Thanks for your reply. The only problem is that the radiator is leaking and will not make it there to repair….even with constant refills it would be hard on the engine. So I’m left with a bus ride at this point.
Thanks.
Michael
I personally think you are being had… even with installation. You need to go to Guacamaya. Closest for you is probably the one at the rotunda just past the Parque de la Paz as you are headed towards Escazu from Zapote. They have tons of spare parts for everything. Good prices. Also, Are you sure you don’t just need it refurbished. I wish I could come up with a name of a reputable Radiator Shop but I can’t. They are all over the place so shouldn’t be to hard to get a couple more estimates. I would definitely shop around.
jmdayMemberHello David
There is no doubt the mechanic is gouging, he says he just happens to have one in his shop and can put it in immediately.
My guess is he has some heavy Christmas expenses coming up.
Needless to say he is not my mechanic any longer.
I’ve checked on the price in the U.S. and Canada as I previosly stated and it is about $250.00, but I have not received the shipping and import costs yet.
Thanks for your input.
MichaeljmdayMemberHi Scott
I just want to say what a great site you have made this…truly first class.
In answer to your questions NO I do not speak fluent Spanish just learning 2 or 3 languages in my life took it all out of me I guess…not much call for French or Thai here.
I live in Turrialba.
I have many english speaking Costa Rican friends that do help with the more technical needs I run into though.
Any suggestions you have on parts will be greatly appreciated.
MichaeljmdayMemberHello Scott
I used to use the earthquake site every day, however now my Norton Anti Virus shows as unsafe, so I checked further as to why and found that just last week it was infected with 3 Trojan Horse viruses..I checked with the site manager directly and after some hesitation on his part he admitted that yes indeed there is a problem as yet not fixed and with no date when it will be done. So please all be forwarned. I sure miss my daily update on the stae of things as I live just below The Volano Turrialba.
Best regards.
MichaeljmdayMember
my husband and i are both chefs and we don’t have any problem substituting yellow lemon juice for what’s available here, namely the sour mandarins, green on the outside orange on the inside, that are ubiquitous and about as close as you will get to the yellow lemon flavor. criollos and messinas are too limey for me. the sour mandarin is dynamite in chicken picatta, or a citronette dressing. one of the big adjustments for food fascists like us was to find a reasonable substitute for the things we can’t get here and/or alter recipes to accommodate what is readily available.
Thanks so much for your suggestions. The other problem I have is the zest…I’ve tried to get that lemon flavour from a variety of citrus here but just cannot achieve it.
However I will try your suggestion and let you know if the rind works or not…it’s great to know there are still many people so interested in cooking just for the pleasure of it.
Thanks again.
MichaeljmdayMember
Check out at a local veggie market for either Limón criollo’s or Limón mesina. Although smaller that the ones seen in North America the flavor is ‘the same’ as far as I am concerned and I use them all the time. Others may feel different…. Possibly the imported ones may be found in PriceSmart or similar supermarket, but give these local species a try.
Thanks for your suggestion…I have tried both of them, however they are not quite right for the more delicate recipes. But your suggestion on price mart is a good one..I’ll call them today.
Thanks again.
MichaeljmdayMemberThanks for the imput…I know servicing and parts availibility can become problematic and living in Turrialba there are not really any Jeep experts…I’ll kick a few more tires till I decide.
Thanks
MichaeljmdayMemberThanks Scott, I cetainly appreciate your rapid response. I’ll tell him you recommended him. Would you possibly be able to put me on to a lawyer for the transaction or would almost any be able to complete the check of current owners?
I hope I’m not asking for too much.
Thanks again, this is sure a great site you have.
