Yes, it is possible to use your AT&T late model GSM phone in CR. But be warned, it’s $2.40 a min to call the states or the guy next door in CR. For $3.99 a month AT&T will let you call CR from the states and only charge you 25 cents a min..
The rain in the Golfito area is alot like most of the Central and Southern Pacific Coast. It’s fairly dry during the day with some afternoon and nighttime showers from December thru May. It rains a little more from June to early September. The real rainy months are late September till early December. It’s alot cooler durring the wet months. Even in the wet months you will usually have dry or sunny mornings. Once in a while you can get a day or two of cconstant rain. I think it’s the intensity of the downpours that sets off the southern zone from other areas.

I bought a small farm outside of Golfito two and a half years ago. It’s one of the best things I’ve ever done. The Golfito area is the real thing. Very very tropical, very few gringos but with all the amenities that you ever need. It isn’t very developed like all the beach towns to the north. It’s like stepping back fifteen years. Believe me it’s begining to be noticed. Golfito is surrounded by small mountains with primary forest on one side and a large calm bay on the other. There are afew small gated developments in progress or a fixer or rehabed “Banna Rpublic” style home in the american zone. World class fishing in the Golfo Dulce or world class surfing about an hours drive. It has banks, grocery stores, a good hospital and 4 to 6 flights a day from San Jose. It’s about a 6 hour drive. If you are looking for big fancy hotels or casinos forget it but there are lots of small clean inexpensive hotels in town or on the bay. The southern zone and corcovado peninsula is the last of the truly pristine areas. I can go on and on but I won’t. Go visit and see if it’s for you.
