Barry who manages the San Jose office and Charlie that handles all goings on in the warehouse are both great people to deal with and understand the meaning of customer service. I recommend this company highly.

Reverse this for getting airport to coastal highway….Which exit (name??) do you take from the Airport to do the cross country drive to the new highway by Santa Anna? Have they installed signs to direct you? I know this is against CR gov’t logic but I thought I would ask.
gkbizMemberIs the highway now open? Will be back in CR mid Feb and am not aware of the status as of today. Thanks
gkbizMemberIn theory RONY, you are correct. But not speaking Spanish or understanding written Spanish (the small print on the ticket)presented a real problem for me, the Gringo who in this case was leaving CR one week later. What if I had to appear in some type of traffic court? The unknown consequences of the ticket were too great.

This brought a smile to my face. A few months ago , I was pulled over a few KM south of Jaco by 2 of the areas finest traffic officers. Reason:passing on a double yellow line. They knew exactly where to wait for the suckers. After much discussion together, the officer that spoke English came back to my window and started mumbling something about some “police health benefit fund” and if I would care to donate. Well, I certainly felt goodness in my heart and gave them 10,000 colones for their “charity”. The officer quickly told me not to make the donation visible to passers by as he snatched it discreetly from my hand. Don’t misunderstand I am positive about CR or I wouldn’t own a home there. That being said, a one week tourist visiting the beach and rain forest has no clue about everyday living for gringos in nice houses and what they are encountering. You don’t find the ladrones issue discussed on the travel info sites writing about a 1-2 week stay. You do find it discussed among full time and temporary residents who have taken further steps by putting down bricks and mortar and encountering serious problems that are getting worse. We try not to wash our dirty linen in public. Pura VidagkbizMemberEPA (I think there is one near Alajuela) in Escazu carries a great model that will easily fit a laptop plus more. It includes hardware for mounting. Price a few months ago was about $180. No membership required and good selection of other models also. Be SAFE in 2010.
gkbizMemberWhat about swimming pool in the yard?
gkbizMemberHow can you get a Canadian passport without submitting the required official birth certificate to Canadian gov’t necessary to get the passport?
gkbizMemberIf it is Las Olas you are considering, the project seems to be abandoned with only a couple of concrete walls of their “beach club” standing in an abandoned, fenced lot just behind the Low Tide Surfer Bar. I personally met a “gentleman” in Escazu who was selling all contents of his home and clearing out of CR in a hurry. He claimed to be a major money-silent partner in Las Olas. He claimed that all investors got their money back. I wouldn’t bet on it. Said he would be back in 5 years when the economy gets better. Sure bet!!!
Several houses in Costa Montana and Costa Esterillos have been designed by Mussio and are already built. In my opinion, there is way too much unfiltered glass in these homes that lets all the heat in and doesn’t keep them properly insulated. He never heard of double pane insulated glass. The homes can be entered in Architectural Digest but I would not like to be paying the A/C bill.gkbizMemberIf you have an account with Charles Schwab Bank (online banking) in the US,they have a free Platinum ATM card that you can use anywhere in the world. They pay all fees. You withdraw $$$ or Colones in CR at any ATM machine and do not have to worry about getting a good exchange rate as they use the current daily rate. The experience has been very positive for me and the card never gets rejected anywhere
gkbizMemberThere is a good American one in Jaco. Is that too far? Let me know. You could go surfing while wife is getting “manipulated”.
gkbizMemberNo plans yet for storage. When I read some of the other stuff about robberies in CR, maybe the storage place will be cleaned out on my return?? (many a truth is said in jest)
Any suggestions for storage? My wife suggested your place. Ha Ha! or in Spanish Ja Ja!
