    David,

From what I have been seeing, investing in Costa Rica real estate might be an option if you don’t need immediate liquidity.

Of course, you’ve probably already considered this and I’m sure you know much more about the market there than I do.

    Just a thought,

If you want to spend the time and really master Spanish, Rosseta Stone is the best, but to learn a LOT in a very short amount of time, I recommend Visual Link.

I have used them both and I really like Visual Link — at least, for my purposes.

Dave, you didn’t show your other cat and your new dog. They won’t be happy that they didn’t get in the movies.

It was nice to see your place again. After staying in your guesthouse for over two months, the video brought back a lot of wonderful memories. Everything there was beautiful and relaxing just like you explained.

Your guesthouse and your hospitality were both so much better than anyone could imagine. Like everyone who visits Costa Rica, I will be back.

    Tell Marcia hello for me.

P.S. You also didn’t tell about the beautiful coffee growing on all four sides of your house or the waterfall across the gorge that I admired every morning while I was sitting on the front patio of the guesthouse drinking my coffee.

$17 also gets you to Ft.Lauderdale from 25 cities. The same link in the above post will show your which 25 cites.

So, for $34 (plus taxes and fees) you can get to San Jose (and $34 will get you back).

Thanks everyone for all of the information and help. I found out basically what you all told me — that is that they take US dollars, or colones and they accept a Visa card (debit or credit), but they do not accept any other type of credit card (MasterCard, American Express, etc.).

I like the idea of paying with dollars when I arrive. I will do that the next time.

Everyone on this site is so helpful.

    David,

Another option to supplelment you income is to have an Internet business with a US address. There are a lot of opportunities (and a lot of rip-offs) when it comes to having an Internet business.

If Alicia has an interest in working as a graphic artist, there is a lot of graphic artist work and a lot of writing that is available on the Internet. You could do this type of work without actually having a website or a business.

    Check out these two websites:

To find freelance work for writers and graphic designers, go to

    http://www.elance.com

To find frreelance work for computer programmers and coders, go to

    http://www.scriptlance.com

At these sites people post work they want done and you bid on what you will do the job for. The person who posted the job will look at the qualifications and the prices bid and select who he wants to do the work.

If this fits your experience and your interest, this could be a possibility. I have used both services from time to time to have creatative work done.

    Just my two cents worth.

While we’re taking about good stories, I got sick a few days after I got here. I must have looked really bad because a Tico outside a store asked me if I needed him to take me to the hospital.

Later that night I was feeling a lot worse, so I called a doctor and he gave me the name of some medication I needed to take and two shots I need to get. I went to the faracia and got the bottle of medication and the pharmacist took me in the back and gave me the two shots — total bill US $9.00 for the medication and the two shots.

The next morning I was feeling great and have been every since. The doctor called me at 9:00 a.m. the next morning to make sure that I was alright. When was that last time a doctor in the US called you to see if you were alright?

    I love Costa Rica!

Diego, your article reminds me of what Will Rogers said a long time ago,

“Thank goodness we’re not getting all of the government we’re paying for.

Here’s another way to do it. Sometimes I end up writing a long post and didn’t think it would take long when I started, so I didn’t do it in Notepad.

So, if you have been writing a long post and hit the Preview button and it takes you back to the log-in page, hit the back button and go back and copy your long post. Then log in again and paste your long message back in the message area. That way you won’t lose anything.

If you’re reading a long article or long message, you will get a 2-minute warning before you are logged off. Just hit the refresh or hit “ok” on the warning message and you will not be logged off.

Total cost of 4 shots was $143 US dollars.

The shots are not necessary, but I went ahead and got four shots yesterday. Hep. A&B, Typho. and a Td. I will have to get another Hep. B in 30 days (before I leave) and then one in six months when I get back, but my thoughts are that having the shots frees me to travel on short notice to interesting places and they might help even in the US.

Thanks to the comments from David and everyone else on this site, I have booked a tour with George for the Sept. tour. I missed the one in Aug. because it leaves early Sun. morning on the day I arrive (Sun. Aug. 26th.)

I have booked David’s guesthouse, so I think everything is set. The information and help on this site is wonderful.

Scott, you have a very helpful website here.

In the email message I received confirming the order there was a way to contact the shipper. I sent them a message requesting that the shipping address be changed. That should take care of it.

    Scott,

Maybe I’m totally missing something, but I went back and placed the order for the five bags of coffee and it never asked me for a shipping address (that I saw). I thought maybe it would when I clicked on the “Complete the Order” button.

I looked real carefully as I filled out the order form and I never saw an option to enter a shipping address — only a billing address. Did I do something wrong?

Sorry to be a pain, but that coffee sounds good and I want to get some.

What is your business and work experience in Canada? Most businesses are build around supplying a human “want.” Note that I did not say a “need.” People buy what they want and not what they need.

Also, we all make our buying decisions based on emotion rather than logic. I am an engineer by education and would like to think of myself as a logical person, but I know that most of my buying decisions are based on emotion rather than logic and on want rather than what I need.

I don’t need to go to Costa Rica, but I will be visiting there during the months of Sept. and Oct. because I “want” to.

I am saying all of this to say that what works great in Canada will probably work great in Costa Rica. What do you enjoy? What could you look forward to doing every morning?

One last point. Read Timothy Ferriss’s book, “The 4-Hour Work Week.” When I asked for the book at my local book store, the guy behind the counter said, “Would that be in the fiction or the humor section?”

    Just my to cents worth.

Yesterday I found $187 round trip fares from St. Petersburg, FL to San Jose on American Airlines using Hotwire.

The fares were $106 plus $81 taxes and airport fees for a total of $187 and they were for round trip. This was for travel in Sept. and Oct. I didn’t check for any other dates.
