    Hi Rosfreed,

I don’t think you mentioned whether your horses were mares, stallions, or geldings? Are you planning on breeding the Rocky Mountain horse? It would be so great to own a Rocky Mountain breed in Costa Rica. Most of the horses I saw when there did not look too good although I’m sure there are plenty of well bred horses there if one looks for them but, I doubt there are many Rocky Mountain horses.

I can’t even begin to imagine what it cost to bring them in. Congratulations! Hope they arrive as planned. Pura Vida!

kimyoa650-Enjoyed reading your comments. Curious as to the type of residency and if the new law for Rentista bank deposits per person are actually in effect? Also, it sounds like this is your first trip to Costa Rica and that you and your family made the decision to move there before actually visiting? Not that I blame you, our family is so wanting to get there, like yesterday, or no . . .more like we wish we had moved there five years ago. My wife and I and our daughter hope to make the move soon. If you really want some great stress free time, check out Peace Lodge, they’re a little pricey but their rooms and the environment is such an awesome experience. Hope you have a Great Time! The people and the country are wonderful!

    Hello Javier!

    Thanks for all the info!

Just a quick question: “What is the monetary requirement for “Rentista” residency for a husband and wife with one small child? Hopefully, the original $60,000.00 deposit is still applicable?

Thanks so much for your great input!

    Ben,

Hi! We are seriously looking to purchase some rural property near San Ramon and would greatly appreciate any information you may be able to provide about a good honest local that knows the area and may be interested in helping us to find property for a commission? We are planning to make a permanent move to the San Ramon area and want some acreage, possibly 5 – 10 manzanas.

We actually came down for two weeks to finalize a land deal but the realtor decided they liked the property so much that they decided to buy it for themselves. All of our time and money was for not. We’re not one of the wealthy so are looking for a good honest price that we are more than willing to pay a good commission on. If you might know someone?

If you are interested perhaps you could let me know and I could have Mr. Scott Oliver privately send you my email address or you could have him send yours? If you didn’t mind?

Thanks so much for any help you can offer!

Hi Maravilla, I just sent an email to Scott asking him to forward my email address to you. Please let me if you don’t recieve it!

I am really looking forward to seeing pictures of your new home in Costa Rica. We are still looking for land around San Ramon. It has been so difficult to find someone willing to sell to us for near what they would sell to locals, although we have found at least six or seven great deals, they have either been too small, too big, or in the wrong location. Once we saw what the so called “Tico Price” was it is very difficult to pay a middle man double or triple that amount. We don’t mind paying 7 – 10% commission but really don’t want to pay an expat double or triple. We may have to hire a person from one of the churches there to look for us (?). We are on a pretty tight budget but, still want to get around 7 – 12 manzanas if possible as we believe this will be our last home, we want to have plenty of room. We’re not interested in feeling like we’re back in the States, crowded in on every side, and we intend to have horses (which we’ve had here), greenhouse, etc. That’s just us, we’re definitely not wealthy, but with all the expats moving in we don’t want to end up living on a small patch of dirt in the middle of a huge development that builds around us.

Hey, at least they are showing your home, it should only be a matter of time if they keep showing it. We wish you a speedy sale!

We’ll be looking forward to your pictures and we’ll keep in contact so that we might be able to be of assistance someday. Have a great day!

Maravilla, I have just recently started working with Javier and I am so impressed! We hope to have everything together and submitted soon.

I hope you sell your home!

I’m still eager to see pictures of your place in Costa Rica. If you ever decide to share them I would be elated.

Hope to see you some day in “God’s Country” . . .Costa Rica!

    Maravilla,

You are so right. I just simply refuse to argue with the hate driven, self rightous remarks of others. And if the Holocaust didn’t happen, I wonder who that precious older jewish lady I talked to about 25 years was? She showed me her tatoos they had placed on her and her scars from the burning hot copper wire they wrapped around her, oh, and her very strong grip made strong by the work they made her do in order to stay alive. If you can imagine, they made her give massages to the officers, and this is what kept her alive per her own statements. It’s just horrible how so many try to make others believe thier delusions.

Just another reason to enjoy a simpler life in Costa Rica. Oh, I just can’t wait!

    Pura Vida!

Jenny, Is that a property tax bill? I read a post once that someone living in Costa Rica had their property tax bill delivered to them by someone riding a motorcycle.

Maravilla, are you living in Costa Rica full time now?

I feel so homesick, even though Costa Rica isn’t my home yet, I feel so at home there when visiting, I can’t wait to finally make the move. Which will probably still be several months from now.

Do you realize just how fortunate you all are to be living in such a great place with such nice people? Truly Pura Vida!

Sure am glad the lengthy and negative mud slinging contest is over and am very glad that Scott handled it in a very honorable fashion! I was extremely delighted that Scott showed himself to be a true gentleman! Hopefully, all parties will be civil from now on!

Sure am looking forward to some of your experiences and insight Maravilla! Please share some with us. Enjoy your new home!!!

I’m glad that I’m not the only one that couldn’t figure out the pay phones. : ) Ha! Ha! Once somebody showed me, I was totally embarassed that I hadn’t figured it out on my own. I couldn’t make a call even though I had been trying for several minutes. You brought back a good memory of my first visit to Costa Rica . . .”The mysterious pay phone” . . .Thanks! Hope you enjoy Costa Rica!

It’s good to hear it Jenny! Very few put much worship in church these days. I’m an assistant minister of a Pentecostal Church. Hope to meet up with you someday in Costa Rica! We believe in great worship services also.

    Hi Jenny,

Thanks again for taking the time to share your experiences. Yes, it does help to hear all the things people have experienced first hand, without the hype of the internet real estate ads.

My wife and I read the article you wrote about you and your husband living in Costa Rica, we really enjoyed it. In fact we were so impressed with the photos of your B&B that we thought we might try to make reservations for the next time we come down.

My wife and I are very involved in our church and are very much wanting to come to Costa Rica and get involved with some of the missionary work there. We fell in love with Costa Rica and the people, and reallly hope we can become a part of her. Your article actually got us to thinking about the possibilities of opening a B&B to help offset some of our expenses. This is something we hadn’t seriously considered until reading your article. Your place looks lovely!

We are middle class conservative americans (old-fashioned christians that really care about others). We have been doing our homework on Costa Rica and this forum and website have been of great assistance. Scott seems like a genuine “real” person that cares about others as well; much like you and others on this site.

We’re so glad to have the input of so many caring people. We are hoping and praying that we will be able to afford the move and the residency for my wife and I and our eight year old daughter. We don’t want to move unless we can pay off our land, home and vehicle and have a couple of different means to earn a living there.

Thanks again for all your help! Hopefully we will meet someday in beautiful Costa Rica!

Wow! What a great discussion! I can’t believe I missed this earlier in the week. It’s great to hear the different viewpoints.

Maravilla, that book (Living abroad in Costa Rica) is also one of our favorite books about life in Costa Rica. We must own a dozen or so books about Costa Rica, attempting to soak up all the experiences possible.

I can’t agree with you more about being thankful (or is just “hopeful”?) that the most of the spoiled, self-centered people from the States aren’t running to make the move to Costa Rica. I hope that Costa Rica will maintain it’s own wonderful culture. We are so hoping to become a part of her, to become an adopted local, if possible.

Thanks to all of you that took the time to share your experiences. I for one (reading them to my wife, which couldn’t stop laughing at times) absolutely loved reading them. We hope to hear more . . .

I sure hope the law being postponed is factual, it would definately be a prayer answered if it comes to be true. Thanks so much for the info!

Jenny, if I’m not being too bold; How do you like Costa Rica after four years there? and if possible, can you share what kind of business you’re in? Thanks so much if you care to share this with us! 🙂
