MemberI bought property 5 years ago and before I actually moved here, I had my attorney who represented me in the purchase pay my taxes and keep my CR corporation in order before I moved here full time. I still have him take care of this for me at a small fee so I know it is done properly

MemberI am in the process of getting all the information of Pensionada status from an Attorney who specializes in getting this done. One other benefit not mentioned but brought to my attention was that if I were involved in an automobile accident with my vehicle, I would probably be treated more positively with a resident status vs. tourist status. To get this Pensionada, it is very time consuming (6 months to 1 year) and costly. About $3500. for myself and wife. Then about $500. per year for both of us. This is with him(attorney) handling for us each year. The $3500 does include his fee to handle the entire process.

MemberYou excitement is justified. I started coming to CR 10 years ago and have now moved here for good. My only advice is that the first time here would be so much easier if you hired a guide from CR. You will see twice a much in half the time and go to places that you would never knew existed. If $ are a factor, I understand, however’ I still believe you will waste time and money. Do read up on everything you can before you come, regardless of a guide or not. This website will educate you as much, if not more than any book. (Books
are necessary also.)
Just keep asking questions on this site.jafranz
MemberI am retiring and moving to my home in Quepos in 2 weeks. There is not anyone that I tell about our move that doesn’t know of CR or knows someone that has moved to CR. CR is becoming very popular and interesting to the US community. Much to my dismay I really would rather CR stay the way it was 5-10 years ago when I first came. However, a great thing will not go unnoticed. That is why most of you and I want to live in CR. Also that is why values have risen at unbelievable amounts. Thats the good and bad. Pura Vida

MemberMy opinion is, if you can’t live without your dog for 30 days, stay home.

MemberIn the US, Cost per sq. ft. is so ambiguious. You can build a 2,000 sq. ft. home for $100.00 per sq. ft. or $ 200.00 per sq. ft. It all depends on what amenities are included. I.E. , Permits, Lot, and all other unknown costs. I am a certified building contractor from the states and buyers, buying for a cost per sq. ft. are looking for trouble unless they really pay attention to the specs. My advice is , don’t rely on cost per sq. ft.

MemberI sent a deposit to Paragon properties to purchase a lot about 1 !/2 years ago . I didn’t like it and they refunded my money in about 2 months. However, I have not seen any development since then on thee property. I hate to say this, but I feel that Americans are taking advantage of the great opportunity to invest in Costa Rica. I have since purchased and have had great experiences with developers other than Americans ( I are one)
Be very careful and not send money to anyone that you have not personally met and seen.

MemberI would rather have an allergy in CR than the US. Why, because the Dr. and people at the pharmacy are much more caring and and friendly

Is the flight from San Antonio Direct or thru Houston?
Also I would be interested in what you plan on doing for leaving CR after the 90 days.
