“Some readers think that A.M. Costa Rica editors simply copy news stories from the Spanish press and translate them into English. Nothing could be further from the truth. Each local story in A.M. Costa Rica has been gathered and written by staffers here. ”

I have noticed this practically on a daily basis since I moved here a few years ago too…

My advice is to read La Nacion newspaper in Spanish, use your dictionary and or an online translator and you will learn so much more Spanish

Three examples from todays La Nacion:

    1. In today’s AMCostaRica.com GAS STATION SUSPECTED IN AQUIFER CONTAMINATION. The nation’s environmental tribunal Monday froze commercial activity at the Estación de Servicio Lago Arenal after it received reports of fuel spills contaminating the aquifer that serves the community of Tilarán. http://www.amcostarica.com/morenews3.htm

    2. In today’s AMCostaRica.com: CENTRAL GOVERNMENT WILL PAY CAJA BILL. The Caja Costarricense de Seguro Social celebrated it’s 70 years Monday at the Teatro Nacional, where President Laura Chinchilla confirmed that the government was going to give more aid in order to help the struggling health and social services agency. http://www.amcostarica.com/morenews.htm

    3. In today’s AMCostaRica.com SECURITY FIRM SEARCHED. Judicial agents and Fuerza Pública officers staged three raids Monday in an investigation of a security firm and the purchase of 35 handguns. http://www.amcostarica.com/morenews3.htm

This is the same dude who has another development here in Grecia. The good news for the developer is that four of ten lots have been sold, the bad news for the buyers is that “no hay agua” (there is no water) and the local water system says they have no plan to make it available.

The article that I liked the most that shows how pathetic AMCostaRica.com has become was the one written in late October by the Brooklyn woman Elyssa Pachico about her visit to an acupuncturist.

Here’s a few key quotes from that article that gives you insight into the infantile little mind of one of their journalists.

    —————

“But when my beloved editor at A.M. Costa Rica approached me with the chance to get a free acupuncture session from a local practitioner, I did what any broke college graduate working in the dying medium of journalism would do: I said I’d try anything once.

I show up to my appointment late.

My jaw opens. I doubt that my tampon is showing, so my only other conclusion is that Mc Donald definitely knows a little something about this acupuncture business.

He pronounces me as young and healthy. “I’d give anything for a young, healthy body again,” he says. “I’d even take yours, menstruating and all!”

I give my best fake smile. The number of times men have told me that, you can’t imagine.

When the pins are finally removed and I get up and walk around the office, I am surprised at how refreshed I feel. It’s a sensation more usually experienced when I wake up from a 10-hour nap after pulling two all-nighters in a row.”

    —————

    Ain’t she sweet?

She’s just a charmer happy to admit she’s broke, obviously has little hope for her profession, she’s late, happy to talk about her tampons, she’s accustomed to giving people fake smiles and staying out all night long doing God knows what with numerous men.

Now don’t you have a great deal of respect for her and her professional writing skills? And the talent of the Editor in hiring her to begin with?

And doesn’t she fit right in with the kinds of readers that probably read that rag? You know people like us in this Forum, who have grandkids her age? But thankfully my grand daughter would never speak or and behave like her.
