I really don’t know much about them, but have driven by a few of there sites and work was going on etc..That’s good news if what you say is true and all the infrastructure is complete. There was an older thread from a member on here who was having trouble because they were using his lot to store construction equipment, and I think CRHomebuilder toured the site for one of his clients and seemed to report all is well. That said there was also a report in the local papers they were shut down for environmental violations.

Lots of opinions on pre-fab search the threads. I would also be interested in hearing from anyone who has built pre fab in Costa Rica.

If you can live like a middle class Tico you’ll do alright, most north Americans can’t or don’t want to.

Also up to $400k you can find houses on or very near the beach in other locations such as Playa Hermosa(Jaco) or Esterillos. Both wonderful places close to San Jose(1.5 hrs.approx.), just 40 minutes to Manuel Antonio and a stones through to Jaco for all the services one could want.

Yes there is crime in Costa Rica. If you are visiting as a tourist take the same precautions you would in Jamaica or Mexico and you will be just fine. If you are are relocating here rent for six months to a year then decide if the area you settle in has more crime than you can handle. If you don’t want to tempt fate and are moving here buy in a high-rise condo or a secure gated community such as Del Pacifico or Cabas Calettas this is sort of like living at the four Seasons, I felt safe at the Four Seasons..no one stole our widows. If you have a house and live in a mixed community like David Murray or Maravilla make good friends with your neighbors and when you leave have a trusted person watch your property. Crime can happen it does everyday just about in every country, but it is a relative truth. I think we can agree living in a developing country like Costa Rica has many challenges and is a little different than retiring to Palm Beach, but that’s why I love it so much because it is so very different than the US. My own experiences in the country have been wonderful as a long term tourist, I have not one complaint…I accept I am in a foreign land and do my best to go with the flow.

love caipirinias and mojitos, but like anything else not everyone makes a good one! Try chewing coca leaves for the experience you are looking for.

Just don’t invest your hard earned money along with all the other suckers sinking billions into NYC real estate. I can assure you there is a major crime problem here, and if you don’t believe me ask a cop or read the papers.

What is the point of this? Yes crime crime is everywhere we are adults, most a bit traveled yes we know there is crime in Costa Rica!!!! I could post a 100 scary threads about crime in my city, NYC that would make your head spin, scare the hell out of you!!! Let me tell you first hand Jaco has actually gotten better! It was always an unsavory place but now they actually are fighting back, with the help of big development companies that want to protect there investment. Most of the crime in Jaco happens in the wee hours of the morning when the streets are quiet and men are trolling for hookers or people buying drugs. You are safe as anywhere in the daytime or prime-time evening as the place is pretty jammed. I did have a friend robbed at gun point in Jaco, but here’s the rest of the story; He is Argentine so speaks perfect Spanish met a girl in a club, later saw her on the street (3am) she said her friend could sell him some pot, he went pulls out a $100 dollar bill “friend” pulls out a gun, goodbye $100 dollars….oh yeah the banditos were NOT Ticos but from another Latin American country. Yes there is crime but stop making it sound like a war-zone because it is not, but it is a third world developing country, developing being the key word here. Will you crime mongers only be happy when sprite breaks down at your feet and admits the country is going to hell in a hand basket, crime is rampant and he trembles as he walks through the streets of Naranjo…sheesh! As for us we have no personal crime story to report in over 6 years of visiting Costa Rica, that said be careful because there is crime in Costa Rica….

I agree they would not. That said I just don’t believe who one chooses to “marry” is such a dig deal. Homosexuality has existed as long as we have, why make it into a taboo? But you are right most of these “religions” do. But then again most rational people would consider religion as a guide post to our wholeness, spirit- not an absolute truth or blueprint to the world at large. But a lot of us have been conditioned by religious thought whether we like it/acknowledge it or not. Will society breakdown, our children start engaging in lude sex acts because we respect the rights of others to be who they are and express there love for one another? I think mtv, video games and the massive exposure to violence on a daily basis is much more of a threat to all of us. Who one chooses to love…not. Anyway look at all the dysfunction in heterosexual unions and relationships, the gays certainly don’t have that market cornered!lol.

I have to agree with Maravilla on this one, the poverty rate in the US is quite deplorable especially for a country with so much abundance. I don’t mean this to sound rude but you seem to speak from the point of view of an affluent white north American. Sure I appreciate the US and many of it’s fine people and I am happy for the dumb luck I had to be born here in a favorable position. My position in life is pretty good but I know there are tens of millions here getting by hand to mouth, week to week, but for some reason we just don’t seem to think they’re there through our very very rose colored glasses. Because our roads are nice, the supermarkets well stocked, lots of shiny cars and cheerful commercials as good as we are is as bad as we are. To be clear I do appreciate all the opportunities I have been afforded but I think we can and should be doing much better. http://www.lowwagework.org/Shulman.htm

It’s been years and years since all this Paragon drama first started, is even one of there projects complete? I don’t mean housing as that is up to the lot owners, but the infrastructure; paved roads, water to each lot and electric to each lot?

Maravilla could you please add your perspective on crime and safety in Costa Rica based on your last stay. I don’t know what you might say but would be interested on your take of things.

Perhaps “inbreeding” would be a better word as you have brought this up in another one of your charming posts.

“I noticed that many of the people there look similar and on a sunday preachers wale in the morning breeze everywhere. But could you find out why many people look similar? Is there a prominent family there or what?”

I think this company has a pretty good product as far as the pre fab goes. Of course one would prefer ground up custom built, but I think this can be a good option if money is an issue. Looks as though this would be at least 40% less than a “built” home.
