Here’s what I said: “It’s a bit ironic because it’s the wealthy and to some extent US small/medium business owners that really need the illegals to provide cheap/efficient labor to maximize there profits(like slavery in the past). I simply pointed out that in my opinion immigration is used as a political distraction, it is a general observation, if you disagree fine. Regarding slavery: No where did I state it was “the moral equivalent” of using illegal workers, I did point out that it is a way for business to maximize profits, again if you disagree fine. Now if you do a little research on how illegal farm workers, restaurant workers etc are treated you may find some of the conditions these people work under pretty deplorable, then again maybe you wont?. Now before you get your panties in a twist I didn’t say all-I understand some are treated very nicely and are grateful a US farmer or meat packing plant will hire them.
Roark I won’t argue about this stuff as I have found it’s a waste of time but I won’t let you spin what is written in black and white to serve your single pointed mindset. It is like trying to explain to a “born again” Christian that there are other cultures with there own ideas about religion and God and perhaps they are not all going to burn eternally in hell for not believing the same as they do. I have a diverse group of close friends across many strata of the political, religious spectrum and what we all share in common is a mutual respect for each other.

I don’t know sprite, I find it hard to fault US citizens for dreaming, I lay the majority of the blame at the doorsteps of that 1%. The media and education system has created and shaped the mentalities of 99% of the population. How can someone think differently/critically/rationally if there source of information comes from the mechanisms that drive policy? Well you can but you have to go “outside” the box and educate yourself with a diverse and balanced diet of information from various sources. That is one of the the beauties of the US you can go outside the box and think freely and learn without prejudice, but most don’t. It’s like when you read a study of a pharmaceutical product or cell phones stating everything is hunky dory, then in the fine print you read the study was funded by Merck or Nokia? Even on this site if you dare make remarks critical of the US you can be called an America hater, so I do find it hard to blame the citizenry he/they are products/victims of the system, People are more concerned about illegal Mexicans than the fleecing of the American public by there government and that very elite 1%. Scott who needs a kitchen? Just buy one of those two burner jobs you hook up to a propane container…I have cooked some very tasty Gallo Pinto on them.
I have driven past Nativa a hundred times, but never inside. It seems like it was always a “pricey” project? I have looked over there various projects on the web though.
As a real estate broker in Manhattan I can tell you mortgage money is tight on our little island. I had someone who use to work for me call up and ask if I had ever heard of this happening; the day before her closing the bank called up and said it had no money to loan. In 16 years in this business I never heard that one?
I also have enjoyed the freedoms of living in the US, but can not agree the “good out weighs the bad”.

What does this mean to “hate America”? Does it mean to hate the dirt or the architecture? The infrastructure, people? The current or past administration’s? The restaurants, beaches or mountains? It’s a curious accusation to lob at someone you have never met, outside of a few posts on a forum. I don’t see anywhere in any of my posts that I state or imply that I hate America. I don’t think you can disagree with some of the historical facts I have posted here? I have not expressed any political views why assume I’m a liberal?(I’m not for the record). Imexploring what are you so worked up about anyway? Because I don’t see things as simple black or white, good or bad the way you would like me to…that seems to anger you. As an American(or human) am I not allowed to express myself the way I see fit on my own terms, why can’t you simply accept this?. That doesn’t make me an America hater-why would it? Are only your opinions valid? Is that what America is about to you? I think I was quite clear that both good and bad have come from the existence of America, but you are upset that I won’t emphatically state “It’s all been for the best in the last 100 years”. And if I don’t I am a “liberal”(is that bad or un-American?), Or a “cloaked America hater”. I shot a 78 today(golfing) so not even this silliness can aggravate me. And Scott I really enjoyed the Video interview with the two Brits! Lovely folks and hope I can drop in on them someday.(Thought I would throw that in here and not start a whole new thread.)
You are just baiting at this point, defending your ego or what you perceive to be who you are-an American. I will conclude you would make a good politician, NO where in anything I have written do I profess a “cloaked Hatred” for America, no where in anything I have written says America is all bad. Is the world a better pace because of the US? We could can say the same about China, Iran, Germany, Russia,Italy, Africa and on and on…have the people in these places made the world a better place? You made some reference about us speaking German and thank the US we are are not. You are wrong sir, the Russians were mostly responsible for defeating Germany that is not my opinion but a recognized historical truth, look it up. Your statement we are lucky we don’t speak German is even sillier, at what point would the Germans have launched an attack on the US, conquered us and forced us to to speak German? Would that have been after the Russian troops stormed Berlin and Hitler had taken his own life? You have written nothing that brings something new to the table, nothing to cause me to ponder or re-think a position, just a provocative statement that I am an America hater.Duh.
In my opinion your patriotism blinds you, for an alternative to what you have learned perhaps reading “The Peoples History of the United States” would provide another perspective. You are fixated on the USA’s involvement in WW 2. first off we became involved pretty late in the game and quite frankly the Russians had more to do with defeating the Germans than the US.

Again this is not about bashing the US it’s about a proper historical perspective, not a fanatical patriotic view that blinds us to the truth. No it’s not all bad…but it certainly ain’t all good and it’s not just America it’s the history of most “world powers”. I am only referring to government action here let’s not even get started on corporate America, the food industry, tobacco, big pharma oh yeah and the mortgage folks. I love Americans and the natural beauty of this great land, I love the ideas that Ben Franklin, Jefferson and Washington had….these day I see very little of what these gentleman had in mind.
And by the way Vietnam, Haiti,Iraq,Cambodia,Korea,Central & South American conflicts are not ancient history.You miss my point I am not judging just excepting the reality of things as they are.You make the silly assertion that the “good out weighs the bad”…I simply accept there is good and bad. Regarding history many have attempted to colonise big parts of the planet. The Romans, Mongolians, British, Ottoman empire etc etc…Oh and lets not forget the Russians-Stalin murdered over 10 million. You seem fixated on the Germans are the actions of Americans any less evil than what the Germans did? The wholesale slaughter of the entire indigenous population? The killing of over 6 million Africans? The killing of up to 2 million Vietnamese civilians,Iraqi civilians? By the way these countries did not attack us, regarding the 9/11 murderers they were Saudis.The world has been around for quite sometime the US only about 233 years, somehow I think it would survive without us, for better or worse I really don’t know I am not a fortune teller. Again I just try to accept things for what they are.

Starting with the murder of 95% of the original indigenous population, the enslavement/murder of 7-10 million African slaves, south American/central American wars, Haiti, the over throwing of a democratically elected president in Iran, replaced with the Shah, Vietnam “war”, Iraq war, dropping A-bombs on Japan..this is all collective madness and goes beyond simplifications of quantifying the actions as more good than bad. And yes we can write the same things about many other countries, I just don’t see the rational in saying history will judge as good? If a man was to kill all of your family, then had an epiphany that his ways were wrong and became a priest would you still judge him as more good than evil? Why is there this need to feel patriotic just because you were born in a particular georaphic area? If in our hearts we could see all the world as our home all other humans as our brothers and sisters that would be a good start. we are all simply manipulated by the governments that happen to rule during our life, our DNA is all the same, not american, african, german…Human.
