Keep in mind some people are aware of areas that DID do very well in the real estate market. My husband and I purchased property (mainly for investment instead of the stock market at the time) in Southern Florida. I can tell you as I looked through court records of what people had purchased their lots for even just from the year prior. It was amazing. I would look up every property to see what was paid and when. People hear of situations like that and try to speculate the same could happen there. There is more reasons I feel that people would move to CR now than ever before from the states. It is always best to buy because you like it and would consider moving to that location and are happy with it. Not to just have an investment motivation in case it does not work out.

Isn’t that the truth. In our area the homes get more expensive but are being built cheaper and cheaper and I don’t mean the value.
    Older homes were better built.

From my understanding contractor’s and architect’s all have to be licensed. You won’t get PennySaver magazine ads or newspaper advertisements for ‘handymen’ as you do in the states.

It seems quite a few people heard rumors of a potential airport in Orotina. Possibly something like the superhighway going in. But in this case the highway actually is going in it just is on Tico time as they say. I am not siding one way or another but Scott had mentioned in an earlier e-mail regarding realtors charging to have them spend the day showing people property. Alot of people are ‘lookers’ possibly never with the intention to buy. But, will have no problem taking up someone’s valuable time without a thought. I have seen a few developer’s (not that I am heavily looking for them) that share the same practice. They want to separate the serious people from the ‘looker’s’. Remember these companies do this as a business. And I understand from your point since I am in the same position – we want to protect our assets. It is a Catch 22 situation.

This is actually a different company. They are doing a development above Los Suenos in Carara.

To try to assist in the financing arena I can tell you from being a Mortgage Broker and dealing nationwide with banks that you will basically find it impossible to finance out of the country. The best idea was mentioned earlier (home equity line) but will not work since you currently do not own property. Another idea (if possible and has been done many times) is if family/friend has enough equity in their own property and takes a loan out on their property. You both would work out your own personal payback arrangement. Obviously, there has to be alot of trust and good faith between parties. I have had situations like this a few times. If you have the right parties, it can work well. —– Just another idea when all else fails. Good luck.

What area did you build? Do you know what costs are to build along the coast area? Since the highway is not completed I figured it would be possibly more. How did you find your builder?
