do you plan to move down; or have you made plans yet? Have you already started your process thru ARCR? Where in the US are you from? We are in SW Florida. Plan to go down on 6/23 or 24th. Have not confirmed as yet. We will look forward to meeting you. Our names are Jamie & Gee Gee Hathcock

CC, another question for you. Have you located storage facilities in CR?
    Thanks, Gee Gee

I can appreciate the “mixed bag” of emotions. We are going thru some of the same and we have not gotten to a definite date. Still much to do here, sell the house, wrap up business, etc. I think we will try to get down in June and meet with ARCR, open bank acct. and try to get in George Lindquists tour. I would love to hear what you learn from your movers. We are still debating about the auto issue. Seems so expensive to bring one in, but the prices seem pretty high in the country also! Did you consider driving down?
Do you know where you are going to settle? Let’s stay in touch. Gee Gee

Cindy, I just applied to ARCR and will probably use them as well. How many trips did you have to make to CR for this process? It sounds like 2. I didn’t realize you needed both US fingerprinting….thought they preferred Interpol.
Did you guys move everything from CA to CR? We are getting estimates now of just how expensive that might be.
Your answers have been very helpful

Thanks Cindy. Did you apply while in CR or had you started the application from US? What made you decide to use Banco National? Who did you use to help with the paperwork? Thanks for the help.

Thanks, that was very helpful and I will try to find your other dicussions in this forum. This has been an awesome place for “honest to goodness” real life help! Makes it a tad bit less scary. Again, many thanks.

David, how long ago did you move to CR? Did you ship container to east or west side. Was it a nightmare to get through customs to retrive your container cargo? Please share some insight into how the process worked for you. We had originally considered moving our things down, but some other sources (don’t know if they actually had done it or just read about it) made it sound like next to impossible. Thanks for your insight.
