since “legal” is the focus term here. how do you go about verifying if the agents that split commissions with you are legal or not??

do you go on their word???

    grasp the world

    that is a great handle

23 years old wow.. you do have the world in front of you.

as a business owner and also a warrior of my own living and doing business here for the past 10 years. i am 50 years old.

    here is my advice:

    1. do NOT i repeat do NOT plug into the local economy by opening a retail brick and mortar business. costa rica is broken internally and the only way you will ever get things done here unfortunately is thru Chorizos and such which already puts you behind the proverbial 8ball.

now I love living here.. I repeat living here is wonderful and has a slew of positive benefits.. but owning a business here is NOT productive. you are better off living here and usining the internet to do business. much like our moderator acott. smart guy he is.. which is why he is still in love with costa rica. this is the only way I would recommend.

start an internet based business with NO retail location. costa rica has yet advanced to thepoint where they harass online businesses effectively although that may change in the future. use a business model selling information or services or even real estate this way you can generate a good income and still hev no one locayy know what you do for a living.

    2. also embrace the concept state above… embrace frugality. and live below your means.. never use credit and alsways be debt free…. credit is one of the tools big business and goverment use to keep you in that enslaved state of mind.

    3. surround yourself with successful like minded people.. this is an important one.
David…. Might have more to do with the timing of the weekend and the usual due date of your payment. But then again… paying you in year 2009 and making it taxable NOW does make some sense. This way 2009 has 13 payments and the tax is due by April 15 2010…. or perhaps Uncle same is just in the holiday spirit and wanted everyone to enjoy the New Year with a little extra green in their pockets!

    Happy New Year!
you know everytime I read about someones story about social security checks motivates me to push forward to arrive at a point I never have to worry about things like.. my social security checks being deposited.

    happy new year

I wish that most americans would get the heck out of costa rica. I myself am an american and have lived here for over 10 years.. and most of the perks that have attracted me to costa rica are all slowly changing. much due to the U.S. migration here and all the attention that it brings along with that migration.

    what a sad time

it may be time to look for anotehr country.

hey who knows.. maybe in a few years nicaraugua will be the place.. or maybe chile.. any suggestions for a future home

whatever glasses you decide to wear regarding these viewpoints are all just that I guess.. opinions.. i like obama and think he is a very intelligent man and will be probably be a better preseident than many but in the end its all bullshit.

I do not think personally any sitting president should get that award.. if only for the fact that there is usually a lag time before truth comes out. so only after time when a president leaves office do descrepancies reveal themselves. if at all.

I just cannot beleive that with all the good that is being done around the world obama is the one that they can come up with. ??

I guess they have the right to choose whoever they want. its just now the Nobel Peace prize is another silly award.. almost like the MTV awards or the golden globe awards lol…LOL

I am happy and thank god that I had the good fortune to one day pick up a book that changed my life and now, live here in costa rica. corrupt.. yes.. but 100 folds better than the good ole us of a.

I think scott should come up with a new award for vip members that contribute most to the discussion boards.. i mean why the heck not..

call the the first annual “Pura Vida” award and you can design a statue and even have ceramonies

this whole thing is truly a joke. when I heard that obama won the nobel peace prize i had to research the prize itself because I obviously did not have a good understanding of this.

the picture that came to my mind was the immediate comparison to people like nelson mandela, martin luther king.. etc.. comparing these great people with obama.

obama is a very intelligent man. but who is this guy that he has won such an award.

regarding the people that are so anti foxnews.. just a comment. these opposing views are very important to help stimulate the mind so you can come to your own conclusions.. if it wasnt for fox news like orielly and such.. we would have only one sided viewpoints from the mainstream media..

I like oreilly.. I dont agree with his views many times but he has the cajones

Glenn Beck.. i have watched his program a few times.. I respect his courage to speak his mind.. with some of the things that he states.. Id be nervous..

it would be the same illegal activety since you are an american.. costa rica residency means nothing when you travel.. now if you have a costa rica passport.. that would be a different situation..

10% seems high.. but maybe they deserve it. i think here its 3 to 5% depending.. lets ask admin.. how much comission he gets for recommending properties here on his website.

Im sure it will fall under the norm.. 3% to 5%.. NOT 10%

you have a valid point and in regards to these types of mass killings. your right.. i have not yet heard of these things going on here. Not yet and hopefully not anytime soon….

but they do happen here on a smaller scale.. there are stories of people killing thier loved ones or crimes of passion or whatever and they wind up killing themselves at the end.

just for research read the dario extra everyday for 3 months.

we shall see as this country progresses as more and more events begin to take shape here regarding crime and how ineffective law enforcement here is.

criminals for lack of a better word have to be seeing how good the odds are here for commiting crimes and getting away with it.

i love this country and it saddens me to see this going on.. it even saddens me worse to see whats going on back in the good ole U.S. of A.

    oh well..

i think if you compared apples to apples.. population size etc.. i would have to say crime is higher here than in the states.. but i guess it really boils down to where you live.. thats a big factor.. a friend that owns a hotel in san jose 2 men entered the place with guns and robbed him.. this happened yesterday.. at 4pm in the afternoon. i have lived here and have lived in new york and in my years here i have been exposed to alot more crime than in my entire life.

i carry a gun here.. im mean i actually carry a legal gun here.. i would have never thought i would be one day carrying a gun.. go figure…
