Yes and yes. However get early (crack of dawn) tee times so you don’t sweat to death and have to drink a case of beer every nine holes and bring your own clubs and golf balls – rentals are crap and balls are expensive and easy to lose in the jungle.
johnrMember
I know this is an issue talked about in the past 🙄 but, this is the last step we need to do before we arrive in July. I have contacted numerous companies for quotes etc… the numbers vary greatly. Please help with the following:
1. Does my Chase/visa card “CDW” wavier work in CR?
2. Does $1000.00(average)for 2 weeks seem normal?
3. GPS needed?
4. Phone needed?
We plan to rent a small 4×4 suv(Jimmy).
Any specific items to look out for? suggestions, help would be greatly appreciated.Steve from TEXAS
1) Typically, however you need to check with Chase.
2) No – that’s too much at this time of year.
3) Yes it’s nice to have, however, do not expect all the roads you drive on to show up on GPS – even with the CR software.
4) Yes – ATT will work damn near anywhere in CR. Otherwise just buy one when you get there with purchased minutes.Have a great trip and Adobe in Liberia is a very good rental company.

You are asking for a referral for a quality builder in that area?
Or,
You are asking for “any ideas” on how to build your home?
Scott
We have the ideas – and we are in contact with an architect So I am asking for a referral for a quality builder in that area?

Contact Paul at Osa Water Solutions – he’s worked with many builders in the Osa and would have some suggestions – fluent in Spanish and English.
johnrMemberKinda miss the $5.00 egg sammich at the Liberia Airport – and while Rental Cars are expensive, I have also never in my life seen a rental fleet take a beating like they do in Costa Rica – for this reason alone I can see a justification on the prices.
Yet – I would say it is indeed in trouble – just not the traffic I’ve seen in the past.
johnrMemberThe rising costs of Costa Rica and doing business in Costa Rica are going to cause more problems and less investment from expats and business.
Five years into our development project we are still spinning wheels because of the complexity and ever changing rules regarding development.
We now are saddled with rising property taxes, luxury taxes, corporation taxes and the insane banking rules that make it almost impossible to transfer the large sums of money that it takes to build.
More and more folks I talk to in regards to investing or retiring to Costa Rica are saying they are going to Panama or Ecuador.
Hopefully Solis can reverse or at least slow down some of these trends.
johnrMemberDouble post – my apologies.
johnrMemberWow! Nice work Carl!
johnrMemberWe are in a very remote area, and the nearest station is in San Francisco de Coyote (5.5 KM north) however they do regular patrols to the beach and if they stop by we always give them some ice water and chat.
They are good guys in our area – they have a truck and a couple of motor bikes so we get patrols quite often, especially on beach weekends.

You should just book across the street from the airport (Marriot) and take the free shuttle.
Just to avoid any confusion, and for clarification, it is a Hilton Garden Inn (not a Marriott) and the shuttle only goes to the airport and back – not a good way to see the countryside!
I’m sorry you are correct – Hilton Garden Inn. You can also buy your exit visa there for a little extra cash. I was just trying to address the hotel / center of Liberia thing. I’d rent a RAV4 and head down the center of the Nicoya and just start branching off to the beaches.
johnrMember

So now, my question – “why do you want to go to ‘the center of Liberia'”?
Thanks for the information.Well I may or may not want that depending on where I wind up booking a room when I do visit there but it seemed the best way to determine what taxi fares cost in comparison to San Jose. It was just much easier than asking “how much for a taxi ride from the Liberia airport to a hotel I can’t tell you the name of since I don’t know it myself yet?”.
As Bill stated you can count on $20.00 one way – there is nothing in the Center of Liberia except a Kentucky Fried Chicken. (Just kidding)
You should just book across the street from the airport (Marriot) and take the free shuttle.
johnrMemberDarn – I did not DVR it. If I can find the episode I will. Blonde American lady in her late 40’s early 50’s.

marcia@osatropicalpropertiesHere is a description of the episode – it airs again on January 22.
Sharon and Vee fell in love with Costa Rica after taking a vacation to Ojochal. After years of traveling they realized it’s their favorite spot and want to retire with a home in the small town. But Vee wants to enjoy the solitude of living in Costa Rica’s lush jungles while Sharon wants to be close to town to continue her passion for theater and teaching children. Now, they’ll have to find a middle ground when House Hunters International retires to Ojochal, Costa Rica.
johnrMemberI was watching House Hunters International two nights ago and the realtor told a retired couple that the airport was on the way. Buwahahahhahahahahaha!
johnrMember
Thanks for the link…I am thinking CFL is available on ESPN3, which is shown at Zi Lounge downtown Coco. I gave my Rider shirt to one the waiters there, who said the games were sometimes shown there. So if I can’t get it at home, I can just watch the game and have a beer at Zi’s…Im gonna have to temper my cheering as it sometimes gets a bit “boisterous”
I have watched the CFL and NFL games at both the Sports Bar in Playa Hermosa and Coconutz in Coco.
johnrMemberand to answer one more question – you will get very wet in October – very, very wet. Rent a 4WD.
😆
johnrMember
Hello to all,
I was wondering if anyone has knowledge of Cobano. It is in the southern part of Nicoya. It just happens to have an affordable school which is my primary concern.
The school is called Futuro Verde. I only get sketchy information on the internet, i.e., rural living, o.k. weather, etc. What is the reality of living there. Thank you.
I have only passed through it and am not familiar with the school, however it is the going to be laid back, more rural and populated with friendly locals. I would suggest a visit to check it out in person.
