We have stayed in the central pacific in August and had great weather more or less. Cloud bursts late afternoon or sometimes rain at night. For the most part the mornings and afternoons were sunny. Check out Playa Hermosa/jaco or Esterillo it’s closer to the airport considering you will only be there for a week. http://www.casapuravida.com tell them Keith and Cheryl sent you…have fun!

I must say the articles were very interesting to read and give an academic point of view to this type of development. I get the feeling that Mr. Spikowski would also not approve of the hi rise planning going on in Jaco either or for that matter any number of projects being built there. As an individual involved in real estate I have witnessed many academics abhor much modern day planning and I can’t say I disagree with them. However many Americans in need of affordable housing turn to these type of developments, wonder what he has to say about Levittown? When I googled Lehigh Florida I also found many sites talking about the wonderful community that awaits all and all the lovely new homes. I have many working class friends who have bought in developments like this in the Poconos and love it, the man made lake stocked with bass, golf course, parks etc…not really my cup of tea. My point is just to see a balanced and accurate picture and present another view.

    Mr. Gale,
I have been willing to give you the benefit of the doubt as since all the Paragon postings have started you have made progress in your projects. I think though you should look into some of the stories about some of your sales people being a little loose with the facts, you have not addressed this issue. I think this more than anything else is whats bothering people. I have not always agreed with Scott, but have come to realize the point of the forum is to exchange ideas, not insult one another. You are an American developer cutting up very large tracts of land and marketing them very aggressively of course this will rub a lot of folks the wrong way. I have to say since the first Paragon post you have proven a bunch of folks wrong who thought you would never get a road in or title and individual lot.

I am also curious as to why more homes have not been built, I understand Paragon is just selling lots but why have more people not built yet? Perhaps most are looking long term and have not paid off there lot yet, it seems you can not build until you close. Maybe that $25k down and balance not due for 5 years sucked in a lot of people who are hoping to “flip” or sub divide the land at a later date…It seems with this financing formula you will attract more specultors than people just looking to build a second home.

    Jenny,
You’re right a lot of people want to come to the united states because of the dream they see on television. And for some they can make a great life here if they can grab hold of some of that money flying by! However a lot of them find life here very difficult because of the reality that waits for them. Housing for one is extremely expensive for someone earning $7 dollars an hour, no health care, transportation etc…Here in NYC I have spoken with many a disgruntled cabby who works 6 days a week to get by and life is not so sweet. Yes for the poorest of the poor coming from Guatemala, Mexico etc…working in a factory, restaurant etc is better than what they had(maybe) but look under the surface and they are living 6 to a room in squalor. It is a bit ironic that we are two peoples searching for the good life passing each other at the border…Capitalism dangles a carrot in front of you and tells you work hard and you will get the prize…but most spend a lifetime chasing that carrot and sometimes even after grabbing it find it wasn’t all that was cracked up to be. Find peace within yourself and that will be an end to suffering and just maybe you will be happy with what you have, or at least be in a better position to go after what you truly desire.

Parrita is a small Tico city with a lot of real Costa Rica flavor so to speak. It is about a 45 minutes South of Jaco and 20 Minutes north of Manuel Antonio. The ocean currents are quite strong on most of central Pacific beaches, there are a few exceptions. Only strong swimmers that are familiar with rip tides and the ocean should swim. There are no life guards to pull you out if you get in trouble. If you do get caught in a rip, let it whisk you out, try not to panic. Once in deeper water it will let you go and you can swim parallel to the beach and out of its grip and swim back in. Most people drown in these currents because they panic(it is very frightening) and expend all there energy. If you are going to swim in the ocean I strongly suggest you google rip currents(tides) and read about them so you can be prepared.

That is a beautiful drive we went from Nosara (actually had a house in Playa Guiones) to Mal Pais. We also did Nosara to Tamarrindo(not the highway!) , I think it’s called the Congo Trail, wild and we were in a mini suzuki 4×4. This is just a rutted trail over the mountains, the roughfest road I’ve been on in Costa Rica. With a bigger truck it may not have been as difficult.

If you don’t get stuck behind a truck crossing the mountains you can easily make the trip (SJ/Jaco) in 1 1/2 hours, not really a big deal. And it is quite a beautiful ride, but for those who get car sick..well that’s another story. If the government had the funds and technology maybe it would be cool if they just blasted through the mountains like in the alps. But from an environmental aspect this may not be so nice for the peaceful mountains! Don’t worry about the new highway to Jaco, that money would be better spent elsewhere.

Not much to know about Ostional, I visited it a few times when we were in Nosara for about a month. Nosara is a beautiful place a bit pricey and interesting mix of Europeans (great restaurants), Ticos and surfers. Very good surf but still my favorite break is Playa Hermosa(Jaco).
