    1) Soflo what the hell happened to you to cause all this extreme bitterness?

    2) Regarding “NYC” I have lived here since 1982, when money/developers come into an area yes the crime goes down. But there are many many parts of the city a young woman would definitely not feel safe late at night. And this includes parts of the West Village where rapes and late not robberies occur more than one might think. Forget about Washington Heights, Bushwick Brooklyn and many other locales in the city man nor woman would not want to be out late.

Every year I read these posts and get a little anxiety about my up coming trip. But every year I get down there and things are just fine…not perfect but fine. Definitely no worse (quite frankly better/safer) than on some of my travels through Italy, Greece, Germany, France etc…I have lived in NYC for the last 25 years and just like anywhere else some of it is safe and some down right scary and dangerous. I just had my car window smashed for the 2nd time this year to steal a broken down cd player and then some loose change. Sure Costa Rican crime will uptick with the development but I bet crime fighting will as well. Still sitting on my deck in Playa Hermosa/Jaco I feel pretty damn safe, if I got mugged in CR I would not write off the country no more than I bad mouth NYC just cause I’ve been ripped off here a few times…take it in stride Amiga’s and amigos..life is always beautiful but at times our little story/situation can be a bitch.

There was an article on this in the tico times a few months back apparently the idea of a fishing license is new. The Tico Times has pretty informative fishing writer, the new guy takes you through the somewhat funny process of applying for the license.

The Bible also regulates and approves of slavery (Leviticus) which includes such niceties as; setting certain slaves free after 10 years but keeping there wives and children if it pleases you. This is in the Bible(along with many other fun “facts” google leviticus and slavery)…and that is “fact”. The Bible is no better or worse than any other doctrine, if we are to evolve as a species we need to grow beyond doctrines that “choose people” and serve to divide us. So if we disavow slavery and say stoning one to death, then what we are saying is that the Bible may not be perfect…Regarding Israel I think Brad is just being himself as his criticisms of the US have been equally harsh. I don’t see this as anti-semitism as he does not appear to hate Jews for being Jews but has a strong dislike of the Israeli governments policy. He would not be alone on that, one could site many such criticisms from Noam Chompsky or Howard Zinn both “Jewish” scholars as well as many others. To simply dismiss anyone that critiques Israel as anti-semites is unfair.

These properties appear to be being developed/marketed by a couple in Grecia the guys name is Randy Berg. The best course of action would be to come and view the lots and if you like what you see have an attorney look into it. Of course according to there sight they are the best thing to happen to real estate in Costa Rica since sliced bread…I don’t know either way.

I don’t think the HGTV show works that way with “House Hunters” they really don’t mention the broker at all..

I’m with you Scott on the whole tv/entertainment biz. I don’t watch a lot of the stuff either but definitely more than you do, house hunters is a pretty harmless show though. It is just a condensed version of a broker going around with two buyers looking for a new home. They really don’t promote the brokers or there company’s I think a small mention thanking them in the credits. It can be entertaining if you have an interest in real estate, although it can also be a bit boring especially when they are searching for a ranch house in Texas (boy Texas real estate is cheap by the way!). It’s a bit more interesting when it is international and they are “hunting” for a home in Europe or south/central America. I have seen two shows shot in Costa Rica already. All in all pretty harmless viewing with mostly fluff commentary.

I think we should also focus on people like me who bought land with a long term view. Whenever you are buying and selling short term you are exposed to more risk. But from what I can tell many CR buyers are long term holders, bought all cash so very little financial strain going forward. Most importantly buy because you love Costa Rica and after spending some time there. Please don’t buy from an online ad and send $25k to hold a lot! It is not only dumb it hurts the rest of the market! Costa Rica has come of age, and just like all the Caribbean Islands that have long term stable markets Costa Rica Is there and it will only get better. There may be some initial growing pains but with all the big time players investing from St. Regis. Four Seasons, Steve Case to Walmart and on and on…there big dollar investments mean big time advertising campaigns to bring people in from around the world. Costa Rica is as beautiful as Hawaii with more flora and fauna, active volcanoes, much less expensive and a lot easier to get to. So if you are worried about short term market conditions and looking to make(or lose) a fast buck hit the casinos. If you want to invest in a growing wonderful part of our planet that has both good and bad aspects(good far out weighing bad imho) then call Scott and let him hook you up with a reputable person to help you out,or do it youself. This beautiful little country is on the radar screen in a big way here in NYC the subway cars are lined with tourist ads from airlines announcing new flights to San Jose and Liberia as well as adverts from the CR tourism ministry. 5 years ago no one here knew much about CR, now everyone does and many have been there and loved it! I really don’t know many that were buying just to flip, of course there are some. Lisle55 can you contact me off board to discuss some options regarding my lot, Scott has my email information.

Several years ago I paid $6M2(5200M2) for property in a gated community(since completed) just 6kms South of Jaco. Are you suggesting it is now worth approx. $3 dollars?

I agree with Philip. I am a big time golf enthusiast and was tempted by San Buenas but just have not seen enough happening and am not convinced the developer has the experience to pull this off. Of course that’s just my humble opinion and I wish them the best of luck completing there project!
