Just as an FYI to anyone researching this, I just got a quote from Ship Costa Rica (see article posted on this site) for $5490 for door to door service (pick up at my house in Richmond, VA and deliver to my house near Tilaran) exclusive of import duties for a 20 foot container (roughly 7’8″ wide by 7’10” high by almost 20′ length). This does not include the loading or unloading of the container itself. I hope this isn’t considered a commercial post since Barry from this company has an article posted on this site, and have no connection with this company whatsoever.

Since you’re living in Escazu with lots of other English speakers, I think your best bet would be to talk to some of your neighbors, people you meet at local restaurants, etc. Doesn’t guarantee anything, but at least you’ll have spoken to people who have actual experience with the people they recommend….

One of my dogs also suffers from seizures (a Chocolate Lab) and although I’m not living there yet, based on what I’ve heard about the good veterinarians there, I’d be shocked if you couldn’t get phenobarbital (what I give my dog) at most local vets in Costa Rica (or, for that matter, over the counter at any Tico pharmacy)

As someone who is planning to move to Costa Rica next year, the fact that most of your articles don’t have dates on them is frustrating. It would really be nice to know how old some of these articles are, and although I know most if not all are from the past 24 months or so, that’s a long time in Tico-land. I’m not sure whether this is by design, to keep the appearance of “fresh” content or just an oversight, but even a year (2006,2007, etc.) would be helpful…

I’m moving to Tronadora (near Tilaran) next year and was wondering if I could bring my DirecTV boxes with me. DirecTV uses that same satellite for the same programming DISH does, and I wonder if those boxes would work to receive the same 119 content? Has anyone heard of this working?
