MemberSorry to hear about both your dogs! I don’t have a yard where I live so no need for such things. But on or property in CR I see they are usually spraying the side of the roads and the grass just dies off wherever the chemical has been sprayed.
I get a kick out of how they tell us these various agents are safe for humans but they are able to kill off living plants or insects.

MemberI would like to have your money Scott 🙂
I apologized to Kimball, though my tart post was mistakenly aimed at him in the first place -hence his confusion and suggesting I take a Valium. lol.
I was amused by Mr. Jones post as Scott hardly pulls any punches on here…
Well I’m off to surf, we have a good swell here today, Rockaway beach is head high and off shore more or less. Looking forward to December in CR as it’s about 42* here and rainy!

MemberKimball: I think sometimes these forum posts “read” with more color than intended. Good luck selling your lot. Try crmercado as well.

Member“Remember that ‘commercial posts’ where someone is obviously trying to promote or sell something, are not allowed and will be deleted by one of our three Costa Rica Living Discussion Forum Moderators.”
Predictable response. Break the rules and some how try and rationalize they don’t apply to you. Why not just be honest about it? No need to get defensive, just be honest with us and yourself. Let me guess; this will make you even more hostile?
Kimball: I must admit I confused your response with OP. But sneaking in a commercial post is still, um…sneaky.

MemberIt is clearly against this sites policy to make commercial posts. You talk about being fair and honest in your posting, then take the low road.

MemberWhichever side of the fence you are on, open and free commentary is always welcomed by me. I don’t feel it is ever necessary to resort to personal ego driven attacks on someone. I would much prefer to read an intelligent retort to the opposing point of view.

MemberI think the key will be a balance of what is “free” and what requires “paid membership”. No one ever said accept all information on here as omniscient, but it is a great place to start. I have spent a lot of time in CR over the last 6 years and have a great network of people to assist me. But if you are just starting out here you need reliable guidance. The people Scott recommends on here may not all be angels of charity, but I bet they make sure they work honestly or else have the bright light of WLCR and it’s owner shine down on them. And I am sure Scott vets these people as well. Sure the forum is great with some great regulars, but you can get that on the CR living yahoo board as well. I think the real value of this site is the information and videos it provides of available real estate projects along with other relevant information regarding investing in Costa Rica. . Sure wanting to know how to ship, store a car, forward mail. buy meat, organic vegetables, buy a TV or furniture is important. But laying down a large sum of money to purchase a home in this country may be one of the biggest decisions you make. That is where this site can be invaluable and worth $97 dollars!! Don’t be penny wise and pound foolish.
If you are just looking to shoot the sh*t, talk politics or stir the pot a bit, you should not(and don’t have to) pay for that.

MemberLess than 10 bucks a month for all the information on this site is a deal. If you are serious about living, knowing about or buying in Costa Rica you have very limited resources for honest, rational information. Nothing is perfect, but this site is the best place to start your search if you are going to buy property in Costa Rica. Even if you don’t use one of Scott’s recommended resources you will have a solid education and a far better understanding about this country and how business gets done. From hiring an attorney to choosing a bank or real estate broker.

MemberI would only buy in Costa Rica if my motive was first for enjoyment, because you love the country. Then you can buy what you can afford with little worries about predicting bottoms. Even without an MLS to verify prices you can certainly zero in on a particular location and come up with a decent idea of value. Holding for 7-10 years or more should protect against bumps (or earthquakes) down the road. IMHO speculating on a condo purchase is a very risky proposition in a small under-developed country like Costa Rica with many shortcomings in the banking sector for starters.
Certain properties do seem to trade fairly quickly, but I know of many that sit for over a year, even in beach communities. If I were looking to “roll the dice” on residential real estate I would be looking in the battered (prime/beach)sections of the US. Perhaps we are not at the bottom yet, but IMO betting on the US makes more sense than an investment in Costa Rica if you are purely looking for ROI.
I am speaking from the perspective of a small investor making a single purchase. Of course if you have very deep pockets and are simply diversifying that would be a different story as well.
I love CR and own there and bought in a prime central pacific beach community for $6 us dollars a M2. I got lucky as that price is looking pretty good. But that’s not why I bought.
I think Scott is affiliated with some very good people and if I were to make a large investment in this country, I would certainly reach out to all of them. If you don’t personally live here and have a network of trusted people, it can be like walking through a minefield trying to get honest, sound advice…even for the most basic questions.

MemberKevins transfers was terrific shuttling our wedding guests from SJO to Esterillos. They were on-time, professional and had good vehicles. Everyone including our Midwestern “skeptical of Costa Rica” guests loved them. They also were right on time to take a large group of us to Manuel Antonio for the day.

MemberYou have to take the basic liability insurance at Dollar it is included in the price they post on their site. You can decline “collision” and pay with your credit card that offers it, quite a savings. Actually you can decline it even if you don’t have a card that offers it, but then of course if something happens you will be 100% on the hook.
Because of the big savings we always decline and use a card that offers collision, in 5 years so far no problems.Keep in mind that if the car is stolen or totaled or has other damage not covered by the basic insurance,; they will charge your credit card. Then you must present a police report, damage estimate etc..to your card company to be reimbursed. You can request a copy of the policy from your card company and read it over, there are limitations such as no coverage if an accident occurs on a dirt road…

MemberI thought the same thing sprite. If they did sell all those lots for all that money, why not just build the thing out? Looks like this bunch really are just a bunch of thieves. Sorry to say at one point I sort half stood up for them, but time has proven any hope false.
