Prices are very reasonable and the earthquake coverage seems to always come with your basic homeowners package. I have been quite surprised. 5 years with INS and currently with Lafise. There always is a deductible but it also is reasonable.
gkbizMemberIn Costa Rica of course!

gkbizMember
Yes, they offer the same service, but thru airbnb travelers can find a room to rent as well as an “entire house” vacation rental. VRBO and Homeaway are,I believe, now the same company, and they, like Flipkey and other companies, offer entire houses, condos, guesthouses, etc. for rental, not just a room or two in someone’s home.
Yes you are correct. You rent your entire house. I am listed with HomeAway/VRBO. It is a yearly contract paid up front. What is not being answered by someone renting out their home or room with AirBnB is what AirBnB charges and withholds? (commission, taxes, fees ??) The money goes through them unlike HomeAway where the owner decides how payment is to be made. So what/how much do they hold back??gkbizMemberThanks for the reply. The attached link was really interesting. You did not answer if communication is available in English. Since I have never used the app, I don’t know how the app communicates with the USER.
gkbizMemberMoody’s and all the other credit rating agencies were less than useless during the world’s worst financial crisis and gave nobody any notice of the ENORMOUS problems to come…
Maybe after making some big mistakes Moody’s have smartened up as some good businesses do. You are referring to past history. The business community wouldn’t rely on them again if they didn’t have credibility and usefulness. As an aside, only Wall Street which helped give you a good start in Costa Rica is back to the same old stuff. See The Week, this week’s cover story.
I agree that CR is in real financial trouble so probably foreign investors will be hit with more new taxes AGAIN!!gkbizMember
We will be spending three months in Costa Rica from beginning of next year and we are planning on renting a car for the entire time.
I though I would check and see if anybody know of any particular rental companies that offered better deals for long term rental. We are flying in/out SJO
Thanks
This is the most expensive time of year. On top of rental you will pay min $13/day mandatory SLI insurance & $ 1.95/day license fee. Also, if SUV, it will be more for insurance! The rental fee is after the above 2. I do this same time of yr for 6 weeks and it ain’t cheap. Some Credit Cards will cover the collision damage waiver max 30 days (3 contracts necessary). Good Luck but be ready for the shock. Beware of the bargains where you get a 4 yr old car with 200,000 km driven on CR roads. Breaking down in CR ain’t fun and could be dangerous!gkbizMemberWas having same problem so I called BNCR for support. Answer was that this problem is happening to users in North America (outside of CR)only. I followed the instructions they emailed me and the site worked again immediately.
Tried to cut and paste to post on WLCR but the included images would not show. Send me a private email and I will forward the BNCR “fix” that they sent me. It is for PC’s and not Macs.
You can also call them (I use Skype to their telephone) and they will send you the solution directly. 506-2211=2000. Ask for Support Cliente Anglaise (support in English).gkbizMember
Sky (out of Mexico)provide a very good service with a variety of channels, including BBC. Installation service is excellent. Their top-choices ‘UNIVERSAL’ subscription costs only $54.90 per month. Compared to the local cable service ‘Supercable’ Sky’s choice’s are a 100 percent improvement.
What happens to SKY when it is rainy, stormy or cloudy? Are there install and equipment fees? Is there a minimum time for your contract with them? Can you cancel or suspend? Where can one get more info in English?
Thank yougkbizMemberI am sure there won’t be adequate signs to help tourists arriving on late flights who need to get to a hotel in Sabanna (near the new stadium) for example. Can someone describe how one would drive there?
I bet the rental of GPS devices at the car rental agencies will go up dramatically when all of this kicks in!!gkbizMemberIf you have a contact at any of the car rental agencies near the airport, MAYBE they can help. Your vehicle will not be covered. They also have shuttle buses to the terminal.

Read the article by Randy, thanks. One situation is not addressed. I am not a temporary or permanent resident but I do have a bank account at BNCR. I visit CR as a tourist and go to my vacation home. Legally, this home is owned by an S.A.(Costa Rican corporation). The bank account is in the name of the SA and I am the legal shareholder representative able to transact banking functions on behalf of this SA. The Bank even provides a debit card to use in the ATM machine. Would I need this DIMEX card? My cedula, personeria and passport were necessary to do the bank set up but now I only need to show my passport when doing transactions at the bank. If I do need DIMEX, how would I proceed with my tourist status?gkbizMember
”Eduardo Saverin was born in São Paulo, Brazil, to a wealthy Jewish Brazilian family, and was raised in Miami, Florida. So happy that you made sure to point out to all your readers that Mr. Saverin is Jewish!!! Does his religion make a difference to the story? Obviously it does to you Scott.
gkbizMember

I have tried numerous times – if anyone out there with time on their hands can type out step by step instructions for me I would greatly appreciate it!
So far I have tried clicking the `change password` box under the Identification box and put in a new PW but it tells me it is incorrect.
A friend does it by NOT clicking the change password box, I guess, but that didn`t work either.
Its a pain in the butt, let me tell yah! LOL
BE CAREFUL!!! At BNCR, if you try several times and fail, they lock you out and that opens up more problems where you have to plead for some bureaucrat to unlock your account. You may already be in that situation if you are going nowhere on the site. The BNCR has very good English support. 2211-2000, ask for Danina Dixon and she will guide you on the phone.gkbizMember
Why does it have to be a Siamese ? There are so many beautiful “normal” cats around, don´t be a racist, adopt a “zaguatito” :D
Why do some prefer German Sheppards and some Poodles? Guess the breed characteristics are different for different breeds!!!
