2BNCR… You keep mentioning the “one” pre-approved program you’ve found. Can you give us a little more info or perhaps a link to a CR government/business site that gives more details? I checked into many different reforestation programs a few years back and found them to be a bit expensive with a very long term ROI. And as someone else had stated the property was normally in a very remote location making management and possible habitation a problem. I’d also like to see where it says that you can work at ANY job…
Fractional ownership programs seemed even more expensive since they simply were priced at the dollar investment thersholds to meet the government requirements. But the underlying investment were not really worth the stated investment. In other words… because the government sets the investment requirements at a certain amount the “program” required your investment to be in that amount. Even if your interest in the fractional program was in only 5,000 sq/mtrs of trees.
I’d like to see more info on the program you’re talking about. I still have an interest in getting involved in reforestation and have some property on the OSA I’d like to work with. Residency isn’t an issue for me so I’m more interested in the the mechanics and details of the reforestation program itself. As well as management.
ImxploringParticipantBut that’s the plan Scott… as long as they can keep the “hysteria” going for the latest (insert your choice here) threat… they keep you looking to them to fix it… even if it isn’t broken! Making you think you really need them and all their silliness! All the while keeping you so busy that you don’t see the big picture and how your future is being stolen.
Sad to say it’s almost like the movie “The Matrix”… humans being kept alive in a pretend world to fuel the “machines”… in this case the machines are government…. which much like the movie were conceived and built to help improve mankind… only to take on a life of their own and enslave the human race!
Funny how science fiction becomes real life… but then again… Jules Verne showed us that many years ago!
ImxploringParticipantIt’s really starting to look like last year’s Taco Bell food scare was more of a threat than the swine flu! Somebody is getting rich of this latest churn… it’s sad to say… but you really can’t trust any source these days… be it government or the media!
ImxploringParticipantIt’s starting to sound like the “science” is nothing more than a sales pitch and part of the next big money grab out there! I’d say the drug companies, mask makers, and soap producers have had a nice little run the last few weeks! Another few BILLION dollars tossed into the giant black hole! Money we’ll have to payback at some point!
I guess after the stock market, commodities market, homeland security market, insurance market, derivatives market, and real estate market have already been churned for all they’re worth folks have to find another way to make money… so now we have the health threat market…. anything to take the money you have out of YOUR pocket and put it into THEIRS!
ImxploringParticipantAn investment in a reforestation program may get you over the residency issue… but then there’s that other problem… making a living to support yourself here in the meanwhile.
Do your homework, the cost of investing in such a program legally and properly may be a lot higher than you think… and it’s an investment that will not generate any current income or return. In fact it will require more ongoing investment to actively manage and maintain your trees through to maturity. Depending on the project you take on the return may be off as many as 15-20 years. So paying your bills, putting a roof over your head, and eating will still be a very big issue!
Good luck…
ImxploringParticipantAll lies? I guess I don’t have to keep washing my hands 45 times a day as president Obama told everyone last night!
The big question is… why did he throw another $1,500,000,000 at this “problem” if it’s all a lie?
Washing ton is completely out of control these days… BILLIONS are tossed around like the zeros don’t count!
I did get a good laugh when the issue of closing the border with Mexico was brought up… like there’s even a CHANCE they’d ever be able to do that!

ImxploringParticipantAgreed!
ImxploringParticipantPeople may not CHOOSE to get the flu and die…. very true… but then again… the government doesn’t prosper from their deaths… it’s a little different with smoking… those that make the choice to smoke… and die… do make money for the government!

ImxploringParticipantLet’s get back to reality… Uncle Sam and State governments kill more people on a monthly basis than will ever die at the hands of terrorist! Being in bed with the tobacco companies and drawing all that tax revenue from it’s sale makes government a partner in a much larger crime! Who needs the flu… just head down to the corner and buy a pack of smokes… support government… pay your taxes… and die prior to getting anything back from the system!
ImxploringParticipantChildren are a blessing… however some folks look at them as a blessing in ways that you and I may not… How about “Shortcut Baby”?
ImxploringParticipantI guess a 10% commission isn’t all that unreasonable when the underlying property is grossly overpriced. And I’m sure in the good old days there was no problem finding lots of buyers as Barnum put it! I also get their mailings… all the “secrets”… only to find they’re all available for free on sites like this!
ImxploringParticipantToday the US government looks at retirees as a liability… not an asset. Think about it a minute… Casinos “love” winners… they parade them around hoping others will try to become the next big winner… knowing full well that the vast majority will fall victim to the odds, lose their money, and fuel the casino’s greed with their dollars.
The US government needs tax revenue… and LOTS of it… looking at the lastest Fed borrowing and you’ll see where this ride is headed… retirees take from the system… they don’t add to the tax base… therefore… there’s no incentive for the government to see people enjoy a comfortable retirement… it doesn’t suit their needs.
Between the cost of underfunded social programs (SS/Medicare) and the loss of revenue when a senior worker making top dollar is replaced with a worker being paid less the revenue curve it headed down… the baby boomers will attempt to retire at their current pay rate being taxed to death…only to be replaced with new workers making much less. That’s not even touching on the greed these companies are showing in the treatment of employees.
Retirement (a realistic one) is completly out of reach for most in the US these days… and make no mistake about it… that’s the way Uncle Sam wants it… and needs it to be! Funny how were now in the midst of the greatest economic mess since the great depression… just as all these baby boomers are entering what should be retirement!
ImxploringParticipantI think there was a pretty good article here about a husband and wife that moved to CR with an older parent that’s now being taken care of at home with a much lower cost!
Not really a bad idea… and if quality health care is nearby… it’s a great idea!
I also seem to remember a project here in CR that was developing homes and a community designed for just this type of plan. The houses were clustered, nicely laid out for older folks… and there was an on site nurse and caregivers as well as a community center and meal plan. Kind of a tropical “assisted living” setup with private homes. It didn’t have the look or feel that many of these places have! Seemed like a really good idea!
ImxploringParticipantVery good point Scott! As much as we don’t want to see changes that adversely impact folks…. let’s be real about it… $600 wasn’t cutting it… and $1000 really isn’t a number that most folks will have a problem meeting. Besides… as you point out… if you’re living on less than $1000/month… chances are your not reading this forum from the cave you’re living in sans electricity and running water.
I know there will be folks that will claim they’re doing it… but for those thinking of making the move to Costa Rica and living the “simple” life… it’s better to be able to live below your means rather than find yourself unable to meet your expenses after making the big move.
ImxploringParticipantGood point…. and how about all the folks that refinanced over and over as prices went up… using the “paper profit” of their home as a revolving charge account! Taking money “equity” out to buy OTHER things… toys, cars, vacations, bling, cosmetic surgery, and all the other things that really were NOT important!
Anyone that thinks that this economic “downturn” is going to be short lived is a fool… the party and fantasy of the last few years is going to extract a real cost from the world’s future. You ain’t seen nothing yet! Entire lives, businesses and families have been based on the pretend economy we’ve seen over the past decade… now it’s time to wake up.
Those of us who were smart enough not to get caught up in the frenzy will be ok… but with the politics of today’s world it seems that our “leaders” want those of us that avoided the party and did the right thing to pay for the misdeeds and outright CRIMINAL acts of others… and that’s where you and I have to be concerned!
The great depression will look like a camping trip that had a little rain mixed in… compared to the next few years.
