My wife and I want to come down to CR in mid October of this year (2012) to visit for about 10 days to get a quick “feel” of the country and look around at some different areas to see if we would be interested in moving down in a few years. I know we would need to do more trips to finalize exactly where we would like to buy but this is a first trip to see if we even like the place.

    Hola Andynjen,
I submit that taking my Regular 3 day, 2 night, all inclusive tour is your very most efficient way to begin your “due diligence”. Please read all of the recommendations from past guests on my website to see how they have valued their time with me. Feel free to contact any of them by email for their current evaluation.

I hope some of the WLCR readers who are past guests will respond as well with their updates.

Your most efficient and practical way to find out if CR may be as close to perfect as can be found is to take my Regular 3 day tour and possibly an add on tour or two.

Please go to my website http://www.costaricaretireonss.com and read the many recommendations from past guests who are happy to reply to any email inquires you may want to make.

If anyone knows of an individual or company that offers introduction tours let me know[/quote]

If you will go to the references page of my website at http://www.costaricaretireonss.com you will see that many folks value my tour for the emphasis on objectivty and renting before buying.

You can try and save money by fumbling around on your own and listening to the infinite number of expats who consider themselve experts or, you can take my tour and fast forward you research with facts.

I am sorry I do not offer a tour in the first part of April. There is still room on the late March tour.

Renting before you buy is certainly sensible – although finding a quality rental is unfortunately not always easy – and, as you probably know prices are all over the place And contrary to what costaricafinca says, not all properties are “very difficult to sell.”

I would like to suggest that it might be more accurate to say that: “it is is easy to buy property here but depending on your pricing, your property and the area in which you are located, it may not be as easy to sell…”

The same would apply in any real estate market anywhere in the world.

Scott has got it. Renting is the best way to go but, good rental values are as difficult to find as is good value purchases.

As far as a “slow market” I have sold every house I have built within 2 months of the roof going on. There are lesser value houses in this area that remain vacant for over a year.

Contact my friend Ed Sheldon, he has begun importing them for the many of us who realize the total utility of these.

You state you have 7 years until retirement. TAKE YOUR TIME TO COME HERE AND DO AS MUCH “DUE DILIGENCE” as you can. There are sooo many other areas of CR that have, IN MY OPINION, better climate, better infrastructure, and better access to private and public medical facilities. This is why I would NEVER consider living East of the Orosi Valley. Properly priced and competent builder/developers will not be raising prices much in the next year.
The most successful WAY for you to begin your “DUE DILIGENCE” is to check out http://www.costaricaretireonss.com

WHY WAIT? The few extra dollars you will get from SS by waiting take away from the opportunity to LIVE NOW.

Hola John, I am very surprised you have not contacted me. If you read the “recommendations” page of my website, you will see how the very most practical way to accomplish your goal is to take my tour. http://www.costaricaretireonss.com
Hola Scott, is this against the rules?

I believe the amount of time to get proper permits for drilling and using water from a well is a function of the location. I have applied for and received permission in less than 3 months and have a great 24 gal/minute well on one of the projects I am developing.

I have not been keeping exact records but, in my 8 years of doing my tour for people thinking of living here, the following list (in order of number of moves) is where the people who have moved here are coming from:
    1. Florida
    2. Arizona
    3. Canada
    4. Texas
    5. California
    6. Other

My SWAG (Scientific Wild Ass Guess) as to why the major volume is from these States is; most of these people have moved before. They are less fearful of leaving their comfort zones.

The answer to the question of how I am able to have this tour business is; I am a permanent Resident with “no restrictions”. This means I am able to work in my own business. I file my income with both the United States where I am still a Citizen and Costa Rica.

The very best way to jump start your research is to take DELETED tour. Read how past guests value their time with me on the “recommendations” page. Feel free to contact any of them by email to see how they are doing now.
