Maravilla — the Bird House burned down a few years back. That was sad indeed! We spent Thanksgiving with our college kid in Anchorage, it snowed about 8 inches and was very messy. But at least down there you can actually make snowballs; here in the interior the snow is dry and just blows around. Today we are having 40 mph gusts…Have only had 2 days of 35 below weather so far this winter, thank goodness. Looking forward to some WARM darkness in Costa Rica come January…:P

Well, this may be a really silly question, but why doesn’t anyone GROW “real” lemons in Costa Rica? Just wondering.

happygirl — approximately how much will you be paying for 5 month’s rental. And you say you find it much easier than owning a vehicle. Can you give me the reasons why?
    thanks.

Having lived in rural Alaska for the last 30 years, we are ready for a change to a different “new frontier”. We have lived off the grid. We have grown our own food. We raised our kids to respect nature, each other and themselves. We have endured cold dark winters and the harshness of Alaska’s interior. We have worked, saved, invested and bought a place in Costa Rica. We will be moving there in January to begin our new WARM adventure! Upon returning to the states from our last trip to Costa Rica, it took only 10 minutes in the airport to realize we are indeed making the right decision to move south. People in Costa Rica smile, shake your hand, pat your back, and act as if they have known you for a lifetime, even having just met. That is the kind of people I want to be surrounded by, not the snobbish, rude, frowning, stressed out, pushy folks we encounter so much in the states. Thanks!

Hmmmm. One more thing to worry about? Or not?
That’s a pretty hefty fine. I wonder how many corporation owners are actually aware of this filing requirement.

The property is nearly 5 acres and nicely manicured and landscaped. The groundskeeper works every other week 5 days per week. We pay his salary, pension, etc., all legal and above the board. There is constantly plant trash, the lawns need mowing, weed eating, etc. Because we are not living there at this time, we had a person who took care of his pay, the property taxes, and other incidentals. She is moving on, and until we sell the place we don’t know what to do.
There are two homes, a nice little “guest house”, one bedroom, bath, kitchen, living room. One large 3 bedroom, two bath, large living room and kitchen home with unfinished quarters in the downstairs. We have a beautiful rancho, a small lagoon, and many fruit trees and flowers.
