I have been reading letters like KOTY’s for as long as I have been going to Costa Rica which is about 8 years. There is no doubt that Costa Rica has both petty and violent crime, I just don’t think it is anywhere near out of control. I have roots in a town near Jaco and I know of people who have been robbed, one at gun point, but he was trying to buy some drugs in Jaco at 2am. The majority of people I know there both Tico and Gringo are good solid folks, because just like here in NYC that is who I choose to associate with. Violent crime is rampant in the US along with drug and alcohol abuse, domestic violence, murder, robbery, rape etc…I could list many horrible in-humane crimes that I have heard or read about as well. Just because you may live in a town where you feel safe, I can assure you crime of all sorts are taking place not far from you. I am not trying to say that CR is Eden, but it is no worse or better than many other places on earth. In eight years I had one tire slash incident and just kept driving. Could something terrible happen to me or my family sure, but i wont write off the whole country as going to hell because of it. An ex girlfriend was raped on the beach in Malibu right in front of Dick Clarks estate, it was a tragedy. Who would have thought she could not walk along the beach in front of our home at 5pm on one of the most expensive beach communities in the world?

Maybe because Paragon was a blatant scam?
Sonesta is on the forum, but no one has commented on it recently. You have to search for it.

I think Scott answered that and I would agree. No one would adhere to it. Remember that most of the threads don’t start out about one of these “taboo” topics they evolve into them. Say we start talking about raising chickens in Guanacaste, before you know it we are talking about the oppressive farm policies of big Agra which will lead us directly to Obama, Queen Elizabeth and then Bill Gale peeing himself.:D

This same trajectory occurs on RE forums here in NYC as well.
when you receive a PM in your personal email box can you just reply to that email? Or do you need to go to the thread and PM the person who asked you a question from there?

    Gracias
Well I would like to apologize to those others who pm’ed me, I wrongly replied to the email notification I received. But it appears you have to go back to WLCR.com and PM that person back from there.

David I did respond to the message you sent me by hitting “reply” to the email, I don’t think you received anything from me. No problemo, now I know! (a WLCR admin did email me to answer my question as well, thanks!)
There is a couple of separate posts if you search for it, regarding the thoughts of some of us on the pro’s and con’s of prefabricated homes.
There are some recent ones, we really exhausted this subject 😀

I have met this owner and although I am not a horse person, I really admired her love for them. She has been a horse person most of her life and probably a good resource for you.

I second what David said. I know this area well(own land in Playa Hermosa/Jaco), there is plenty of land available at this time. I would use one of the recommended realtors to help me if I was looking and was not very familiar with the area. There are a number of projects that are in trouble in the area(not saying Las Olas is, I don’t know) with SETENA etc..
Lisle in Jaco seems pretty solid

If you have a BB with T-Mobile the device has wi-fi which can be used for data/voice. Switch off the radio receiver and use wifi to make calls and receive data with no charge. Of course you must be somewhere that has a wifi signal like a hotel, home or internet cafe. I have been doing it for years.

I know of two friends (Ticos) that have IPhones and I know they work and I am sure they use ICE. I would call ICE and ask for an explanation of rates/plans for phone and data for a BB. If you by one in the US, just make sure it is unlocked.

Legalize drugs already. Just like when they repealed prohibition and the killing stopped. Follow the money and then cut it off.

I have done some research on this, the prefab will only save you about 10%. The price you will see quoted are for walls only. Then you need to contract out with a builder to finish the house as you wish. What you save is also time as the walls for a 900F2 house could be up in about 10 days.

Like anything you do you will need a good team to complete your project. There is a lengthy thread here with links to some of the companies offering prefab packages. If you can get through all the people bemoaning:wink: this type of construction; there is some useful information.

I have only seen two live snakes while in CR. One was quite large, bright green crossing the road in Nosara. The other was a very thin snake, tan thin head in my surf board rack.
So if one was bitten by a fdl/viper what is the protocol in CR? Just go straight to a medical facility? Do most have anti venom?
