Per all the info I have received the present income requirement is a $60,000.00 deposit (for a couple and their children) paying $1,000.00 per month over five years to the family in order to guarantee the government of Costa Rica that you will be able to support yourself. Starting on August 12, 2006 this income requirement will be raised to $60,000.00 each for husband and wife and another $30,000.00 each for each dependent child. A couple like ourselves with one dependent child will have to deposit $150,000.00 instead of the $60,000.00 presently required ($90,000.00 additional). We would much rather use the $90,000.00 toward building our home, etc. We hope and pray that we make the deadline.
keithMemberHa! Ha! I really appreciate your views Maravilla! I always look forward to reading the discusssions but especially like and usually totally agree with you! I plan on moving to Costa Rica and staying for good as well, I’m just hoping to beat the residency deadline.
Have a Great Day!
keithMemberThanks so much for all of the info! Believe me it’s greatly appreciated.
keithMemberThere are some really great people on this site!
Thank you all for your help!
keithMemberHi Donnie and family! Have you visited Costa Rica yet? Visiting for at least two weeks or more is of great benefit. Also, if you will read through ALL of the postings in this discussion forum it will probably be of great benefit to you. I believe there is over 400 postings (?).
We have found this discussion forum to be extremely helpful.
Best Wishes to you and your family.
keithMemberI read in a previous post (see above) that the new president may postpone the deadline for one year. We’re hoping and praying that he will. We don’t have $150,000.00 to deposit for five years in a bank plus the investment needed to purchase and build our home, car, etc. It is our Dream to live in Costa Rica!
We love Costa Rica, just the way it is! We want to come and become a part of her, and to help where we can. We’re not rich, just old-fashioned minded, decent, prosfessional, middle-class people in our forties; but we do have a tremendous respect for Costa Rica, her people and her land. I want to get away from the American lifestyle and the spoiled, self-centered, aggressive attitudes here. I work with the public every day here in the States, the attitudes here have changed dramatically. What happened to “loving your neighbor as yourself”, truly caring about others, instead of just trying to get what you can no matter who you have to destroy to do it (very prevelent where we live). Oh what a dream it would be to live among real, down-to-earth people . . . in peace, yes even with the petty theft, the bad roads, etc. Yes, there will be trials and problems, yes they have their share of problems; but we can handle them in this new wonderfully different environment. Wow, did I get off the subject or what? Sorry about that! We just want to move there so terribly much, and this new program may not allow us to do so!
Thanks so much to everyone for their help!
keithMemberThanks for the info! Does anyone know exactly what the current law is? I have been told by at least two different sources that the current law allows a family to become residents by showing the $1000.00 per month guaranteed income for a period of five years (i.e. A $60,000.00 CD at a Costa Rica approved bank). Thanks for the help!
keithMemberThanks so much Scott, I’ll be looking forward to any new info.
Hope all is going well for you in beautiful Costa Rica? We really do wish we were there.
keithMemberScott – I totally agree with you! Martin and I discussed Costa Rica and all the expats moving there. I was so impressed with his attitude as I felt it was so similar to mine and my familys viewpoint on moving to Costa Rica to become a part of her and her people, not to bring Americanization to them but to embrace Costa Rica and be thankful that it’s possible to become a part of it.
By the way, I love your website! I’ve never been a web surfer and have never posted anything to a website before this. Yours is the first. I really appreciate your viewpoints!
I was logged into your “Discussion Forum” for hours absorbing all that I could possibly absorb. I liked so much of what I read and was shocked by some of what I read. I especially loved the discussions posted by Maravilla concerning her viewpoints of Costa Rica, expats, and really got thrilled reading her posting about her home construction, construction costs, and her attitude toward becoming a part of Costa Rica! I was so excited to hear a viewpoint that made so much sense. I couldn’t agree with her more.
My wife and I are in our mid-foties and have been investigating a permanent move for awhile now. We decided to visit Costa Rica for a couple of weeks last year and did as much research as possible. Believe it or not we loved what we experienced! Even the two bridges on the way to Manuel Antonio (so happy we crossed them during the day). Ha! Ha!
You only live once and we decided it was time we did something for others and experience a different way of life, not wanting to do the 9 – 5 until we’re old then die without any adventure or giving of ourselves. Although we now do volunteer church work here in the States.
We’re not rich, we’re middle class, and are hoping we’ll get to come to Costa Rica and become a part of this country and it’s wonderful people.
Thanks for all the help!
