Thanks for sharing. My husband and I would like to make the same trip from Ohio next year, and I wondered how important Spanish would be. Motivates me to study harder…
Beth.HuffnerBMemberCase in point, in my business (12,000+ employees), MANY, MANY opt out of company-sponsored health coverage, because no matter how cheap we try to make it for them (very cheap), there’s a certain age group (about18-30+) who think they are invincible and do not need any coverage whatsoever.
Wish there were stats on how many of the supposed 45mil this encompassed…
Beth.HuffnerBMemberU should be proud (and I mean it).
I have a rental house listed on http://www.vrbo.com and http://www.vacationrentals.com. Both have many properties, and I prefer VRBO because many listings have availability calendars as well as reviews from renters. Start looking NOW, as Christmas in Costa Rica is very popular.
BethHuffnerBMemberYou hit the nail on the head, Maravilla, re the US corporate world. Shoot, I’m a FEMALE in upper management and really have to watch what I say/do to my subordinates…males & females alike.
But…away from work most of us normal women here up north enjoy some A-Tention! Shoot, this morning I got a suggestive compliment from an 85-year-old man! Guess he figures at his age, he has nothing to lose. So I winked and gave him a thrill.
Seriously, I don’t think that MOST USA women are so uptight, but agree that the “Latin” attention may take some getting used to…for some. I’ve found that the Gringos I know living there in CR have fallen into the mold very nicely and I fully expect them to address me “mi amor” or “My Love” if their Spanish is not so good. But My hubby just doesn’t quite understand why other men would call me “my love”! I’m always trying to explain…Another thread, perhaps:).

Columbus, OH, USA for now.HuffnerBMemberMaybe I’d take “Diego” seriously if he knew how to spell?? Where’s Lotus when we need him?
HuffnerBMemberTU, Scott. A chick’s-opinion: Apparently there are some guys who are unable or incapable of handling smart, ambitious, real wage-earning, strong (good-spelling:)hee-hee) women. Glad my Husband isn’t one of them… Hasta Luego.
HuffnerBMemberGT- Cute…you’re just waiting for someone to point out that it’s “misspellings” not “miss-spellings”…um, I THINK!
HuffnerBMemberBe nice, David. It’s not his fault at all…it’s the Bush-Greenspan-post 9-11 capitalistic rich-get-richer administration that’s encouraging this kind of irresponsible tax-minimizing behavior.
:).HuffnerBMemberYou’ll pinpoint us quickly. We’re just north of Hermosa Palms, south of the “bungalows” in one of the “quatro casas” on Playa Hermosa. There are 4 homes there(thank God, no mas), and we’re 1 of them. I Hope we’ll meet…do U surf there? The Jungle Surf is one of our fav hangouts, but I hear Tom sold?. Hope to meet some day.
HuffnerBMemberLOL2XXX! Lotus, I hope we “bump into” you in Jaco some day. My hubby & I will be living part-time in Jaco (Playa Hermosa, more specifically) beginning January. If “perchance” we meet, we are “Jack & Beth”…

November 9, 2006 at 10:54 pm in reply to: Need a romantic beachfront resort in the Jaco area #179749HuffnerBMemberScott’s right…forget about snorkeling. But my last word: I LOVE Villas Caletas. Alas, it ain’t on the beach, but still well worth it. They’re putting in a magnificent pool that I’d pay to hang out in. It may be finished now, or should be any day now. Why not spend two or three “romantic” nights there and then go toward Jaco. Lotus thought of Club Del Mar just south of Jaco…it looks very nice. Good luck! PS I have a house on Playa Hermosa if you’re desperate. It’s great, but probably more than you need, at 3 bedrooms. We have some days left in December.
HuffnerBMemberYou might be thinking of Club Del Mar. Haven’t stayed there, but their restaurant is very nice.
HuffnerBMemberYep, we’re south of the stilt houses and the road is paved, courtesy of Hermosa Palms. I kinda miss the potholes…made people drive slower. There are about 5 houses under construction just north of your place…check them out for ideas, they’re going to be beautiful and killer views, as you say.
It’s rumored the pig farm has been sold, and there are plans for condos and hotel. You’re right…we buy because it’s beautiful and secluded, and before you know it it’s Ft. Lauderdale, thanks to us Gringos. But further rumor has it the rest of the beach is concession land and can’t be developed, as it’s nature preserve. I selfishly hope that’s correct.
A couple management companies come to mind…Jorgi at http://www.era-realty.net, Daphne at Pacific Properties, Rock Management, all in Jaco…just check them out next time you’re in town. Or maybe our property manager would be interested. -
